Overview & Reviews
There are no major changes to this year's Toyota wagon, although new SAE testing procedures have resulted in lower horsepower ratings.
- Versatile cargo area, roomy rear seats, good gas mileage, generous standard equipment list, availability of all-wheel drive and stability control.
- Modest torque output, less fun to drive than its styling suggests.

Roomy car with good looks & good mileage - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Don - January 28 - 6:26 pmI was looking at a hatchbacks: Toyota Matrix, Honda Fit, Kia Spectra5 and the Mazda 3 hatch. The Matrix had more pick-up on the test drive, more room and less cabin noise.

Must have picked the lemon - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By chosepoorly - January 16 - 4:13 pmBought the car new and am a very careful owner. My last car, a Chevy housed outside in the elements, was 12 years old when I traded it in with very little problems. After 2 years, the fuel pump went. After 2 1/2 years, electrical system and sensors failed. Just after the warranty expired, multiple systems failed, requiring a new battery and $400 worth of repairs. I have to drive long distances for my new job and have to trade it because I dont know when or where it will fail next. Disappointing, considering Toyotas supposed quality.

Great little car for the Money. - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Paul - December 27 - 12:40 pmGreat Car. It rides smooth with crisp handling. It will stop on a dime and accelerate quickly through traffic. Its quiet running and its styling has an aggressive look. The fit and finish is amazing. It gets great gas mileage and its reliable, a great alternative to a gas guzzling Jeep!

Nice Surprise But Do Your Homework - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Nisky16 - December 23 - 6:00 amSo far this car has been pleasant to drive and is very versatile. Despite its sporty look, its not a sports car so if your aim is power dont buy it. It sits higher up than regular cars and feels more like a small SUV but with better gas mileage and handling. The emergency brake doesnt catch all the time when I park but is hopefully an easy fix. Ive had the car for 1 month and am undecided on whether I think the mileage is a good deal yet. Highway driving rated approx 360 miles/tank, mixed driving has been approx 300-325, city was less than 300. Hopefully the tank just needs more breaking in. Paint is durable - car was hit with hundreds of marble size hail and not a dent on it.

2006 Matrix 5spd - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By shartman - August 20 - 4:53 amI truly expected more out of this 18,000 dollar vehicle. It is very roomy, good on gas and is a pretty color. That is about all I can say. I have had no major problems with it. The stereo sounds terrible. And the hydraulics that open the hatch dont work well. I have to push it up. I really expected more out of this Toyota. I also have to mention it runs like a car that is 6 or 8 years old. It idles very hard and rough for only having like 11,000 miles on it. Not what I expected!

Dead spot - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By Clutch problems - August 17 - 11:03 amI really like most things about this car. It fits my need for comfort, space, versatility, and mileage. However, the clutch to acceleration from first gear bogs down unless I really rev the RPMs. I have been put in some dangerous positions due to this.

Fun Drive - 2006 Toyota Matrix
By mbelanger - July 31 - 10:20 amThis is the perfect car for me. It is a fun ride, a safe vehicle, very reliable, high quality construction and very economical. For those who want something smaller then the RAV4 this vehicle is perfect. I urge you to get the anti lock brakes, and the AWD. I had owned a Corolla SR5 in the 80s and loved it. This is the evolution of that car which captures the spirit of the SR5 and also gives you the versatility of a wagon. I have owned some nice cars, the Matrix is at the top of the list.
