Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Jetta models get an updated look, optional telematics and a new and more powerful 1.9-liter TDI engine (GL and GLS models only). The 2.0-liter engine is now PZEV-rated, and the GLX trim is no longer available. Also note that you can no longer get the 1.8T engine in GL trim. Besides that, the GLI sedan sports new 17-inch alloy wheels and the Cold Weather Package items (heated seats and washer nozzles) as standard, while the GLS features a standard Monsoon stereo. The wagons get a revised instrument cluster late in the model year, and the sedans get new metallic trim rings around the gauges.
- Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, solid build quality.
- More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom, weak base four-cylinder.

BEATS THE TOYOTA PRIUS HANDS DOWN - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By STARWARS TDI - March 24 - 10:00 amAFTER FINDING OUT THE REPLACEMENT HYBIRD BATTERY FOR THE PRIUS WAS $2900 NOT INCL TAX AND INSTALLATION, I CHECKED ONT THE HONDA CIVIC (JUNK) AND THE VW JETTA TDI. THE TDI GETS BETTER ACTUAL MILEAGE THAN THE PRIUS ON A CROSS COUNTRY RUN ACCORDING TO CONSUMER REPORT. MUCH ROOMER THAN THE HONDA AND SOUNDS SOLID. AIR BAGS WERE AN EXPENSIVE OPTION WITH PRIUS! ALOT QUITER AND SMOTHER THAN MY FIRST DIESEL RABBIT IN 78. QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP FAR EXCEED TOYOTA AND HONDA! GETTING 45.8 MPG MIXTURE OF CITY AND INTERSTATE DRIVING. DEALER WAS ABLE TO GET LAST GLS IN FLA FOR ME WITHIN 1 WEEK!

Great car for the money - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mike33444 - February 15 - 10:00 amGreat gas mileage - 36 city and 48 highway. Comfy, yet not overdone with luxury items. All of the features you need in a wagon at a great price. New engine gives 100 HP and does make it move - for a diesel. Compared it to others - Suburu, Volvo, Audi - and they dont come close to value and price.

Jetta #6 - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Steve - January 13 - 5:53 pmJust traded in my 02 Jetta for an 04 leftover...first with 1.8T 5-speed. What a difference in performance! Having seen the new design that came out last week, I decided that I wanted another of the current design, which is far superior in looks. While Jettas have had some reliability issues, there is no car on the market that offers so much for so little and is so fun to drive. If you are in the market for a car and can find an 04 leftover turbo, grab it...it was the last year for this engine.

Fun to drive, great interior. - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By sims158 - January 7 - 2:00 amI should mention that the reliability rating is only based a months worth of driving. I love the interior of this car and the feel of the car when driving. Its actually fun to drive in the snow, and the ABS is most useful. The sound system is great, I just wish it had a little more leg room in the back. Owell, Ill always have all the room I want. A good choice for any one thats looking for quality, comfort, and safety.

awesome car to drive - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By njjettalover - January 3 - 10:00 amthis is my first car here as well my first VW. I got a great deal and with all the fully loaded features the cost was less than Civic EX / Corolla S (i know that there are lot of red faces now that i have compared jetta to civic / corolla). The car is excellent to handle especially during curves / ramps (you can easily push the car to 15 mph more than the specified speed at ramps). Transmission is a bit rough in the first 8000 miles but then it really loosens up. Reverse gear is initially the most unco-operating part!

Just bought one - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Winnie - November 26 - 2:00 amIm very surprised on how much stuff that comes as standard package on Jetta GL 2.0L automatic. The only options I added were the ESP and automatic transmission. I think 2.0L engine is good enough for everyday use. It handles smoothly in city traffic, hills, and freeway. No need the turbo unless you like street racing and have extra money to spend on gasoline. I only put the comfort on 9 because I just bought it a week ago. I think the suspension is still a little stiff.

So far so good! - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By aj - November 18 - 10:06 pmI just got my Jetta recently and so far things are great! The only thing I wonder about is whether the sort of clicking sound as I accelerate is normal.... It isnt a bad sound necessarily, but I notice it. The interior is wonderful except for the non-existant center console. Otherwise, I love it!!! : )
