This Year's Model Updates:

Subaru is building on last year's successful redesign of the Legacy by making a few additional improvements for 2006. For instance, Legacys with normally aspirated engines feature a new variable valve lift system that slightly improves horsepower and torque, while a new DVD-based navigation system has been made available on selected trim levels. The trim levels themselves have also changed slightly. The budget-performance 2.5 GT trim has been discontinued, leaving buyers to ante up for the pricier GT Limited. There's a new Spec B version of the GT Limited sedan with a firmer suspension and 18-inch wheels. Also note that GT wagons are no longer available with a manual gearbox. Base Legacy 2.5i sedans and wagons have bigger wheels, stronger brakes, an air filtration system and an engine immobilizer as standard equipment this year.

  • Best vehicle I have ever had! - 2006 Subaru Legacy

This is my first Subaru and not my last after this experience. I have had GM, Ford, Mercury, Chrysler, and Jeep in the past and this blows all of them away without a glimpse in the rear view mirror!

I love this car. 195.8 K miles. It looks good, it is fun to drive and roomy. The leather is nice. The turbo lubrication design is weak. The access to repair is difficult. The bosses on the aluminum block are easily cross threaded. Oil level must be monitored very closely as well as change intervals. Excellent in snow, weather. Once you have AWD youll never go back.

  • A great car for under 30k - 2006 Subaru Legacy

It took a week for the dealership to transport my car from another dealership, but it definitely worth waiting for. Its powerful turbo engine is very quick and instantly responsive; it makes passing a breeze. Undoubtedly, the car handles so well that it makes driving fun. The interior noise level, however, is a bit on the high side. Fuel economy is somewhat poor for such a small car.

  • Best Kept Secret in Affordable AWD Sedan - 2006 Subaru Legacy

After four Audis, I wasnt in the game for another overpriced, high maintenance, and problematic German sedan. I also wasnt in the market for the terrible handling and riding Accord or Camry. I was pleasantly surprised when I test drove the Legacy; very good power, excellent ride, and great build quality. After a few weeks, it has exceeded all expectations Ive had; it rides great; with a very good balance of ride quality to handling, has strong pulling power, looks great, and is very comfortable. Also, the dealer is great, no "high end car" attitude. If youre considering a Camry, Accord, Passat, A3, or A4 - do yourself a favor and test drive a Legacy - youll be glad you did.

  • Some good & Lotsa bad - 2006 Subaru Legacy

Bought my Legacy w/85k mi on it less than a year ago. If youre looking to buy one, this is what you need to know: The GOOD: AWD offers great stability and makes the car fun to drive, good in snow but wont help you brake better in snow. THE BAD: The AWD system is delicate, no more than 2/32" difference in tire tread depth. Which means if you have 1 bad tire, youll need to get 4 new tires as I have already done. Ive had recurring Alignment issues as did others. Ive had Tire Air leaking issues, as did others. Engine hesitation/misfire seems to be normal even when bought new. Gas mileage is not impressive. Used to get 25-27. Now I get 20-24 since the misfire issue got worse. Never again!!

  • An Excellent Choice - 2006 Subaru Legacy

I did a lot of research about the Subaru Legacy before buying. I previously owned a Mazda 6, but I found that it did not perform well in snow or even rain covered roads. My experience with my Subaru Legacy has been excellent. I live in the country with a lot of hills and my Legacy is very dependable in snowy weather. The all wheel drive technology is very impressive and I would not even consider owning a front wheel drive car again. I would definitely recommend people examine the Subaru Legacy when considering a car purchase. It feels safe and secure while driving and holds the road well in all types of weather.

  • First new car - 2006 Subaru Legacy

This is my first NEW car. I saw it driving one day about 9 months ago and knew I had to get one. Its definitely a fun car to drive. The only bad thing I can think of is I have a squeaky drivers seat, but besides that I love it.

  • True Sports Sedan under 30K - 2006 Subaru Legacy
    By -

This is my first Subaru. It is a great handling and very quick sedan. A true sports sedan for thousands less than European competition. It is also not your everyday Accord/Camry. I shopped around comparing it to the Volvo S40, VW Passat, Acura TSX, Accord, Mazda 6, Mazda 3, and Hyundai Sonata. It offered the best combination of price, looks, and sportiness. It also offers typical Japanese reliability and ranked number one in crash tests (only car in class to have Gold seal). The 2.5 turbo engine was also voted as the best engine world wide in the 2.0 - 2.5 class.

  • Very fun to drive - 2006 Subaru Legacy

I love this car, it has character to it. I like that there are not many on the road. Its nice to be the only one in the neighborhood with one. This car gets a lot of lookers.

  • Fairly Impressed - 2006 Subaru Legacy

Weve had our 06 legacy for 2 years and were very happy with it, We have a few annoying rattles, and the interior scratches easy, otherwise it drives great and is very fun to drive!
