This Year's Model Updates:

For 2004, all Imprezas sport revised front and rear fascias -- gone are the oddball circular headlamps in favor of a more mainstream wedge-shaped design. In addition, all models get upgraded suspension struts (to improve ride quality and steering response), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, a collapsible pedal system, revised gauges and a new stereo faceplate. The WRX and Outback Sport receive projector beam foglights. Inside, WRX models have new sport seats, a central tachometer and darker gray faux metal accents. The TS wagon, Outback Sport and RS sedan add an in-glass antenna, active front head restraints, central power door lock switch and multireflector halogen headlights. Further, the TS now has four-wheel disc brakes. The RS sedan's keyless entry system now has an audible confirmation feature, and keyless entry is now standard on the TS. Finally, the WRX sedan is now available with a Premium Package that includes a sunroof, trunk spoiler, heated mirrors, heated front seats and a wiper de-icer.

Pros:
  • A stout 227 horsepower in the WRX, all-wheel-drive grip, a variety of sedans and wagons to choose from, fun to drive.
Cons:
  • Often pricey when compared to its competition, tight rear quarters.

  • great car - 2004 Subaru Impreza

pulls hard with very little throttle, in any gear, at any revs above 2000rpm. Very sharp steering and handling. Grip is solid, but tires need to get more miles before I know exactly how much...

  • WRX falls short of both 2.5RS and STi - 2004 Subaru Impreza

The WRX is a very poor day-to-day performer. If you simply want a smooth- driving AWD car, get the 2.5RS. If you want the AWD and the POWER, get the WRX STi. In poor weather any Impreza model is a blast to drive with the AWD system. However you will get extremely frustrated by the lack of responsiveness in the WRX 2L turbo engine. Crusing in normal traffic, you literally have to wait a second and a half after going WOT before the ECU allows the turbo to make full boost and the car gets moving like expected. At any rpm below 3K the car cannot get out of its own way. Also, first gear boost is limited to a measly 7psi, so off-the- line starts are not as quick as you are led to believe.

  • Street Shredder - 2004 Subaru Impreza

On the whole, this car kicks some serious butt! The only issue I have with it is that there isnt any real room. My 3 year old son takes up a lot of space in the back with his car seat, so the driver really cant be that big of a person. Were moving from a 98 KIA Sportage. That being said, there are several MILLION pluses on the Subarus side. The only minus I can think of is the roominess. The Sportage had a little more room in the front and in the back and more head room as well. Our Subaru gives you so much confidence while driving. No matter what Ive put it through so far, it seems as if it knows what Im about to do before I do.

  • Best AWD For The Money - 2004 Subaru Impreza

After researching AWD wagons under $21,000, We decided on this car.It has more than lived up to our expectations. With more than adequate power(165HP)and a smooth 5sp transmission, it handles mountain roads under all conditions(wet or Dry). The breaks are excellent and its handling is responsive. With the seats down,it has 61 cu.ft. of cargo room. And with the top rack it provided plenty of space for camping gear. Additionally, we averaged 27.5mpg on the trip to Yosemite.

  • fun drive for low $$$ - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Traded Lexus RX300 for WRX & feel 20 yrs younger. Very fun w ample storage for activities. 9500 mi. Took time to learn power characteristics (weak low end). Rough throttle tip-in w somewhat lumpy power band. Superb traction & AWD system. Very tossable w some understeer (sedans have bigger rear sway bar than wagons). Likes being driven aggressively. Easily squirts though traffic. Stable & relatively quiet hiway cruiser (w16s, 17s noisier, rougher ride based on test drive). Some rattles but curable. Solid chassis. Stereo upgrade barely acceptable. Better mileage than expected. Exceptional paint. Would buy again. Great dealer experience.

  • First Subaru, but likely not my last! - 2004 Subaru Impreza

After my VW GTI gave up the ghost, it was time to look for a suitable replacement. Having had VWs for so long, I looked around and test drove the much written about WRX, in wagon form. What a fun car. Strong acceleration and handling. AWD. Hatchback versatility. Good fuel economy. Now after some 9,000 miles in 6 months that included hot summer trips, great fall getaway drives and snowy commutes, I can say "what a great car!" My only true complaint about the car, which has been voiced in other forums, is the decidedly WEAK A/C. The car just never seems cold enough inside on 85-95 degree days.

  • Great Car - Sunroof= Still Good car - 2004 Subaru Impreza

Great car, nicely manufactured and very fast. I love the braking and the speed put into this car, easily a good buy.

  • BUY ONE NOW! - 2004 Subaru Impreza
    By -

I have had many so-called sports cars and this is by far and away the best car for the money. The price performance ratio is solidly in this cars favor as it is as fast as many cars that are twice the price. Peerless handling in all weather conditions inspires complete confidence. If you are a new driver, however, this is NOT the car for you. It would be for someone who is experienced enough to use it to its full potential. I have had no problems with the car at all, and it is just a rocket sled. Dont look for big MPG numbers, especially if driven in anger. My only other advice: Buy one NOW!

  • Fun work days and weekends - 2004 Subaru Impreza

I use the WRX Wagon for work and pleasure. I truly have to haul "stuff" (wheels) and fold the rear seats down for that. In comparison to a full grown station wagon or truck it is 10 times more fun to drive. I enjoy my "work" becuse of it. Yes, I am looking forward to every haul.
