This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.

Pros:
  • Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
Cons:
  • Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

  • Protect the Environment and Great MPG 2! - 2008 Toyota Prius
    By -

I am a car enthusiast so I had a closed mind to Hybrids, but after knowing a few people who really liked them I decided to test drive one. Ive now owned mine for over 3 months and I really am impressed with Toyota and this car. Concern for the environment was my original incentive but the gas mileage is really impressive with commensurate power and handling. Its great filling the tank up for $30 (its a 10 gal tank) twice a month. At stop and go speeds the electric motor is working with no emissions or usage of gas. Gridlock and drive-thrus or waiting for someone with the a/c or heat on is no longer a concern.

  • Good Decision - 2008 Toyota Prius

I hesitated about buying the car but my 85 year old father insisted I look. I was very pleased once I got in and took it for a drive. Like some others, Im not bowled over by my mileage - high 30s - but its better than my old SUV. Someone called the look of this car "a Middle School science experiment" and I cant disagree. I hope they "update" the exterior with future models. Good purchase, happy about it, but a bit disappointed with my less-than-advertised MPG.

  • Nice ride - 2008 Toyota Prius

Its a very smooth ride. It was much better then I had anticipated when buying the Prius. Excellent mileage! The rear view visibility isnt the greatest but it really isnt terrible either.

  • Quiet, Advanced, Love it - 2008 Toyota Prius

This is my first hybrid car and I must say that it is far exceeding my expectations. My Touring grade Prius is quiet, comfortable, and smart. The cabin is open and feels bigger than it is. The hatchback is more functional then my previous mid size sedan. The smart key feature is really cool too. This is the car of the future.

  • Awesomely Satisfied - 2008 Toyota Prius

Wanted a Touring, but the dealer didnt have one in leather, so settled for standard w/Pkg #6. No regrets. Weve had the Prius for a week now and are still finding new and fun aspects of being a Prius owner. The comfort of the leather seats is first rate. Having fun with the "game" of maximizing fuel economy and energy regeneration! I must have a lead foot, because Ive been averaging 43 mpg (which is more than twice what I get with my other cars.) Havent been able to get it to average more - but we live in a very hilly area SE of Oregon City. Actually bought this for my wife, but Im driving it more than she is. Great handling, cornering, braking, etc. Good acceleration.

  • Great technology but less on comfort - 2008 Toyota Prius

It is a great car, gas mileage, space inside. However it has left things to wish on comfort. The seat settings are very basic, no heat in the seats even though it is the top of the range version.

  • Wipers and power points - 2008 Toyota Prius
    By -

For the most part the Prius is a good vehicle. The most annoying thing is the Wiper control and placement. It is to easy to hit and start a real circus of front and rear wipers. Secondly with a vehicle that is one big battery, Why was it designed to kill the power to the power charge points when the vehicle is off. This is completely illogical and quite annoying in todays use of so many required electronics.

  • Best car for normal consumer - 2008 Toyota Prius
    By -

I love my 08 Prius, I have over 215,000 miles on the car, I purchased it with 168,000. While many of these reviews come from folks that have owned the car for a short time, I am Credit Union Autobroker in Portland OR and have owned and sold over 300 of Prius. These cars in my opinion are the most reliable car a normal consumer can buy. I get about 45 to 47 for my crazy all around mileage, and tend to drive it pretty hard. No timing belt, just change the oil and drive. Front brake pads, last forever, most of your braking if your normal, comes from the regenerating braking system. Have seen FB pads go well over 100K miles. I love these cars and give them 5 stars...my wife stole a V which is the wagon, and not given it back...she love it. My daughter is in Phoenix driving an 08 Touring model... Simply the best little rigs you can own. Jan / 2018 still driving this car...and still loving it..

  • Great Car - 2008 Toyota Prius

I had a 2004 Chevy Silverado and now I drive a Prius and I do not miss the truck. I ordered mine with PKG #3 and it is Black with gray interior. For anyone thinking about buying this car you have to take one for a ride . All I can say it is incredible, it handles great and gives a surprisingly great big car ride. Gas mileage is just mind blowing for me going from a truck, I avg 51 mpg and have driven it so far 15000 miles. I am 6 tall and I have no trouble driving it. I also tried the Honda Civic and didnt like the car at all. Get the Prius you will not regret it. Great little car.
