This Year's Model Updates:

Nissan's popular Xterra SUV receives a variety of updates for the 2002 model year. Front-end styling is updated, and the bulged hood hides a newly optional supercharged V6. Inside, there are revised gauges, seat fabrics, climate controls, two additional power points and a bigger glovebox. Also standard are dual-stage front airbags, rear child-seat anchors, variable intermittent front windshield wipers, a rear window wiper and a foot-operated parking brake. In terms of options, a new in-dash six-disc CD changer is available on XE Xterras and standard on SE models. Nissan has also made the sunroof optional instead of standard. Finally, as a tribute to dedicated Xterra owners, an Enthusiast Package is available only on XE V6 four-wheel-drive models. It includes ceiling tie clamps, a first aid kit, a tilt steering wheel, foglights, front tow hooks, map lights, a limited-slip differential, manually locking hubs and rubber floor mats.

Pros:
  • Rugged looks and the off-road capability to match, lots of room inside.
Cons:
  • Uncomfortable front seats, poor on-road ride and steering, four-cylinder and normally aspirated V6 lack power.

The perfect vehicle for me, its great on the beach, in the mud, or on the rough high terrain of the mountains. No matter where you are driving, it delivers the goods, comfort, quality, and durability. Now, here comes the best part, I recently totaled it while coming home from work one late evening. I hit a ditch head on at 50 mph, shortly after hitting a tree, and also flipped front over back. When the SUV finally came to a rolling stop on the roof, I unbuckled my seat belt and climbed out. I suffered only mild back pain from the accident. The frame and build of the Xterra saved my life. Soon after I bought a 2003 model, and I love it just as much as my original. - Thanks Nissan!

  • Inexpensive reliablility w/ personality - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I bought my 4x4 XE Xterra used in April 2002 w/13,000 miles on it, it had been a rental car. I now have over 90k miles and the truck is running solid, the engine and transmission feel tight and it still looks great. Ive hauled a 3500 lb trailer about 3k miles. I havent had a single problem with this truck. In my opinion the Xterra is the Civic of SUVs... its not the quickest or most swank but it holds its own especially for the price.

I bought the X because the price point was very attractive to me. I didnt want to spend 30k on an SUV that I intended to take off road. I have been in the mud, sand and dirt and this truck out preformed my friends Mitsu Montero and a Toyota Tacoma..both cost considerable more...I didnt get the supercharger but it would be nice to have, dont know if its worth the xtra dough....

This truck is a looker. It has more to it than plin rugged looks. Its Xtreamely capable off the road. It has take me to the trails personality. It has the Nissan reliability and the proven and tested old Pathy engine.

100% reliable, drives "tight" with great handling (especially compared to "American style" SUVs and autos). Previously owned a German sedan, and have not been disappointed by the Xterra handling despite the fact its twice as large! Great in snow, great in sun. Ive had mine for 2 years and love it as much today as when I bought it. Repairs and problems are non- existent! Only requirement is normal maintenance--oil changes, etc.

  • BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I test drive many vehicles before I purchase. I am in no way an impulse buyer. This is one of the fun to drive SUVs, which provides the most utility for your dollar. Plenty of room in the back. 4 whel drive is superb. Recently, we had 24" of snow fall in my area. This SUV cut through the snow like a hot nife through butter. No problem what so ever. Highly recommended.

  • Xterra-Best buy in class of its own. - 2002 Nissan Xterra

Xterra is HANDS DOWN the best buy for the money. If you complain about the ride, buy a car, its not an SUV if its not built on a truck frame. The more I researched this vehicle the more it stood out, if youre looking for an SUV thats affordable and can perform like a true SUV this is it. Look at the numbers, the X stands up to many others that cost a lot more. It does ride like a truck, but still is smooth. The CRV, RAV4, Escape, Tribute,-all big cars and compared with the X often, technically, they arent in the same class with Xterra. Xterra gives a no BS, skip the leather and wood trim dash answer to the affordable & highly capable SUV.

My 2000 Xterra was so much fun and so reliable that it made it easy for us to step up and trade it in for a new SC Xterra. While we looked at other more expensive suvs we opted for what we felt was imo obviously the best deal, and for the vehicle that would most facilitate our active lifestyle and our adventurous spirit.

  • Love My Hot Lava - 2002 Nissan Xterra
    By -

When looking for a 4x4 I saw this Xterra siting on the used car lot and fell in love. I have liked the body style since they first came out. Even thought i love the yellow and silver I opt for what they call Molten Lava. I nicknamed her Hot Lava. It was the only car I test drove or even looked at and bought her that night. I traded in a 1999 Cavalier Z24 which I loved but Hot Lava is slowly winning over my heart. I like all the room but hate the lack of power when passing or taking off from a stand still the one thing I do miss from my Z24. Overall Im happy with my choice and hope to have many good years together.

  • A real SUV on todays market - 2002 Nissan Xterra

I felt in love with this SUV when I first saw it. The style is just so cool. There are no many SUV on todays market. First of all, let me say this, to me there is no such thing as a luxury SUV. A SUV is a SUV. A Sport Utility Vehile to handle the tasks that you want to do. . That is why I like the Xterra. No leather seat and those luxurious nonsense. A true SUV!
