  • Best Fuel Economy - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

All in all this has been the best purchase weve ever made. Its only been a couple of weeks & I havent filled up the tank yet! this is an incredible car, and fun to drive. We would recommend this vehicle to anyone wanting to skip the high price gas lines. If the extra room is what you need, look into the diesel Jetta!

Coming from England to US, I have driven many cars. The GOLF TDI is a popular car in a market where a very large percentage are diesel due to the price of gas. The golf is very well built, solid and offers many air bags. The handling and styling of the car is excellent - golf owners appreciate their reliable, frugal workhorse and once bitten rarely stop becoming VW owners. The quality of the build is excellent and as is the Monsoon sound system. My primary reason for buying was to get a safe, well-built, reliable, quality car which offered good gas mileage. I get around 40 mpg which is excellent - my only regret is not looking at a passat TDI - rear legroom space is limited.

Ive had this car for 6 months and love it. It rides like a German sedan. The base engine has plenty of power at sea level and pulls smoothly if you learn the power curve. People at higher altitudues that climb hills and need more passing power should opt for the 1.8T engine. I am getting about 330-400 miles per tank. The best Ive averaged on a tank is about 27.5 MPG (30 MPG on the highway is possible if you didnt go over 65/70 MPH). Also, the interior is very nice for such an inexpensive car. The A/C is cold/strong. The stereo is better than expected. It fits four. This car isnt for the pocket rocket crowd. It is a better fit for the urban dweller or person who wants an inexpensive car that doesnt feel cheap.

This is one of the most solid autos Ive had in a long time. It is much more solid and quiet than my old Honda Civic, although the Honda was a very good car. The VW seems better. I also tried out a Toyota. It was very noisy and tinny sounding inside.

  • Good for the long haul. - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

I drive about 115 miles round trip to work. All I have ever done is change the oil (about every 12-15k miles), replace a couple head lights, and change the tires. My car has yet to need brakes or any major repair. The perfect stylish, fun to drive, daily commuter!

  • Love this car! - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

I bought my 2005 Golf TDI brand new in February 2005. I love the fuel mileage - average of 46-48 mpg and I dont visit the gas station very often. It is a really fun car to drive with what feels like lots of power due to the torque. It is, however, expensive to maintain and not always easy to find a good local VW mechanic. VW dealer service always seems to be sub par (I have been to 3 different dealers for service). I still would not give up my car because I do love driving it!

  • My TDI Review - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

The Gold GLS TDI is everything I wanted and more. This vehicles diesel engine is the quietest and smoothest I have ever driven. It has hardly any smoke under normal driving conditions and it is unbelievably responsive. My best mileage on the interstate was 56.8 mpg and least around town is 39 to 41 plus. VW has done nothing but improve their engine design. My daughter and son in law also drive one and they benefit even more than me due to long distance driving that they experience with my "hockey playing" grandson. The ample head and leg room and comfortable ride were important attributes to me as I compared the car with others in same catagory. The fact that the VW diesel had been around for many years influenced my decision tremendously!

  • Best Car I have ever owned - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

The Golf TDI is the car of my dreams, since I first saw the Rabbit diesel in 1976. It is very comfortable, handles excellently, and gives great fuel economy (48 mpg average). I drive 152 miles a day to work on a variety of roads and it never fails to satisfy. VW quality is evident in every part of the car. I wish I would have purchased one earlier. I have driven this car 22,000 miles in nine months.

  • Good Stuff - 2005 Volkswagen Golf

I bought my 2005 Volkswagen Golf GL about two months ago and it has been really great. I picked it up new for just a couple hundred dollars over invoice. Its a blast to drive and it feels good to be spending so little on gas.

  • A Strange Love Affair - 2005 Volkswagen Golf
    By -

While this is perhaps the smallest and least powerful car I have owned since my days as a Triumph driving bachelor in the very early sixties, it is without a doubt the one car I have truly loved. Its stupid to love a car, but there it is. Of course this love does not detract from the love of family or country or home town, but dont anybody ask for my keys. This is MY agile little baby and like Silver and the Lone Ranger nobody drives it but me; my black beauty is a one-rider horse. So this is a fine man/machine love affair, a strange love affair more intense than all the affairs Ive had with high-cost high-powered babes...cheap, too, like a good tart.
