This Year's Model Updates:

The base engine is now a 245-hp, 4.0-liter V6 that uses either a six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic. The optional 4.7-liter V8 now makes 282 hp and is coupled with a standard five-speed automatic transmission. Two-wheel-drive regular cabs are now available with a V8 engine, while four-wheel-drive Access Cabs can no longer be equipped with a V6. Regular cabs equipped with the V8 get a color-keyed grille and chrome front bumper, as well as vinyl flooring and a cloth bench seat. Two new alloy wheel designs are available on Access Cab and Double Cab models, and all Tundras get new headlamps and rear combination lamps. Inside, new gauges and an available navigation system with JBL audio spruce things up a bit. In addition, Double Cabs can now get a 60/40-split bench front seat for true six-passenger seating. Front side-impact airbags and full-length head curtain airbags are now available on Double Cabs.

Pros:
  • Smooth and refined V8, Toyota build quality and reliability, nimble off-road, most carlike of the full-size trucks.
Cons:
  • Lacks serious brawn for towing and hauling, narrow cabin, chintzy interior materials.

  • Tundra 4wd double Cab - 2005 Toyota Tundra

American Truck makers had better beware, after looking over all available options in trucks the choice was clear. The only option I have added to this truck is a Rhino Liner. Impressive performance, easy to drive, my wife enjoys driving it. As an American I would like to buy American, but the cars and trucks we produce just dont hold up to what the Japanese offer

  • 55,000 miles and going! - 2005 Toyota Tundra

I bought this truck in 2008 with 50,000 miles on it with faith in Toyotas reputation in longevity. So far no maintenance problems, just a battery replacement. The ride is comfortable with the TRD package, including at high speeds, and I love the full sliding rear window. The 4WD works great in snow with rare instances in which the 4WD does not engage immediately. The dashboard around the stereo and glove box squeaks irritatingly on bumps/rough roads, especially when cold. Overall a great vehicle and I plan on keeping it until it runs into the ground!

So far I havent had any problems with it. It has tons of power for passing and it accelerates good for a truck. Beat out BMWs. Very comfortable for a truck, only thing I gotta get used to is the bounce in the back when going over speed bumps or pot holes.

  • Love my tundra more every time I drive. - 2005 Toyota Tundra

While it may be a little shy on total horsepower, compared to others, it has plenty for me and the boat I tow. The ride is unbelievable, and I would rather drive it than the car. I cant say enough good things about this truck. It is the best half ton truck out on the market right now. My work allows me to drive new trucks, like Chevy and Ford, but the Tundra is by far a better truck.

  • Tundra is the way to go... - 2005 Toyota Tundra

Just purchased an 05 SR5 Double Cab and love it. I was debating between the double cab 05 Tacoma and the 05 Tundra and decided that the ride quality in the Tundra was too good to leave behind. The Tacoma still seemed bouncy relative to my 02 Access Cab Tundra. The interior on the 05 Tacoma was impressive but considering the extended wheelbase, I would have expected a better, less bouncy ride. All in all theyre both amazing trucks. After owning 5 Toyotas in the last 10 years without a single problem to report, you simply cannot beat Toyota reliability. If you dont need to tow something heavy, I wouldnt even bother with the "big 3".

I have been a fan of Toyota reliability for many years. The 2005 Tundra double cab that I recently purchased is an awesome vehicle. Roomy cabin, great lines and with performance to boot. I would reccomended it over the Titan anyday.

  • Best full-size truck ever!!!! - 2005 Toyota Tundra

Words can not convey how much I love my Tundra. It is by far the best full- size pickup on the road today. Sure it cant two a house but thats not a requirement of mine. For my use, its perfect. Extremely comfortable, gets good mpg for a truck (avg 16.5 in city/hwy mix) and seats 5-6 very comfortably. Its absolutely the best. I test drove every full-size truck on the market and the Tundra bested them all when you look at everything youre getting.

I just traded up from a 2003 F-150 Lariat. This is my 1st Toyota and I love it. I found the interior to be a little less then what I anticipated. I thought my F-150 had a better interior pkg. But, where the interior lacks - the horsepower makes up for. It has such a smooth ride also. Best truck i ever had.

  • Reliable, reliable, reliable. And comfy. - 2005 Toyota Tundra

The best vehicle Ive ever owned. Smooth, powerful, comfortable, and above all else, RELIABLE. Quietest cab Ive ever ridden in. Ive got 114,00 miles on this 8 year-old truck, some of which have been very hard miles. Like 2 yards of concrete in the bed kind of hard. (Ive got air springs in the back, increasing payload and improving handling). Theres not even a rattle in the cab after 8 years. Tight as a drum. This thing has never needed anything more than standard maintenance. Ford, GM, and Dodge can say they have the better rig, but read the comments on those used trucks on this very website. You wont want anything but a Tundra when you do. Unless youre a dumb redneck.
