Overview & Reviews
Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.
- Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
- Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

"Gizmo" - 2008 Toyota Prius
By George - October 28 - 6:33 amI bought this car only and only for the car-pool lane. I shaved off 35-50 minutes in morning drive time. Im getting 55 miles per gallon. 48 with air conditioning running. Car is exceptional, has a lot of the features big ticket luxury cars have. The ride is flawless, sound system is great. I enjoy the blue-tooth and it is comfortable. If youre looking for an economic easy to ride car with decent pick-up and all the bells and whistles then go and test drive it. I was surprised that it has some pick-up. Its not a Porsche or a muscle car, keep that in mind when test driving it. Mine is loaded and I really appreciate the car for the time I save driving and the fuel efficiency

Love My Prius - 2008 Toyota Prius
By allura - September 30 - 5:30 amThis is the first prius I purchased, when I finished signing the paperwork, I made the salesman go over all the driving info I needed, he did. I was amazed at the interior, it felt luxury all the way. The engine is totally quiet, everything about the prius is awesome. The color is light green and interior is beige, and drives brand new, comes with 7 yr 100 miles warranty. I would not trade this car for anything, wanted one last year but the price and waiting list was long, worth the wait. Radio could be better. All I can say is test drive a prius and you will be sold, take my word.

Fuel savings vs Ford Escape traded in - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Jim in Wimberley, Tx - August 15 - 11:30 pmMy Ford Escape averaged 20mpg. I prepared a spreadsheet to compare fuel and cost savings with my new Prius. Everytime I fill up I write down the price per gallon, no. of gallons purchased, total cost of fuel, and no of miles traveled. So far, weve driven the Prius 3,500 miles and averaged 45 mpg, with a total cost savings of $365.00 and 97 gallons of fuel. Just think of the fuel and money we can save if those of us that dont need a truck or larger SUV any longer. Ive hauled loads of potting soil, mulch and pots in the back of the Prius without any problems. Its time to reduce the amount of oil we consume where possible.

STUPID CAR - very disappointed!!!!! - 2008 Toyota Prius
By adam07 - July 26 - 5:33 amI bought this car in march 08, and two months later, there are countless dents from the smallest branches and acorns, it has dinky wheels, and the ugliest design, plus the brakes got really squeaky by June of 08 and Toyota told me there is nothing they could do. Toyota is the worst car company ever, I made a HUGE mistake, I should have bought a Jeep Patriot instead, it has more style, still has good gas mileage, and is a hell of a lot more durable than this junk!

Best Hybrid Car Hands Down - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Mark Levin - June 28 - 11:36 pmI purchased a 2008 Silver Touring Edition with package 6. I am very impressed with the entire car. I have been averaging 52 to 64.9 miles per gallon on my 24 mile city commute to work. The A/C and Bluetooth work great. I also enjoy the aux jack with my iPod. The upgraded sound system is excellent. As far as I am concerned this is the best hybrid car available and blows the Honda Civic away in versatility and mileage. Tough to get, but worth the wait. The Touring Edition adds some flair with the 16" wheels and larger spoiler. The extra stabilizer bars are also included but are not visible. My other car is a Lexus so I am very familiar with quality.

A Vehicle Thats Appreciating - 2008 Toyota Prius
By ML - April 9 - 1:20 amI traded in a performance luxury sedan (of the 3-letter ilk) expecting to make concessions in reducing my carbon footprint. I found that this vehicle, while not as zippy or cornering-agile, was as comfortable, spacious, and amenity-rich (Package #6) as any of my previous vehicles. It also boasts the best MPG (49 Hwy, 46 Cty) of any of my previous vehicles including my beloved Honda CRX in the 80s. As oil approaches $200/barrel, the demand for the Prius will increase and it will hold its value longer, adding to its appeal. I enjoy driving it more than any other car Ive had (and Ive owned 25!). I remain excited to see the next model which I hope will include the improvements below.

Surprisingly Awesome - 2008 Toyota Prius
By GreenMachine - March 9 - 2:36 pmMy wife and I were looking for a more fuel effecient car but didnt want to sacrifice comfort and space. After comparing the Prius with the Civic we settled on the Prius and Im sure glad we did. Theres a ton of space in this little car. Aside from that, were getting twice the fuel economy we were getting with our old car. Thank you Toyota!

Engineering miracle - 2008 Toyota Prius
By Charlie S. - January 26 - 12:16 pmBest design ever from Toyota at a great price. Several years ahead of the competition. Top of the line model includes high end luxuries like leather, navigation, bluetooth, keyless entry, and rear-view camera. In 35 years of driving, I have never been more enthusiastic about owning a car. The electric motor assists the gasoline engine when power is needed and does not disappoint. Even with full time maximum AC, I still get 44 MPG which will save me thousands of dollars at the gas pump every year. Surprisingly spacious cabin and trunk for a compact car.

The Ecology and Economy Car! - 2008 Toyota Prius
By chinoloco93 - January 16 - 9:56 pmWhen gas prices hit 4 bucks a gallon in San Francisco area, that was it. Bye bye Lexus, Hello Prius. Since I am a Lexus owner, was already familiar with Toyota build and quality. I learned to drive without the lead foot and after a week, I am still at 51 mpg. It is important to use the cruise control when trying to coax a few more mpg on the freeway. My wife and I find the car very fun to drive. We look at the energy and the consumption gauges frequently and try to stay over 50 MPG. Love it.
