This Year's Model Updates:

The Toyota Sienna receives more standard equipment for 2006. Most importantly, the formerly optional front side-impact airbags and three-row head-protecting side curtain airbags are standard on all Siennas this year. Other changes include new seat fabric for the CE and LE trims and Optitron gauges for LE, XLE and XLE Limited models. The XLE also has dual power front seats this year, and the XLE Limited gains driver-seat memory. There's also a new power-folding rear seat option on XLE Limited 2WD models. In addition, all Siennas receive a new grille, headlamps, foglamps and taillamp clusters. Finally, revised SAE testing procedures have dropped the van's stated horsepower rating from 230 to 215.

Pros:
  • Smooth ride, refined V6, packed with safety and convenience features, seven- and eight-passenger seating configurations, above-average fuel economy, available all-wheel drive.
Cons:
  • A bit too much lean in the corners, seat comfort and noise isolation could be better, expensive option packages.

  • Back Again - 2006 Toyota Sienna

This is my second review. Bought it new Nov 2006. Currently have 17000 miles on it. This is my third Toyota. A little disappointed with build quality: had to replace the wiper motor within 2-3 months (making horrible noise), will have to replace the motor near the passenger side blower vent (makes noise at lower speed). Otherwise satisfied with the car. Can get around 23.5 mpg in combined hwy/city, if I drive <= 65 mph. With the fuel cost where they are, I usually try to maximize mpg. I have noticed a deadspace when the transmission shifts from one gear to the other (seems like from second to third), which is kind of weird. Overall though, I am satisfied.

Not one problem except the crappy Dunlop tires it came with.

  • Always carry jumper cables - 2006 Toyota Sienna

Excellent vehicle overall and would highly recommend except for the battery. Ive lost track how many times weve had to jump start it for the most minor or unknown reasons; e.g. just using the cd player for an hour while waiting in line for a ferry or leaving the rear hatch door not completely engaged (easy to do) will result in a no start in just a couple days. Ive never owned a car this sensitive to battery discharge.

  • Sienna transmission problem - 2006 Toyota Sienna

2 major problems within 1600 miles: A. Side airbag defect due to exposed wires. Driver seat had to be replaced B. Transmission failed while merging on the freeway - almost got rear-ended. Was very lucky to survive. Dont buy into Toyotas hype. This is my last toyota!

  • Sienna opinion - 2006 Toyota Sienna
    By -

Drove the Sienna from Indiana to S.Carolina. Ride is excellent. Mileage was not as good as expected (21 mpg on road). Seems to be underpowered (shifted a lot going up even small hills). A lot more engine noise than expected. All in all reasonably satisfied.

  • So far so good - 2006 Toyota Sienna

We bought this a week back. Only have 300 miles in it. It drives well, although the road noise is pronounced (not what I would have expected from Toyota). The instrument panel is well laid out. However, I have not yet mastered all the buttons. Did not buy AWD based on negative run-flat tire reviews. We got 17.5 mpg (60% highway) so far. We have a 3 yr old, so she does not use the wireless headphone, so all of us have to listen to her DVDs (have not yet figured out how to mute the front speakers). We have two camrys (10 & 12 yrs old) and this is our third toyota, based on our experience with toyota reliability. Did take the extended warranty based on the pervasiveness of electrical systems

  • Toyota Needs a Compass - 2006 Toyota Sienna
    By -

Toyota needs a compass because they have lost their way. I have owned other Toyotas and they never needed more than maintenance items. Not so with my Sienna. After only 4 years the front air conditioning failed. Then the passenger side sliding door failed. I was upset that it had broken, but thought it would take a $100-$200 part to get the problem fixed. Was I ever wrong. Toyota charges $1,100 just for the part and no company makes an after- market part! You have to take the door completely off the car to fix it. With the old Toyota it wouldnt have failed, but if it did it would have been simple to fix and the part wouldnt have cost so much. I wont be buying another Toyota.

  • Noisy - 2006 Toyota Sienna

This minivan is not all it is cracked up to be. It handles well, is attractive and may be reliable but the car is not as quiet as the reviewers indicated. The road noise is awful and you can feel every bump on the road. Plus the interior seems cheap. I made the mistake of leasing it and am stuck for 3 years. Not the brightest move I have made.

  • 2nd Sienna & 3rd Toyota - 2006 Toyota Sienna
    By -

Our third Toyota is a people moving, dump hauling, fishing, camping, road tripping machine! Leather seats are very good (I log daily mileage and have driven multiple long road trips with kids). It is easy to use the gearbox to enhance power and control. I wanted AWD and a fold down rear seat. XLE Limited is too much luxury as the most beneficial features are available on lower priced models. The fold down rear seat and especially the AWD are terrific. Dont care for a fixed nav system but back up camera is sometimes useful. Leather seats a must. Gas mileage is 19-20 everywhere. White color stays cleaner looking longer

  • Awesome Vehicle, great family fun - 2006 Toyota Sienna
    By -

I had a 98 ford Windstar and man did I have a great surprise! This car is awesome, versatile and capable. The stereo is excellent, ride is like a car and best of all, I paid less for the Sienna than what I paid in 1998! Bought it before the summer vacation, put on a hitch and airbags in the suspension. Towed small trailer for 2000 miles to date and it works great, 6 adults, no problem, lots of gear, no problem. This is the most silent car Ive driven so far, beats the euro cars hands down. My only complaint is that I could not get the electric 8 way chair and I am 64" so the driving position is OK, not great, but that is the only thing I can complain about!
