This Year's Model Updates:

Toyota's midsize SUV is fully redesigned for 2008. Significantly larger than the original, the 2008 Highlander features a standard V6 engine and a habitable third-row seat.

Pros:
  • Powerful and fuel-efficient V6, easy to maneuver for its size, user-friendly cabin design with reconfigurable second-row seats and a fully usable third row.
Cons:
  • Third-row seat folds as a single unit rather than in 50/50 sections.

Drove the Lexus RX and GMC Acadia - dollar for dollar the best of the group. Interior build far surpasses the GMC product and is similar to the Lexus in build quality. Standard V6 provides good acceleration with AWD providing good traction in wet road conditions. Second row seats fold down easily providing amble room for hauling miscellaneous items. Sound system includes six disc CD changer, MP3, and adequate speaker support. The dashboard is perfect with attractive well thought-out design. Good head room, leather seats provide good lumbar support. 19 inch wheels add a great finishing touch to what is a great redesign of an already proven intermediate size SUV.

This was a replacement to years of minivans.. I was surprised that reliability has not been as good as I expected from what I was told of Toyota ( good marketing I guess),and some repair items under warranty required discussion elevated to dealer manager before issue was resolved. To the question , Will I buy another Toyota ? probably not

The power is great! The car is very roomy, with great features, with the back seat able to be turned in to bucket seats. Great visibility all around the car, feels very safe. The car is very stable, with the increased size of the car this year!

Toyo tires are horrible! stopping in snow/ice is nearly impossible. the steering is a little hard to get use to while trying to stay straight on highway. it has plenty of power and smooth shifting. too many rattles in the dashboard that is driving me crazy, gets worse in the winter

  • Larger interior, great ride, good looks - 2008 Toyota Highlander

The limited is a good quiet ride. Its really a van disguised as an SUV. Goes in a straight line very well. The interior is roomy and near luxury with leather. Drove and looked at many SUVs and waited for this model to come out. So far, we are glad we did. Averaged 27mpg on last highway trip at 70mph. Runs on regular, engine likes methanol. Beautiful exterior, build quality excellent. Automatic rear door might be a real plus on this SUV. Engine somewhat loud at cold start up, you can hear those 24 valves! Goes away quickly. Bluetooth phone dial by number is not very easy to use but speed dial works very well. This car was more expensive than others we tested, but worth it.

At 1000 miles the engine developed a cold engine knock that Toyota would not fix. They said it was the new piston design, and not a problem. When I unplugged my GPS from the console power outlet the entire console top came off with the plug. Very cheaply made. I dont drive it very much anymore because I hate the cold engine knock, and Im afraid of what else they might have compromised when they designed and produced this vehicle.

My wife and I just purchased the 08 Highlander Limited awd. We love this vehicle it drives really smooth, comfortable and quiet. There are so many features in the Limited model. We really wanted the nav. but there wasnt one available so we just took the one on the showroom which was the Blizzard Pearl without the nav. and DVD. I love the 19" wheels, they look really nice. Im planning to accessorize this suv with wind deflectors on the hood and running boards. Good luck to all.

I agree as to the above comments regarding the tires. Toyota should be ashamed to place such cheap dunlop tires. I have replaced them after 30k with Michellin cross terrain , huge improvement in handling. The truck sticks to the road like crazy glue. Also , the sqeak from the dashboard is getting on my nerves. Other then that love the vehicle. It is very family oriented , the 3rd raw came in handy. (optional) So far 45k.

08 Limited 4WD W/Leather. I like this car a lot for what we needed it for which is daily commuting, safety, winter driving and vacation trips. We will pull a POP for camping (when Toyota/or after market design a tow bar). It replaced 02 Odyssey. I am averaging 20 MPG with mixed driving on 5 tanks, so this should improve.

I never thought Id own a vehicle this big as Ive always had smaller cars. However, we needed something that could tow. I knew I wanted a Toyota but didnt like the 4Runner look. Was going to get the RAV4 until I saw the re-designed Highlander. I had to have one - love the look! Not crazy about the black 2-tone interior, but that is a minor thing. Also, wish the Bluetooth capability was standard. Not worth the additional $ in the higher end package. This thing drives excellent! Love the quiet drive especially on the highway. I recommend the 08 Highlander to everyone!!
