This Year's Model Updates:

In an effort to make Camry ownership more affordable, Toyota adds an entry-level Standard model to the lineup this year. All 2005 Toyota Camry models receive freshened exterior styling with a new grille, headlamps, taillamps and wheel designs. All Camrys now have antilock brakes as standard equipment, and the optional automatic transmission for all models is now a five-speed unit. Inside, all Camrys feature Optitron gauges, steering wheel audio controls, a rear center headrest and upgraded seat fabrics. The XLE V6 now includes standard leather seating.

Pros:
  • Roomy, comfortable, quiet, plenty of safety and luxury features, high resale value, strong reputation for reliability.

  • 2005 Is Refined above 04,03,02 - 2005 Toyota Camry

I have owned a 05,04, and 02 Camry LE 4cycl. I am a Honda Accord fan, owned may Accords , some to 220k mi, so am not being bias to the Camry. But Toyota ha s built a great car! The 05 ha s anti lock breaks and the sponginess of the front breaks have been tweaked in 05, this is a common compliant from myself, friends and other reviewers. Yet in 05 they have tuned up the suspension to compensate for the soft rid e to the braking. My favorite car to date is a 1997 Lexus Es 300, I must say that the 05 Camry has many similarities, soaks up bumps, rattle free and decent real world handling between soft ride and decent handling. This car is GREAT on mileage , 22-24 city 30-38 hwy

  • Fuel Economy Disappoints - 2005 Toyota Camry

This model is up to Toyotas standards in build quality and reliability, but it suffers in comparison with my 98 Camry 4 (and my wifes former 97) in two respects. The engine is louder under acceleration, producing a very audible roar, and the fuel economy is less. The 97 and 98, EPA rated at 23/30, achieved 22/31. The 05, EPA rated 24/34, is getting 20/30 at best. If it werent for the clearly inflated EPA rating, my disappointment would be less. Additionally, the dashboard display of avg mpg is consistently 5-6 mpg too high. If it says 36, Im getting 30; if it says 24, Im getting 19. Makes me think Im getting EPA mileage when Im not. How convenient for Toyota!

  • Great Car - 2005 Toyota Camry

Our last Camry, a 1990, was traded in after 14 1/2 years. It was still running perfectly, no problems all those years. We expect the same from this one. It is smooth running, quiet, good acceleration, plenty of leg and head room. The trunk is very large and rear seats fold to to carry large objects. The navigational display is somewhat difficult to use, but once you learn, it is very helpful in finding stores and addresses.

  • I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND TO BUY TOYOTA - 2005 Toyota Camry

My car only has 66,000 miles and I had to spend so much money to get it fix 2 weeks back the car was giving me a problem of stopping middle of road and was not going over 40 mph I took to dealer and he said some animal somehow got in the car and chew all the cables (how animal can get inside from the bottom of the car) I believed what he said and paid $700 to fix it after 2 weeks all of sudden my car stopped right in center of the highway and I towed to the dealer and now he said it is related to the prior problem and I have to pay $1,100 to fix this. Never ever buy Toyota.

I purchased a 05 Camry Le in July, traded in an 03 Xterra for it. Lots of features for little $$$. The best thing i like about it is the gas mileage, which is terrific at over 30 miles a gallon. great overall car for the $$$

Very smooth driving and comfortable car. Easy to take on long trips without being worn out on arrival. Large enough for 5 people if necessary, roomy back and trunk.

  • Worst car I ever owned - 2005 Toyota Camry

I bought this car from my mother since she could no longer drive. It had 5000 miles on it. Kept it for 2 years and hated driving it. It was terrible in the snow. ABS did basically nothing. Steering was unstable in the snow, as was acceleration. I usually drive or tow cars to the junkyard, but this one I couldnt wait to trade in, at 4 years old and 24000 miles. The only plus was that it was good on gas.

This is one heck of a nice car. Love the ride and the quality of the inside of the car. Everybody has given it great compliments and it looks way better than the accord. A lot of my friends now want this car and my neighbors are jealous of me. LOVE IT

  • Still Going Strong - 2005 Toyota Camry

Ive had my base 2005 Camry since I purchased it new in August 2004. It now has 75,000 miles and I commute 68 miles roundtrip 5 days a week. Im getting approximately 28 mpg which I consider good. I had a tune up at 60,000 miles which improved its performance. Ive also changed the transmission fluid twice. Other than oil changes every 5,000 miles, I havent had to do much else. Its been a great reliable car so far.

  • Problem with less than 1000 miles! - 2005 Toyota Camry

When doing a rolling stop and then accelerating, the car seems to not know what gear to go into. When the gas is pressed you can hear the engine but the car doesnt go initially. It then catches up but jerks the car. The dealership says this is do to the new electronic wiring. If this is so, then I do not understand why this car could possible be the #1 selling car in America. my 1985 Buick Shyhawk drove smoother! No lie! This was merely a brushoff by the dealership and Im the one who loses. Looking at possibly trading in the car!
