Overview & Reviews
There are no major changes to this year's Toyota wagon, although new SAE testing procedures have resulted in lower horsepower ratings.
- Versatile cargo area, roomy rear seats, good gas mileage, generous standard equipment list, availability of all-wheel drive and stability control.
- Modest torque output, less fun to drive than its styling suggests.

Very happy with purchase - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By terry - May 19 - 2:00 amWe have had the matrix now for over about 1.5 years and she has performed beautifully. 17k miles and not one trip back to the dealership. Gas mileage is 35 combined. the manual is fun to drive and has good acceleration. I bought this for my wife, but I admit that I enjoy driving it every now and then when I want to give my truck a rest.

We named it Eon - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Cindy Carter - April 27 - 6:26 amSo far, this car has been very impressive in terms of comfort, performance and gas mileage. Great ride quality, and almost no wind noise. We considered a Prius, but since most of our driving is highway, it didnt make sense to spend extra money for the hybrid. We love the look of it, and it has every feature except AWD.

Matrix XR - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Tom - April 1 - 2:00 pmBought Matrix XR in a 5-speed, which is an absolute must. This is not a fast car even with a manual; I can imagine how slow an automatic would be. But with gas over $3, horsepower is highly overrated. I didnt get the option for ABS, but wish I would have. The standard, stock brakes are average at best and dont leave me feeling too confident in them. Stopping distance seems really long. I really enjoy the way it drives. Its very roomy inside. Im about 62" and I feel very comfortable in the car. Tons of room in the back. Plenty of headroom for backseat passengers. Plus, it looks cool. I would definitely get the XR with the cooler looking bodykit over the base model.

Matrix Driver - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By flmthgrl - February 16 - 1:23 pmGreat little car, handles well in snow. fun to drive, but can be a bit of a noisy ride. Wish AWD version got better mileage. Even though this car is small, it is very adaptable with fold-down seats, hatchback etc.

Awesome Car - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By JP - November 12 - 9:43 amI stumbled into this car and whoa, I love it. The best of both worlds... sports car mixed with reliabilty, utility, and fun. This car utilizes Toyotas 2zz-ge engine, and boy does it go. The 6-speed takes some getting use to, as does the tighter suspension, but once you feel comfortable, look out. I have a hard time no wanting to push this car everytime I drive it. Its perfect for me because I can haul my kids, my band equipment and still be able to feel like a kid putting the pedal to the metal every once and a while. I love it!!

The car I will most gladly trade-in - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By robert - October 22 - 12:46 pmEngine noise is predominant especially when revving engine. Steering is easy to handle with more grips on the road. Instrumentation controls stinks.

Excellent Value, ride and quality - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Garry - October 16 - 10:13 pmI traded a Tundra for the Matrix. I thought I would miss the truck. Not at all. This car is amazingly roomy and comfortable. Great fuel economy and pep for a 4 cyl. I have owned Toyotas for over 30 years and will not buy anything else. While you might pay a "little" more than other vehicles, in the long run, you will come out way ahead.

Very Good - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By MJ - October 16 - 2:06 pmI like my Matrix, however, I would like it even more if it came with a cruise control. It was the only 2006 on the lot, and at the time did not think it would matter. After owning one, I find that it does matter. Because it drives so smooth on the highway that before realizing it, I catch myself speeding. It would also be nice if it had an interrior dome light. All the other things it comes with are awesome! But without the cruise control and the interrior lights, Im thinking about trading it in for one that has it. But looking around, its amazing how having those two features jacks-up the price of the car way too much.
