This Year's Model Updates:

For the old 1.8T GTI, the VR6 style has been dropped and more features, including 17-inch wheels and stability control, are now standard. Starting in the late spring of 2006, the 1.8T Volkswagen GTI will be slowly phased out in favor of a fully redesigned model. As before, this performance hatchback will be based on the upcoming next-generation Golf. Highlights for the new GTI include increased performance, new styling and more interior room.

Pros:
  • Hatchback utility, upscale features and interior design, strong engine and automated manual gearbox of redesigned GTI.
Cons:
  • Higher price than those of its competitors, old GTI lacks oomph.

  • Just too much fun! - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

My son and I just bought a pair of matching GTIs. I cant tell you how impressed we are! They are very fast, comfortable, economical and just plain fun! A word of caution to all who are contemplating getting the ground effects kit. I had mine installed yesterday and found that the factory black side skirts are epoxied on! When they removed them some paint came with it! After a minor paint and buff on the glue areas its perfect. I wish I could post a picture because the improvement in looks is well worth it! The original black trim is too "Golf" looking to me. The DSG is simply amazing and the handling and brakes are superb. I would highly recommend this car to anyone....period.

I just bought a new 2006 Volkswagen GTI. I came from a 2001 Audi TT. This car is very spacious, has quick exceleration, and comfy seats.

Even though Ive only had it for 3 weeks, its an absolute blast to drive! Now I understand V-Dubs "drivers wanted" tag-line. My wife bought a 2005 MkIV in 2/06 and that turned me on to the GTI. The car is perfect and fast as heck. Im 54 yrs. old and have had Cadillacs, an Olds Aurora, Mazda6 (good car) but the GTI is the fastest, best handling car so far. Period.

I ordered this GTI with all the options, 18 inch wheels and factory navigation. It is a perfect car. It has plenty of power, build quality and the user interface with the navigation is incredible. The DSG transmision is superb, you can use the paddle shifters or you can let it shift by itself. Either way is just as fun.

I traded in a 2001 Ford F-150 Lightning for my Volkswagen GTI and I dont miss it at all. This is the best deal I have ever made.

  • Most Fun for the Money - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

I love this car! I had a 2002 GTI that was totaled and have anxiously been awaiting the arrival of the MKV. This car leaves nothing to be desired. It has breath-taking acceleration, impeccable design and build quality, as well as looks. It handles well, rides well, and performs well in every regard. Not to mention, starting at $21,000, its a steal.

  • Wow, this is a Fun Car! - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

I moved from a Mark IV Jetta to this car. I really liked the Jettas combination of high quality feeling and good looking interior with an appealing exterior. The new GTI takes all of the things I liked about the Jetta and moves them up a few notches. I opted to get package 2 which includes many great options like heated, leather, sport seats, a great sunroof, 6-disk CD changer, and much more. I like the overall feel of this car better than anything. The interior is better than many cars costing substantially more. It just seems like it was designed with all the things I want, the way I want them. Great Car!

  • Lots of Fun - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

I just traded in my 02 Passat GLS for a GTI, and oh man, is this bad boy fun to drive. The gear box seems a bit smaller than the Passat, so shifiting is a quicker. The car just boogies right from the get go. I can feel the power. It has lots of room up front, and doesnt feel as small as you would think looking at the outside of it. Its seats are nice and comfy. I dont think that Id have a problem driving for long distances. I cant wait to get off work and drive some more.

  • GTi Heaven - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

What a superb car! I have owned seven VWs and this one is the best ever! It delivers tremendous performance and handling. There is nothing out there that compares, especially at this price. Plus, VW only plans to sell 15,000 GTIs a year, so, it is a somewhat exclusive car as well. I smile every time I drive it and the deal with my dealer. Mine is a Black Package two car with leather and the 18" wheels - what a car!

  • Another GREAT GTI - 2006 Volkswagen GTI

Having owned/bought 19 new cars, and being many different brands, the last 3 were GTIs (1995 VR6, 1999.5 VR6, and 2006.5) and for a good reason. Not much compares with the GTIs as far as being true "drivers cars" and when condidering the price of Audi, BMW, & Mercedes, nothing compares. The new GTI is another great evolution over the last. I thought I could never go without the VR6, but the new 2.0 proved me wrong; it has more / great power & torque, better gas mileage & a cool exhaust note. Im getting 29+ mpg (combined 85+mph California freeways & stop & go). The stereo sounds great and the leather/Top Sport Seats are the most comfortable seats Ive ever sat in.
