This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, the Subaru Impreza benefits from a styling refresh, new trim levels and minor mechanical updates. On the outside, there's a new three-section grille and swoopier headlights, subtly restyled fenders for the sedan and new taillight clusters. New trims include a less expensive WRX TR sedan and an upscale WRX Limited sedan and wagon. The 2.5 RS trim level becomes the 2.5 i. Mechanically, the WRX's engine goes from 2.0 liters to 2.5 liters of displacement and now makes 230 hp and 235 lb-ft of torque. Other Imprezas get a horsepower boost from last year's 165 hp to 173. The WRX line also gets aluminum front suspension links, standard 17-inch wheels, upgraded brakes with red four-piston calipers up front, and a quicker steering ratio.

Pros:
  • A stout 230 horsepower in the WRX, standard all-wheel drive, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, excellent handling, tight construction.
Cons:
  • Tight rear quarters, slow downshifts from automatic transmission.

  • Its a WINNER! - 2006 Subaru Impreza

I drive a LOT for work (40K per year), mostly in rural northwest Ohio. Summer driving is great, but the Subie really shines in the winter - and we have a lot of it here. I can honestly say that this is the BEST car Ive ever owned, bar none. Absolutely NO problems from day one, just regular service. Ive owned Nissan, VW, Toyota and Mazda - all were good, but not as perfect as this Impreza. Ive also had quite a number of people comment on how attractive the car is, with its Outback Sport two-tone paint, factory alloys and special trim. If you can find a well maintained one at resale, BUY IT!! You wont be disappointed!

  • amazing handling and great power - 2006 Subaru Impreza

I bought this car for my Dad. I wanted the AWD feature for him. But after I drove it to work one day. I fell in love with the car. It got incredible grip and agility. I put the smile on my face when I drive it. My house on a mountain and my drive is quite steep. Every time it snows my Nissan Maxima cant go up the driveway. My wife has an Audi A6; it can go up the driveway fine but it does not have the handling of the Impreza. Im going to get myself a WRX soon! I love this Impreza. I like the new project headlights.

  • Survival among the SUVs - 2006 Subaru Impreza

I needed a vehicle that would not be run off the single open lane on the NY Thruway during snowstorms. My FWD VW Golf was inadequate, and did not want to buy an SUV. Settled on the AWD Subaru Impreza and have not looked back. Good power with the stickshift; 25 mpg on daily commute; some 28 mpg racing up from NJ to Vermont. Had more occasion to drive through rain and mud than through snow this winter, though - handled all equally magnificently. A blast to drive, indeed! Good heater the few cold days we had. Accessories of foglights, trailer hitch, and ski rack have come in useful - most everything else already built in! Excellent websites exist for all kinds of Subaru-related info.

  • Great car for the $$$ - 2006 Subaru Impreza

After 800 miles back and forth over Snoqulmie Pass, I give this car an 8 in comfort and a 10 in handling. I am only 5 tall and the adjustable seat height really helps me feel taller and to see the road better. The car really keeps its traction in all conditions that I have driven across and I have seen rain, sleet, snow and sun already this winter. The car is very affordable and a fun/easy drive. There is a lot of power for going over the mountain and the anti-lock brakes work well when it is time for stopping too. The stock radio and speakers are not great and I do not like the overall feel of the cloth drivers seat.

  • Revisited Foul Weather Friend - 2006 Subaru Impreza

Since my last review, I have more miles on the car almost 85k and no major problems, just routine maintenance. One minor problem has been the front hood latch no catching, I loosened the screws, moved the latch mechanism up about 1-2millimeters and it works fine now. I did purchase the vehicle after the lease.

  • Never Been So Happy To Drive - 2006 Subaru Impreza

I have been without a vehicle since 2002. I purchased the STi last month and my expectations were satisfied and were even overwhelmed. Especially by the pure power when you hit the gas pedal, and the ruggedness insures me that my purchase will go a very long ways and time.

  • A Fantastic Road Car - 2006 Subaru Impreza
    By -

I have owed 3 Subaru WRXs. This time I got the STI. Fast, determined, predictable and so easy to drive. I could live in this car and drive it 24 hours a day. It safely takes me to and from work and the performance on the highway keeps me from harms way. All wheel drive is killer in the winter. Braking is amazing and handling superb. I am in love with my car.

  • Wonderful car - 2006 Subaru Impreza

I suggest if you ever get the opportunity to buy this car and it is within your grasp, do it. It is a really reliable car so fun to drive. Keep in mind however it can take a little getting used to if youre tall.
