This Year's Model Updates:

The 2006 Scion xB receives a new steering wheel with audio controls, and the Pioneer audio system has a new head unit design and remote mini-jack port for portable music sources. Additionally, the xB wagon offers dedicated Apple iPod connectivity, which delivers iPod display information and allows unit control and recharging through the audio system. In other news, the xB's horsepower rating drops from 108 to 103 due to new SAE testing procedures.

Pros:
  • Massive interior for its size, unusual mini-truck styling, long list of standard equipment, standard stability control, handles well for a budget-priced vehicle.

  • Box full of fun - 2006 Scion XB

Like everyone else before I owned my xB I used to say, "that has got to be the ugliest car on the road." But then when I came into the market to purchase a vehicle the more the xB grew on me. One test drive is all it took! I was amazed at how much room there was on the inside of the car, Im a DJ so I need space to haul my equipment around. Another thing that impressed me was the low end pick up of the 1.5L. I have a 5-speed manual and have no problem leaving people at stoplights to make quick lane changes when needed. All in all, Im definitely glad I bought the xB its definitely a "Box full of fun".

Bought the box just before Christmas 05, have 35k on it as of Apr 07. Had the dealership add carpet, arm rest, bumper tread, and cruise when new, purchased tires and rims from Tire Rack when I got it home. Added rear cargo light, hitch, side window visors, and map lights soon after. Been a great vehicle, averaging 32 mpg mixed driving, 34 hwy empty at 75 mph, and 27 or so hwy pulling a trailer with my motorcycle of jet-ski. My parents liked it so much they bought one as well.

  • Best deal for the dollar! - 2006 Scion XB

Before purchasing my Scion xB I researched and test drove many automobiles (Saturn ION, Honda Civic, VW Beetle, etc.). I travel frequently with my job and was searching for a good looking, reliable car with great fuel economy. I must admit my Scion xB has exceeded all my expectations. Because Scion let me build my xB I got everything I wanted in a car for less than $17,500. Gas mileage: I currently get 29 mpg in town and 32 mpg on highway. Despite the fact the xB has a 1.5 litre engine it cruises comfortably at 75-85 mph. The interior room in this car is huge. Rear seats fold for extra storage space. Car has amazing head/leg room as well. I have friends over 6 feet tall who fit comfortably.

  • Frown Turned to Grin After Test Drive. - 2006 Scion XB

I frowned at first sight of an xB. My salesmen immediately offered a test drive. The rest is history. I had driven all the rest (Yaris, Fit, Civic, Corrola, etc.). The xB was simply the best! I love the ease of entry/exit, high seating position, excellent visibility, ample leg/headroom (I’m 6’5” with a 37” inseam), firm ride, great handling, better than expected gas mileage (approximately 34 combined city/highway) and sound options. This cas has turned my 45 mile commute (one-way) from a chore to a pleasure. As others have mentioned, the car’s appearance elicits a lot of comment and opinion. People either love it or hate it. As a former skeptic myself, I simply say “drive one."

  • Tardis (bigger inside than outside) - 2006 Scion XB

The Scion xB is comfortable, practical, safe, reliable, and a good value. Get in another car afterwards and you feel cramped. Its fuel economy about what Edmunds statistics predict. (A hybrid version would be good.)

  • GREAT CAR... - 2006 Scion XB
    By -

I have long been a Toyota fan and loved this little "xbox" from the get go. I purchased mine a year ago and I have really enjoyed it. I am a big guy and I find that most cars are uncomfortable and cramped. Not so with this one!!! I can sit in the front or back and have plenty of head and leg room. I work as a REALTOR and all of my clients are surprised by the roominess of my xB. Mine has the TRD cold air intake and exhaust, so I have improved horsepower and gas mileage. I average about 30 in town and I have gotten 38 on the highway, while loaded with 4 people, and luggage, driving at 80 mph. This car had my full approval and gets a great big thumbs up!!!

  • I love this car! - 2006 Scion XB

This is actually the second xB that I have owned! I havent had any problems from this car. I totaled the first xB that I owned, and walked away (from a crash that I shouldnt have) without a scratch. With this xB, I have been hit in the rear, and though the dent was big, there were not injuries. Like most people, I wasnt to fond of the car, and then I got behind the wheel. I LOVED it. My first xB was a manual, and had a little more "get up and go," but I love my automatic for convenience.

  • Possibly the Best Car Ever Made - 2006 Scion XB
    By -

I bought the Xbox brand new in 2007 and love it. So far Ive put 40k miles on it and have no mechanical issues with it. People still comment about its styling and when they get in it they are amazed at the amount of legroom in both the front and back. I dont know how they did it, but I swear this thing is bigger on the inside than the outside. It still cracks me up when I pull into a parking spot and the thing only fills up about half the spot.

  • So Its not what I thought It would be - 2006 Scion XB
    By -

I bought it from the dealership used, and it was upgraded with Limo Tint, and nice 18 inch rims and tires. Well, I dont know if the problems I have had with the car are the manufacturers fault, or maybe the fact that I have 18 wheels on a car that normally has 14.But, the ride is NOT smooth at all. Its insanely bumpy at times, especially living in Southern California, and having pot holes everywhere. There have been many MANY times Ive muted my sound because I thought for sure I ran someone/something over because its so loud. Also, the MPG is a lot lower then I thought it would be, I get about 220-250 miles per tank.
