Overview & Reviews
The Echo is unchanged for 2004.
- Good gas mileage, speedy acceleration, roomy and functional interior, Toyota reliability.
- Cartoonish styling, annoying gauge placement, shaky handling, deceptively low base pricing.

Great Car!!! - 2004 Toyota Echo
By Dijon Baker - April 16 - 10:00 amI really love my new ECHO, it is such a nice little car. It is comfortable and fun. I like having a nice car that is easy on the wallet but also a great car. I really like the exterior styling and the front seats are good for seeing a lot of what goes on outside. The only bad thing is the engine. A 1.8 liter engine, like the Corollas would be nice because it needs a little more power.

Long Term Economy - 2004 Toyota Echo
By borchert - November 26 - 2:00 amOne of the most desirable features I have found with the Echo is the motor and drivetrain. It has excellent performance for a 1.5L motor - I assume this is due in part to the Variable Valve Timing. There is no timing belt that will need to be replaced in a few years, it uses a timing chain. There are no spark plug wires that need to be replaced either. I agree with the Edmunds review that the styling is not as desireable as the Scions which use the same drivetrain.

The Perfect Car - 2004 Toyota Echo
By ltrack - October 4 - 4:42 amBought this car used, 9 years old with 170,000km. It runs smooth as can be and I must get +50MPG. 650km to a tank in city driving. This is a dream car.

Best Starter Car! - 2004 Toyota Echo

Its a good car - 2004 Toyota Echo
By dickie - July 21 - 2:00 amThe car is cute on the outside, maybe moreso for girls, and the inside is very comfortable. I like the way the guages are set off to the side. After a couple days driving it, it actually becomes easier to glance sideways to see the speedomoter and the gas mileage is great. My only problem is on the interstate the wind from a semi will blow it sideways. Other than that, I love my echo.

an older model - 2004 Toyota Echo
By emery - September 26 - 10:00 amShaky steering wheel was really bad but dealer finally fixed it, mostly, tho it still does shake. Wipers were bad when new and just got worse. Do not clean the windshield.

Great little car - 2004 Toyota Echo
By dickrwh - September 20 - 2:00 amA great little car. I average high 40s fuel economy in the city even though it is rated low 40s. My highway mileage is somewhat lower since I tend to drive too fast. It seems to have a natural highway speed resonance of about 80-85. I have sometimes found myself over 100 mpg.

Milage as promised - 2004 Toyota Echo
By Cariade - July 22 - 10:00 amI commute 110 miloes a day and love my car. Gage placement takes a little getting used to but is really much better since nothing is ever blocking your viw of the gages

Driven Hard! - 2004 Toyota Echo
By trdecho1 - November 7 - 10:00 amMine is actually a 2000 5-speed sedan. Selection list did not go back past 2003. But I love mine, it has 64,000 miles and has not skipped a beat. It has been driven hard due to my lead foot! I run synthetic oil in engine and tranny. 0w-30 in the engine, and 75w-90 in the tranny. Helped alot with pickup and dealer put it in for me. I also run a aftermarket air filter, and took out the baffle in the air box. Put on different muffler, but not a cannon like all other imports, still quiet. I love out running hondas and fords and getting better gas milage in the process. Would keep this car even if I won the lottery!
