  • Excellent job but not flawless - 2005 Subaru Legacy

Everything good has already been said. Irreplaceable problems include horrible sensitivity on key (goes off while in your pocket), the stuttering phenomena (when accelerating from low rpms), inability to replace deck, clutch stink syndrome for beginning mileage. These are minor quibbles however which you can easily get used to and overlook for the brilliance of things like performance, reliability, sleeper looks, elegant interior, and of course the AWD 250 HP Turbo setup. Definitely worth considering as a competitor to 3 series, A4, S40, 9-3, TSX, TL, etc. To me the decision was made not after looking at it but driving it; in terms of performance and joy of driving TSX is only competition.

I bought this car after owning two Acuras (1998 CL and 2002 TL). I like quality, safe, reliable but high performance cars. This Subie has been the best car I have ever owned. It is also a very stealth mobile in that hardly anyone recognizes what this car is and what it can do. It gets decent mileage for what it is (a high performance car). It so fun to drive and is sure-footed in the snow and ice in Kansas City. It climbed up a serious incline on 14th Street in KC during a major ice snow without hesitation while all the other drivers were spinning their tires. My advice if you live in a snowy or icy area in the winter is to have two sets of tires (the stock Potenzas and good snow/ice tires).

After having this car for a little over a month, I can honestly say I enjoy driving again. After 8 years in a 4x4 truck and an SUV, I was looking for something, faster, safer and more fun to drive plus better mpg. My highest mileage so far was 25mpg during break-in which is an improvement but negated a bit by the required premium fuel. MPG drops if you get into the boost much but you will be grinning when you do. Auto transmission shifts very fast. Dont miss the manual. Car looks and handles great. Love the interior. Doors feel very solid. Whole car feels very well engineered. Really no competition at the price point. A grown up WRX.

  • WOW - 2005 Subaru Legacy

This is my 3rd Subaru, and is by far the best to date. I had a 96 outback, then a 2004 Outback 2.5 limited, but this car blows them away. The turbo kicks in quickly, and will give you the tell-tale neck jerk! The interior is such a beautiful hole poked tan leather, you want it at home. I was never a fan of blue cars, but the regal blue looks great with the 17" wheels and lo-pro tires. Huge sunroof! Buy one!!

Recently bought a 2005 GT Limited wagon (used w/10,000 miles) for the wife. She fell in love with the power during the test drive! Initially I was looking at an old Audi A4 wagon but that was wimpy compared to this. Also I love the new Legacy styling. The car is an awesome performer. I drive a Jag XJR and honestly I dont mind using the Subie one bit! The winter performance and added trunk space makes it even better. For less than $30,000 its the best wagon; highly recommended.

This car will pin you to your seat and pin a big fat grin to your face while doing it. Becareful, way to fun to drive, may get you in lots of trouble with the law. I love this car, sports demon, rocketship, whatever you want to call it!!! thats all I have to say.

  • Great Car. But some issues. - 2005 Subaru Legacy

My wife and I have owned this Scoobie for 4 years next month. While we love the car and truly love Subarus this car has had some annoying issues that the dealers cant seem to fix. Our car has been in three times for an annoying rattle in the dash. It apparently disappears when the service techs look at it (rolling eyes). The front brakes squeal when the ambient temperature is above 60 outside. Ive replaced everything and they still squeak. Oh, the clutch went out at 38000. My wife and I know how to drive stick well and do not abuse the car. But this one let go at a very young age. Kudos to Subaru though for not stiffing us with the whole $1100 bill.

  • Like a 944 - 2005 Subaru Legacy

This thing is not the most powerful in straight line acceleration - but its not bad. Where this car shines is in a few areas. It handles like a 944 - with the IRS and rear wheel drive, you can set the car up. Its comfortable - the wife likes it. Its a looker. Im glad I stopped by and looked at Subaru. I was going to get a Mazda.

  • Legacy - 2005 Subaru Legacy

I would rather have my Infiniti G35 back. The quality of the Legacy is not there. Also, I rather spend $30,000 on a car with quality and one that holds its value. I have had the Legacy since Nov. 2004 and it is a big negative $10,000. For those who love Subaru, good luck to you but I will never buy another.
