This Year's Model Updates:

For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.

Pros:
  • Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
Cons:
  • Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

  • Fun to drive/own - 2005 Toyota Prius

If I didnt have to tow a boat, Id have bought two of these instead of just one. One of the most fun to drive cars, I look forward to the wife and I going out on weekends just so I get to drive it once in awhile. A lot of pep considering whats under the hood. We got the #5 package (loaded with everything) and its really great. Even better when I have to stop for fuel. So far 1200 miles on $24 worth of gas. It needs to have deeper tint on the windows as the interior gets really warm in the sun.

  • Must Buy! - 2005 Toyota Prius

Driving this vehicle is so much fun. It is my wifes car, but I try to drive whenever I get a chance. I love the real-time fuel consumption gauge. The GPS is perfect for the city. The steering is great. The car accelerates suprisingly fast. There is plenty of room for my large road bike in the back. As a 6 2" male, I fit comfortably in the front & rear seats. Most of all I like that the car has actually appreciated in value. That is unheard of!

  • 2004 Prius - excellent - 2005 Toyota Prius

It is fun to drive and economical with plenty of space. It seems to get better mileage after a period of warm-up especially during cold or wet conditions so for short hops with long parking times, mileage suffers during the winter.

  • Awesome Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

This is my second Prius, first was a 2002, also awesome. I was told that highway mi/gal will be lower, but I find that not to be true. I can get as good as 50 mi/gal on long interstate trips. In the city I get somewhat less. There are also some driving habits you can pick up to increase performance. You get ques from the "energy" display. Very clever engineering.

  • mini-suv (not just a second car) - 2005 Toyota Prius

Apart from all the hype about mileage (all true), cool new technology, and styling, the real story about the 2005 Toyota Prius is its versatility as a primary vehicle for large families. Deceptively stylish on the outside, comfortably cozy on the inside, and compact and maneuverable enough to fit into tight parking spaces, the Prius is also capable of carrying awkward and oversized loads that wouldnt fit into many SUVs. After a year of extensive driving in all sorts of weather (snow, ice, rain, heat) and terrain (mountains, coastlines, rural gravel roads, freeways, city streets), this vehicle averaged 53 mpg overall after 15,000 miiles, with one-tank averages between 48 and 66 mpg.

  • Toyota Prius The Car of This Century - 2005 Toyota Prius

You have all heard about the great fuel economy, but that is not the reason to buy this car. The innovative, intelligent, user friendly design. The unique look, the ease of driveabilty. The turns-on-a-dime handling. The trailblazing technology displyaed inside and out. And, the just plain fun this car returns to driving are the reasons to buy a Prius.I now look forward to being in my car. I feel the thrill I had the first time I ever got behind the wheel of a vehicle everytime I drive this car. The message it sends to the world that I am smart, environmentally responsible and cool are good too. And 50MPG in the real world doesnt hurt either! I LOVE my Prius!

  • BEST CAR I EVER OWNED - 2005 Toyota Prius
    By -

What can I say? This is absolutely the best car I have ever owned. After 78000+ miles we will be trading for a new 2010 next week. The trade in value makes it possible to get a new model for almost half price. We have enjoyed many trips in our Prius and had fun playing with beating our mileage. Our best was 610 miles on one tank full. (about 11 gal as we still had some left). I never new how much cargo a hatch back could hold until we loaded up our Prius, because of the ability to lay the seats flat, I can haul almost as much as my other car an SUV.

One of the best cars on the road!!! Its smooth, comfortable, economic and in parts like D.C. you can drive on the HOV even if there is only one person in the car!

  • Great Car...Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius

Have had my Prius for a month and a half. Great ride after the learning curve. This has got to be the wave of the future. Right around 47-48 miles per gallon so far (new car and winter driving).
