Overview & Reviews
For 2004, all Jetta models get an updated look, optional telematics and a new and more powerful 1.9-liter TDI engine (GL and GLS models only). The 2.0-liter engine is now PZEV-rated, and the GLX trim is no longer available. Also note that you can no longer get the 1.8T engine in GL trim. Besides that, the GLI sedan sports new 17-inch alloy wheels and the Cold Weather Package items (heated seats and washer nozzles) as standard, while the GLS features a standard Monsoon stereo. The wagons get a revised instrument cluster late in the model year, and the sedans get new metallic trim rings around the gauges.
- Powerful 1.8T and VR6 engines, fuel-efficient TDI power plant, fun to drive, comfortable ride, rich interior materials, loads of standard safety features, solid build quality.
- More expensive than most small sedans and wagons, tight rear-seat legroom, weak base four-cylinder.

Nice little car - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By dizakaz - November 15 - 10:00 amThis car is fun. I have owned approx. 12 cars and this one rates in the top 5. The only thing I dont like is that the low end power is non existant. But it cruses great. The only other thing is that this car could be a two seater, no room in the rear.

Great Compromise - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By DriverTDI - October 9 - 10:00 amMY Jetta TDI is a great great automobile. I average 47mpg with combination driving (75 city/25 hwy), it doesnt take off like a 3.5 Altima..but then again an Altima (no matter what engine) cant get 50mpg...ever. It can, however, get out into traffic with no problems...was pleasantly surprised at its ability to go from a stop. It is loads more comfortable than the Corolla I traded in on it, which is important when travelling more than 2 hours at a time. The has great build quality, and is surprisingly quiet on the road too.

I LOVE my Jetta!!!! - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By RaceGirl - August 28 - 10:00 amSo far my experiece with this car has been awesome! I come from driving a 02 Saturn, which did not give me the value in return for the care put into it. The Jetta gives the features I want and all the power I could want. Once I start driving I dont feel like getting out. The drive on it almost feels like a V6 even though its not, the drivers side is very roomy and provides plenty of comfort. Overall, from the day I walked onto the VW lot until now I have had nothing short than a great experience!!

Jetta TDI Wagon - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By tom21769 - August 21 - 10:00 amThis car approaches the safety of a Volvo (with head curtain airbags, good crash test results, and available ESP). It approaches the performance of an Audi (with its sporty handling and diesel torque). When you factor in fuel expenses, it approaches the economy of a Honda or Toyota. Now, if VW could only promise Honda or Toyota reliability, theyd have an unbeatable combination. Its a little small for a family, but wonderful as a second car for solo commuting.

Nice way to enter the driving world :) - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By VWfan93 - July 5 - 7:53 pmIm a sixteen year old, and recently got my Volkswagen jetta, tdi, wolfsberg edition. This car is soooo Nice, I love it. The handling, the power, the diesel, the seats, everything! You name it my car, has it. I have loved this cars sense they came out and Im so glad I got one. Sure, it has its down falls. One being when I slow down the steering gets harder. But, as I go faster its sooo easy, which is better :). I love the diesel engine getting about 45-50, Im pretty happy. I could not ask for a better car, cant wait for 200k :)

Great car to own/drive - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Mike - June 19 - 11:23 pmThe TDI wagon has been a great car - few problem, great mileage, comfortable, and it can carry all of the things you need. I installed a tow hitch on mine to drag a GTX 4TEC Sea Doo and it has no problems getting it out of the water. We do get some funny looks as the PWC is almost as big as the car. Our golden retriever has not offered any complaints about riding in it. It performs well for a diesel - no sluggishness from this car. You step on the gas and go!

VW Jetta GLS 2.0 5 Speed - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By Dean B - May 28 - 10:00 amI love my Jetta. No gripes so far, its fun to drive, good fuel economy. The only problem is that fluff or dust easily get into the speedometer console and its hard to get that out.

3rd VW, 2nd Jetta - 2004 Volkswagen Jetta
By qbert - March 16 - 9:06 amI bought this 2004 model to replace my 1994 Jetta. Ive decided to keep the 94 too since it only has 290,000 miles on it. The 2004 is a better car, it rides nice, accelerates well and I figure it will make 300,000 miles as well.
