  • A reliable, high-quality car - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

This is the first Volkswagen I have owned, and I am an very impressed with the overall quality of the car. I spend a lot of time on the freeway each week. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the engine power is more than adequate for passing at normal freeway speeds. Also, I am very impressed with the Monsoon stereo system. The seat and dash materials are all very nice and seem to be of high quality. I have had no problems with this car. As far as the fuel economy goes, I average about 35 mpg all the time, and I dont really try to go slowly or not accelerate too quickly. My previous car was a Ford F-150 that got 15 mpg on a good day, so 35 mpg seems great to me.

  • A car to park outside... - 2005 Volkswagen Golf
    By -

I have had my Golf for over a month now and am impressed. It is a very fun to drive, it handles extremely well, especially on curves. Its interior build quality is impressive. It has excellent paint and exterior finish. The car feels very solid, and tight at all speeds. The manual transmission takes time to get used to. It is very effortless, but very slick. My second choice was a Honda Civic. How did I decide? A naive young boy once asked, "Should I buy a Civic or a Golf?" And the response was simple...buy the Golf if you want to park it outside, buy the Civic if youre going to garage it. This is a unique car.

  • Performance Without the Guilt - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

After owning my Golf for three months, all I can say is "wow." The Golf TDI is deceptively powerful for only having 100 bhp. I can climb I-70 mountain passes in 5th gear all the way from Denver to Glenwood Springs without shifting. It is incredibly fun to drive and it handles very well. The GLS model is definitely one to hold out for, heated seats are a must for Diesel engines (that warm up slowly) in cool weather. The ESP Traction Control system is very, very good at keeping the car pointed where you intend. The Monsoon sound system is one of the best balanced sound sytems Ive heard in a car.

  • Nifty GTI - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

I find the GTI to be a thrilling drive and well built. The only thing that I think it lacks is style inside.

  • Excllent Buy - 2005 Volkswagen Golf
    By -

I purchased the diesel since I do alot of mid distance driving. The performance is fine with amazing low RPM torque. Highway performance is first class and the fuel efficiency is even better than advertised. This was an excellent choice and was well worth the slightly higher sticker price. I saved that in the first few months on fuel.

This car is an awesome car. it is very good to drive around. I would recommend it for college students who do not have a lot of gas money. It is also very easy to find a parking space for this car due to its size.

  • Buying My Second Gold TDI - 2005 Volkswagen Golf
    By -

Weve been a one car family for over six years (2003 TDI Golf) and are about to purchase our second car. Were buying another VW TDI Golf. Why? We couldnt find a better, more efficient car period - let alone for the price. It feels like a safe car - not tinny like the Hondas and Toyotas Ive driven in the past. His and hers TDI Golfs. Need I say more?

"Thats a diesel?" You get that a lot at the gas stations, as well as attendants shutting the pump off on you to helpfully "save" your car. Youd be hard pressed to know its a diesel, as well. Sure, from the outside its definitely louder at idle (up to about 1600rpm its got that diesel clatter), and theres no smoke or fumes from the engine, either. On the coldest days, it needed no more than 15 seconds for the glowplugs to do their job, and itll start right up. The HP is low, but dont let this deter you. You wont notice with the torquey engine and gearing ratios. The Tiptronic feature of the auto 5spd isnt exciting, shift lag is high. On the other hand, itll let you hold a gear for climbing, etc

  • Been a Year of Highs - 2005 Volkswagen Golf
    By -

After owning the car just over a year I could never imagine driving anything else. The best milage Ive gotten is 53 mpg and the worst is 45 mpg. This is not bad for a car with an EPA rating of 38/42. The car has been great on trips and as a daily driver. Ive used the cargo space to help move friends. This has been the most versatile car Ive ever owned. The torque lets me cruise for miles and go over passes in top gear, or squirt up to the speed limit around town with ease. Ive rarely ever felt that I needed more that what the little diesel offers.
