This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota now offers a slightly decontented "standard" Prius model that lacks cruise control and heated mirrors but in exchange has a significantly lower base price.

Pros:
  • Outstanding fuel economy, low emissions, generous amount of interior space, easy to maneuver in tight spaces, space-age interior design, a lower price for 2008.
Cons:
  • Less powerful and agile than other midsize sedans, a few disappointing interior plastics.

  • 162,000 and loving it!!! - 2008 Toyota Prius

I love this car! It is the most reliable and inexpensive car Ive owned. I plan on keeping this car for many more years. I love when I have to park it because its small enough to fit in those tight spots. The backup camera is a plus and its pretty good in the snow as long as you have good tires. I know eventually Ill have to replace the battery but I intend to keep it since the body of the car is in such great shape. I would highly recommend owning a Prius.

  • Blown away - 2008 Toyota Prius

I could write on and on about how much we like our car. In an effort to be brief Ill offer the items that could be improved. The A/C system is underpowered, It takes 15min to get a chill on during bright summers day. Next Ive never been able to put more than 10.5 gallons in the tank (specs put it at 11.9 gallons). The 10.5 was only after we ran out of gas and ran on electric for a half mile. Lastly this car gets blown around in crosswinds. If youre not paying attention you could end up in another lane.

  • After the first 10000 miles - 2008 Toyota Prius

More than I expected. Much better mileage than advertised. EPA estimators need to get a grip! Have averaged over 51 mpg - and I live in the "Hill City" (Lynchburg, VA)! Excellent handing, loads of room for everyone and your extra toys. Battery charging is slower than expected, but no problems. Never had so much as a hiccup with the engine, powertrain, or gauges. After 10,000 miles, this is easily the best car I have ever owned. Love the safety features, except for the backup beeping! Good thing I found out how to turn it off. :) No user serviceable parts, which is a drag; you have to take it to the dealer. Overall, its a fun car as well as extremely efficient.

  • The Hybrid for 2008 - 2008 Toyota Prius

Top quality as expected from Toyota. I am tracking 54 mpg in the city and 47 on the highway. 70/30 respectively. Comfort, turning radius, amenities, vehicle handling and most importantly fuel economy make this the only choice for todays car owner.

  • Hybrid excellence - 2008 Toyota Prius

I love my new Prius. I am amazed at the build quality and performance of this frugal hybrid. I am averaging 47 mpg. This factor alone made it a must have. It is a smooth, quiet, comfortable ride!

  • 80,000 miles and LOVE it! - 2008 Toyota Prius

Had Prius for about 80,000 miles. Car runs excellent. Love just about everything about it. Driving it feels just like driving a Lexus. It easily gets 100 miles per hour (speed) yet ride is very smooth. This car allows me to be able to commute (daily) for about 100 miles each way.

  • More than meets the eye! - 2008 Toyota Prius

You wouldnt believe me if I told you but Im going to anyway...I was able to fit a full size refrigerator in my Prius. Thats right. There is so much more space inside than what it appears to have from outside. I am a locksmith in Panama City, fl. And I use my Prius as a service vehicle. Having more than enough space in the back (without folding seats) to accommodate all of the tools and equipment required to do my job, and the way I have it configured, I can store supples, locks, etc. in a cabinet beneath my machines. This car is amazing! It has more than paid for itself with the extensive city driving I do and with a lumbar pillow, is plenty comfortable for driving the 8+ hrs a day!

  • Love the Prius - 2008 Toyota Prius

I checked on this vehicle for over a year before I bought it. I thought it would be a good vehicle to buy. I drove it on two occasions prior to purchase. It has been much better than that. No problems, mileage isnt quite what others claim, but I am happy with 45 average. The car is full of goodies that others miss out on. It is a very good experience to own and drive. It does take a few weeks to get used to it, but when you do, you will love it.

  • Protect the Environment and Great MPG 2! - 2008 Toyota Prius
    By -

I am a car enthusiast so I had a closed mind to Hybrids, but after knowing a few people who really liked them I decided to test drive one. Ive now owned mine for over 3 months and I really am impressed with Toyota and this car. Concern for the environment was my original incentive but the gas mileage is really impressive with commensurate power and handling. Its great filling the tank up for $30 (its a 10 gal tank) twice a month. At stop and go speeds the electric motor is working with no emissions or usage of gas. Gridlock and drive-thrus or waiting for someone with the a/c or heat on is no longer a concern.

  • Nice ride - 2008 Toyota Prius

Its a very smooth ride. It was much better then I had anticipated when buying the Prius. Excellent mileage! The rear view visibility isnt the greatest but it really isnt terrible either.
