Overview & Reviews
For 2006, the Subaru Impreza benefits from a styling refresh, new trim levels and minor mechanical updates. On the outside, there's a new three-section grille and swoopier headlights, subtly restyled fenders for the sedan and new taillight clusters. New trims include a less expensive WRX TR sedan and an upscale WRX Limited sedan and wagon. The 2.5 RS trim level becomes the 2.5 i. Mechanically, the WRX's engine goes from 2.0 liters to 2.5 liters of displacement and now makes 230 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. Other Imprezas get a horsepower boost from last year's 165 hp to 173. The WRX line also gets aluminum front suspension links, standard 17-inch wheels, upgraded brakes with red four-piston calipers up front, and a quicker steering ratio.
- A stout 230 horsepower in the WRX, standard all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, excellent handling, tight construction.
- Tight rear quarters, slow downshifts from automatic transmission.

Awsome Handling Car - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By Nick - February 13 - 2:36 amI love my Subaru. It grips the road effortlessly no matter what the conditions are. It goes through snow with ease. Power is lacking from what I want. I have a non turbo and it feels like I have to push the car to get it up to speed on the on ramps, then again Im 18 and I can never go fast enough. If you dont have a lead foot its fine. The front seat is very comfy and still felt comfortable after a 3 hour drive. Back seats are okay and my 6 brother can fit. The interior has a basic design and look adequate. I have had only one problem with my Subaru. If forget to put on your gas cap your check engine light and cruse light will turn on. I went to the dealership and they took care of it.

Wow! - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By NewSubaruGuy - January 12 - 2:50 amWhat a great car! I bought one of the last 06 models and saved a few grand--I think it just lacks an iPod jack vs. the 07. Ive put over $4K on this car so far and Im really happy with this purchase. I dont even miss my Tacoma any more. Its quick, fun, amazing on wet roads (not too many of those in SoCal) and gets almost double the MPG of my truck. I cant believe how much car you get for this little money. Im 61" and I have more head room in this than I did in my Tacoma, FJ62 or Explorer. I bought this model out-the-door for less than the current MSRP, so NOTHING else in this price range could come close to what my Scuby has to offer.

Exhilarating Fun Drive! - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By Britannic - December 11 - 8:46 amI love turbocharged cars and for years was a loyal Saab owner, until GM diluted the brand. I wanted a turbocharged car that would stand out from the pack and deliver power, superb handling and excitement. The STi gives all of that and more; once I got used to the higher revving engine, this car is the most fun Ive ever had. Performance off the line and handling through twisty mountain roads is tremendous; the Sube feels like its on rails and Ive yet to notice any body roll. Being European, I love the WRXs stiff suspension, which combines with the super precise steering and available power to provide very nimble handling and a real fun drive! I dont miss my Saab 9-3 Viggen at all!

overall impression - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By road ninja - December 7 - 11:10 amVery fun to drive. Now put on 3,500 miles. Awesome road handling. Nice heavy duty suspension - handles off road bumps incredibly. Decent fuel mileage avg. 26mpg. Front bumper is too low - bottoms out if not careful. Exterior paint chips too easily - front plastic bumper absorbs road debris. Very jerky manual transmission when maintaining slow speed. 1st gear take off power is very weak, yet in all gears when passing 3500rpms acceleration picks up! Upgraded sound system is ok, not impressive; the stereo reception is not the best. Low fuel warning light is inconsistent. Some wind noise, overall love the vehicle am content. still worth the purchase - good price. AWD system is great!

Great buy! - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By Joey S. - November 26 - 11:06 amI bought this car after researching it for months. It lived up to what I had read. Great handling, outstanding performance, and excellent dependability. Plus the AWD and safety ratings made the WRX a great fit for me. I enjoy also being able to get a high performance vehicle in an automatic. Not all of us want to take it to the track every weekend, even though it might be capable of that, but for those of us who drive in the city, I enjoy the easy drive of the auto. Plus having performance, styling, and 4 doors is great.

2006 Subaru Impreza WRX TR - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By d - November 20 - 12:33 amThis is my daily driver and I couldnt ask for a better, more reliable vehicle. Dependable in all weather, fun to just cruise or get to where you need to be in a hurry. MPG are respectable depending on driving style and the car is very versatile. I own several motorcycles so I threw a hitch on and due to the great torque, tow them to the track with no issues, or attach a mountain bike hauler into the receiver and head into the mountains. This car continues to make me smile after more than two years of ownership!!

Amazing performance car for the money! - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By Chiketkd - November 17 - 8:03 amI test drove the 06 WRX TR as well as an 05 Legacy GT and 05 Mazda RX-8. The WRX was the hands-down winner due to its perfect blend of performance and utility. I have lots of room for my sons carseat in the back (latch hooks are a great convenience) and the trunk is extremely roomy when lugging his stuff around. Acceleration is unbelievable, the new 17" wheels & brakes are amazing and handling at the limit is very predictable. A switch to better tires than the stock all-seasons is a must. Im getting around 25mpg in mixed city/highway which is spectacular for a car capable of 0-60 in ~5.5secs and a 1/4 mile in the upper 13s. For a car costing around $24K, this is an amazing bargain!

Great car but Pain in the back - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By rjsps40 - November 5 - 10:53 pmI bought my car used in February with 52,000 miles on it. I havent driven it very far just around town/errands, etc. I took a 2 hour trip in the car and all the niceties in handling/reliability paled as the seat was so uncomfortable, a week later am still experiencing low back pain.

My Foul Weather Friend - 2006 Subaru Impreza
By James - November 4 - 6:53 amThere is no other comparable vehicle at the price. It cost around $21,000 at the time and is fairly loaded. All Wheel Drive (AWD) was not available in an American car, only trucks and SUVs, when I leased this vehicle. Every other AWD vehicle was well over $30,000. Although I drive conservatively, my favorite part of a trip is the twisty roads and exit ramps - because the car rides like it is on rails around turns. Heater works exceptional, even on the coldest Detroit, Cleveland and Pittsburgh days. 4 cylinder with plenty of power, even uphill and sips gas. Subaru builds quality small vehicles, not every manufacturer does that. Will probably purchase at the lease expiration.
