Overview & Reviews
For the 2005 Toyota Prius, a rear wiper is now standard, the sun visor material has been changed from vinyl to fabric, and the Smart Entry and Start system has been renamed the Smart Key System.
- Outstanding mileage, ultralow emissions, generous amount of interior room, hatchback utility, reasonable price, excellent build quality.
- Less power than other midsize sedans, some confusing controls, real-world driving results in lower mileage than the window sticker suggests.

Best car I have ever owned - 2005 Toyota Prius
By LMR - July 17 - 3:23 amEverything I wanted in/on a car isstandard on the Prius. I opted for the silent entry and the two extra side window curtain air bags and the floormats for a low $1,080 over the low priceof $19,995. LMRps Electric windows and doorlocks-cruise control-electric heater-power steering-powerbrakes-cannot leave head-lights on after exiting-super low coefficient of drag ALL standard equipment and you dont have to plug it in over night!!! Only thing I dont like is I forget to take my car key cuz I only need it to unlock the doors if it is in my pocket.

second to none - 2005 Toyota Prius
By exNYer - July 13 - 9:23 amBy far the best car Ive ever owned. The spaciousness of the car, both seating and the ability to carry large of boxes, packages, is oustanding. With the back seats down and the front passenger seat down, I was able to carry an 8 foot ladder entirely with the car. I drive the car between S.F. and Las Vegas monthly, on each trip I stop once for refueling and arrive at my destination without feeling either tired or cramped (and I am no small guy). Servicing the car is easy, every 5000 miles I bring it to my local dealership... No problems, great service. I can not wait for my wife to start looking for a new car.... the choice will be easy... it will be another Prius.

04 Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Ned Martin - July 13 - 3:56 amWe have owned this car for exactly one year and have no problems or complaints. We have taken the car on a 3000+ mile trip (CT to Fla) as well as a daily driver, and its been comfortable and reliable as well as a lot of fun to drive. Our current mileage (winter, combined) is about 45 mpg; on the highway if we keep it around 60 mph is 58. Combine this with the fun factor and reasonable price and we are extremely satisfied.

Simply Glorius! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By brenda.spencer - June 23 - 8:26 pmIve never rated anything ALL 10s before. That sums up the Prius experience for me, and I hope it will encourage you to "go for it." You will not be disappointed in any way, if you are deciding whether or not to buy one.

Great Car! - 2005 Toyota Prius
By CB - June 21 - 5:40 pmThe best full efficient, environmentally friendly car on the market. Driving experience is wonderful, even driving in snow is no problem with this car, except ground clearance. A real good set of winter tires and it goes where my SUV used to.

The future is here - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Alan Lippy - June 2 - 5:36 amHard to imagine the interior room and comfort when looking from the outside. Average gas mileage since owning is 48 miles to gallon. That is 65% highway and 35% local driving with 15 mile daily commute in suburban Phila. The handling is great on curves and ramps. Overall, while driving down the road, called the dealer and ordered another vehicle from him...if that tells you anything.

2005 Prius - 2005 Toyota Prius
By Jmtdmt53 - May 30 - 6:36 pmWe live in Western New York (Buffalo). We took delivery of this vehicle in November of 2004 after a wait of 4 months. We were originally told that the order time could be up to 6 months. We have found that the average mileage since delivery is approx. 42 mpg. This is less than the sticker estimates. I spoke to a Toyota product specialist for Prius at the the Detroit Auto Show in January and he told me that the cold weather could be the biggest factor affecting MPG at this time. I have spoken to 2 other Prius owners in this city and they are getting similar mileage. Otherwise we are very pleased with the quality and design of the vehicle and are happy with out purchase.

Guilt Free Luxury - 2005 Toyota Prius
By voyagers - May 30 - 11:40 amCall it a compact car if you like, but it can haul a ton of people and stuff. Take the rear covers out and fold the seats down if you need more. It survived the NW winter like a champ. Hot-soak thermos feature for the cylinder head keeps heated coolant for 3 days and pumps it in for the cold start. Just 1 of dozens of great features. Synergy drive rocks. Some w 300k already. Our 18000 mi average is just under 52 mpg. This summer well beat that. Think theyre slow? Prius does teach you to conserve but if you need the torque try 82ft.lbs. from the engine and 295! from the electrics. 13 to 1 compression ratio with variable valve timing, regenerative braking... can you tell I like this car?

By Sher - May 28 - 12:03 pmDriving our Prius has been an inspiring experience; its given my family a new appreciation for our environment. Its allowing us the opportunity to move towards a greener lifestyle. Performance is great, our Prius has pickup, zip and responds well in each situation weve put it through.
