This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota's midsize SUV is fully redesigned for 2008. Significantly larger than the original, the 2008 Highlander features a standard V6 engine and a habitable third-row seat.

Pros:
  • Powerful and fuel-efficient V6, easy to maneuver for its size, user-friendly cabin design with reconfigurable second-row seats and a fully usable third row.
Cons:
  • Third-row seat folds as a single unit rather than in 50/50 sections.

Very good and functional interior design. Quiet and comfortable ride for its class, almost as good as an RX 350 but 10K cheaper, bigger and with the same mileage rating! There are not many options for base model and Limited is pricey. Sports offers the best compromise in price and features.

  • Hope my love affair w/Toyota continues - 2008 Toyota Highlander

This is my third Toyota. I started with the ever reliable Corolla that I had for 12 years and 120,000 miles until I passed it on to my niece. Then in 2001, I was one of the first to buy the newly introduced Highlander. It was an instant love affair. Ive had it for 6.5 years and it just hit 96,000 miles. It has had very minor problems or issues. I decided to upgrade to the 2008 even though the new design hasnt grown on me as quickly. I am also finding the "electronic" steering is taking some getting used to and I can really feel the changing of gears in this vehicle much more than my old highlander. I am not totally in love with my new highlander but I am hoping its just the transition.

  • Great Legroom - 2008 Toyota Highlander

I stand 6 ft 5 in tall, over 220 lbs and until I sat in the 2008 Highlander the only crossover vehicle I could physically get my legs behind the wheel was an Enclave or a GMC Acadia. The new Highlander layout is comfortable has plenty of knee room and even with the sunroof I have at least 2 in of headroom. As an SUV it has an excellent ride and handles well at highway speeds. Plenty of power and even at 70 mph there is still lots of pep left for passing. Beautiful exterior styling and finish. 19 in wheels improve the looks and the ride.

  • So Far a winner! - 2008 Toyota Highlander

A month and 1800 miles + and we love our new Highlander. The wide luxury ride took a little getting used to after a 95 GMC Jimmy and an 89 Pathfinder but it is a pleasure to drive especially on longer trips. I do not find any discomfort in the seats. Controls are well placed, interior design is good. Features seem to be well thought out and well placed. This is the first "luxury" vehicle I have ever owned and I think I have spoiled myself. Not an off road vehicle but I expect it to be good in bad weather. Love the nav, rear dvd for the kids, and aux input on the stereo for the ipod. The visibility seems excellent and I am expecting same Toyota quality I had in my Fav 84 Celica. Very happy!

I love this vehicle. I replaced my 03 Highlander Limited with the 08 Limited and what a difference. This car is like a luxury vehicle. Smooth comfortable and quiet ride. The only thing I miss from my 03 Highlander is the storage underneath the console. I would always hide my purse there.

  • We love it - 2008 Toyota Highlander

This is my first Toyota and we really do love it. I wish it got a little better gas milage but we needed the extra room. We really enjoy all the bells and whistles. We travel alot and it just makes it that much more enjoyable. We did get 24 mpg on a trip to Fla. but we usually get around 20 mpg.

As a man who has had 5 hip replacements and two knees, and was very happy with his two Odysseys, I was interested to look at the 08 Highlander. What scared me off the CX-9 was no Mazda store in town, and questionable reliability. I cannot be happier with the Toyota, nor with the way I was treated at the store (which I had never previously been in). The styling is outstanding, everyone knows Toyotas quality, and the mileage has been good.

Excellent choice. I compared to Acura MDX, Lexus RX 350, BMW X5 6 cyl., Hyundai VeraCruz, Subaru Tribeca with test drives. Sport model has firmer suspension than all other Highlander models which is why I picked it. Have pushed this car hard in turns and while it leans, it wont give up grip. Quiet and smooth on the highway. After 3,300 miles, I average 21 mpg overall. Seats are comfortable with plenty of room (3rd row only for small kids). V6 has great pickup and smooth shifts. Stereo is fine. Navigation system is a flop -- not intuitive -- buy a Garmin instead. Have owned Toyota/Lexus for 20 yrs. Great overall reliability.

  • Exceeds Expectations - 2008 Toyota Highlander

Took advantage of the low lease rates offered by Toyota in December, leasing a Base AWD with just a few options including rear air. Did not need anything fancy, but wanted something for my wife that would seat seven without the size of a minivan. The ride is smooth, quiet, and comfortable. The engine/transmission is powerful and well matched. Initial quality appears high, though I have owned the vehicle for only two weeks - time will tell. Although amenities on the base model are fairly minimal, it has the basics including cruise, tilt, decent radio, and some great features. The layout of the dashboard and instrumentation is very attractive.

Ive had mine about a month. I traded in my Camry when purchasing the Highlander. I was trying to decide between it and the Mazda CX-9. The Highlander won out because of the great reliabiitiy of Toyotas Ive owned vs the unreliable Mazda I also had in the past. I love my 08 Highlander Sport!
