Overview & Reviews
Nissan's popular Xterra SUV receives a variety of updates for the 2002 model year. Front-end styling is updated, and the bulged hood hides a newly optional supercharged V6. Inside, there are revised gauges, seat fabrics, climate controls, two additional power points and a bigger glovebox. Also standard are dual-stage front airbags, rear child-seat anchors, variable intermittent front windshield wipers, a rear window wiper and a foot-operated parking brake. In terms of options, a new in-dash six-disc CD changer is available on XE Xterras and standard on SE models. Nissan has also made the sunroof optional instead of standard. Finally, as a tribute to dedicated Xterra owners, an Enthusiast Package is available only on XE V6 four-wheel-drive models. It includes ceiling tie clamps, a first aid kit, a tilt steering wheel, foglights, front tow hooks, map lights, a limited-slip differential, manually locking hubs and rubber floor mats.
- Rugged looks and the off-road capability to match, lots of room inside.
- Uncomfortable front seats, poor on-road ride and steering, four-cylinder and normally aspirated V6 lack power.

No Lemons Here - 2002 Nissan Xterra
By LISSANNE - October 17 - 4:03 amAt least, not from the beautifully designed Nissan Xterra that I purchased last year. I only wish I could say the same for the dealership that I bought it from. I financed the truck in June 2004 from I am still having problems with my dealership today. After my monthly payment being raised three times and the harrassing phone calls at work for more money I was almost fed up enough to just give up. All it takes though is a short drive in Xterra and the world is a much brighter and more exciting place. So I urge yall to proceed w/caution when it comes to Nissan dealers.

Xterra, safe, reliable TRUCK - 2002 Nissan Xterra
By Bobmazda - August 7 - 10:00 amAs with many trucks the consideration of height and roll over has to be considered. I gave the Xterra the hard test and it passed as well as did well in ratings. Driver error, drivers thinking they have a MAC truck to push others around and maneuver in traffic like a Miata ISNT the Xterra. Drive carefully and youre fine! Having said that, the Xterra is awesome....DONT BUY A MAZDA TRIBUTE, I OWNED A 2001 LEMON LAW JUNK.

Fun Truck - 2002 Nissan Xterra
By Taya - June 13 - 8:16 pmI love my Xterra but it is a truck as far as Im concerned. Slips on ice and snow but I think that would be better with more weight in the back as you would do with a pick-up truck. The 4WD gets me through anything the South Dakota weather can throw my way. Not really a good family vehicle because its too tall for small kids to get in and out of and I find myself missing a 3rd row of seats in order to carry their freinds around in.

Great & enjoyable car - 2002 Nissan Xterra
By B. Murali - April 21 - 11:46 pmAfter a lot of reserach we went in for this car. It has been a wonderful experience driving to various corners of US and in all different terrains. The reliability has been extraordinary and the drive was always a pleasure. Fairly low maintenance and running on regular unleaded have been great helps.

My X - 2002 Nissan Xterra
By lboughie - December 24 - 10:00 amThis is a great all round "real" SUV. "REAL" as in built on a truck design and not a car or car-like desing like the other mini-suvs out there. Fun to drive and even more enjoyable when shifting into 4x4 and putting the X to good use.

XTERRA - 2002 Nissan Xterra
By Edmundo - October 6 - 10:00 amThis is my second XTERRA, and it is absolutely the finest SUV I have driven. I very much enjoy Nissan reliabity, styling, and performance. Two exceptional characteristics of my XTERRA are the automatic transmission and computerized, road sensing, braking system.
