This Year's Model Updates:

After its debut last year, the Nissan Versa receives only minor equipment revisions for 2008. The SL sedan can now be equipped with a rear spoiler and a lower body kit, while cruise control is a new option on base S models.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior with an adult-friendly backseat, comfortable ride, available with many useful convenience features.
Cons:
  • Engine gets noisy at high rpm, less than athletic handling and braking capabilities, inconsistent build quality.

Overall, I have been very happy with the car. It handles well, is easy to drive and has a lot of interior room and comfort. Good value too. The one caveat is that my transmission failed after 40,000. It was replaced under warranty with no problems. I am not sure how common this is or if I was just unlucky. Since the replacement transmission was installed the car has run great. The gas mileage estimates are not as high as stated by Nissan.

The CVT is fun to drive and the car itself handles very well.

When the lease was up on our Volvo XC90, we started to search for a replacement vehicle with at least similar interior comfort, including wide seats and leg room, plus a smooth and quiet ride. Surprisingly, we found it in our 2008 Nissan Versa S. Sometimes I forget that I am not driving the Volvo XC90 anymore. Mileage wise I get from 25 to 29 mpg.

Recently bought my Versa SL preowned with 5000 miles on it. Prior to buying the car I drove similar cars from Toyota, Hyundai, Honda, VW, Ford. The thing that sets the Versa apart from these other cars is the super low interior noise level and seamless transmission shifting provided by the CVT. I also noticed a lower level of engine vibration or "buzziness" thats sometimes transmitted through the accelerator pedal or steering wheel of 4 cylinder cars. The car has a much more solid feel to it than the Ford Focus. The doors sound solid when they are closed, you can tell the car is put together well. As back seats go, this car has a very roomy rear seating area for a small car. Nice little car!

  • A Lot Of Bang For Your Buck - 2008 Nissan Versa

Bought the car to get some relief from Tahoe gas mileage while running children to and from school and sporting events. I looked around Edmunds info and went to several dealerships looking at the Honda Fit, several Toyotas, and the Nissan Versa hatchback and sedan. After considering the reviews, the price, the safety ratings, and getting inside some of these tiny contraptions, I decided the Versa sedan fit my needs best and the needs of my family, including one new learners permit driver. So the Tahoe spends most of its life in the garage, while we buzz around on the Versa. I couldnt be happier with the overall quality, ride, ROOM, and fuel economy. Great little car, for not many bucks.

  • My 1st Car=Amazing 2nd review(3 years) - 2008 Nissan Versa

I wrote a review that I previously posted. Having had my car for about 3 years, with about 52,500 miles driven in the pot-hole, brake-fast city of NY to long distance road-trips to the suburbs and countryness of FL back & forth I can say this car is a trooper! Average gas mileage as advertised. Low maintenance, cause I take good care of my car. The only thing I would complain about is the aerodynamics, but other than that, all is still well! :)

  • So far so good - 2008 Nissan Versa

Purchased the car in 4/08. We were an all V8 family and have adjusted well to the 1.8L. The car is fun to drive and carts our group of 4-5 around effortlessly, w/the AC on. Power is good, although engine gets a bit "wound up" on heavy acceleration. Engine calms down when you get to freeway speed. Getting 20-28 MPG combined (I have a heavy foot). Interior space is very good, even for those tall people riding in the back. Sport Package dressed up the car nice. Well built and tight. Held up well to an 18 wheeler slamming into the drivers side on the freeway. We are very satisfied thus far. Compared to the other econo-models out there, much more car for the $$. Would recommend.

  • Perfect for 47,000 then problems - 2008 Nissan Versa

Car really performs great in the hills. Fun to drive and good ride for a compact. Gas mileage in hot weather is 34 mpg. No problems at all until 45,000 miles, then the fuel pressure regulator started leaking and resulted in hard starting. Now at 48,000 miles the ABS warning light is on and I have been told the repair could be over $2,000. The ABS option was only a fraction of that. Makes you wonder what may come next. Drove my last 2 LeSabres and Silverado for a total of 275,000miles with no failures.

  • Wife thinks its cute! - 2008 Nissan Versa

Good around town runabout. Performance is good for this class of car. The 4 speed auto is to be desired. Lots of foot well space for my size 13s to shift a manual (if I had gotten it). The wife cannot drive stick so auto it is! Not much room for groceries but it does the job for a younger couple starting out. Over 4000rpm the engine gets obnoxious but cruises great in top gear at 2450rpm @60mph. Very quiet inside, not much wind noise etc. Its a bit sloppy on the road in high winds, but descent in the snow. Why is there no temperature gauge?? Come on Nissan! Alternator and most major parts are easily replaceable under the hood for those who plan to own for a long time!

  • 99% happy with my Nissian Versa - 2008 Nissan Versa
    By -

I have drove my versa 39,000 with know problems at all. I change the oil every 4000 miles and put gas into it and could not be more happy. I live in Denver co and go into the mountains all the time and my versa has lots of power for a 4cycl motor and and goes up and down the mountains with know problems at all. The versa handles well in the snow also. When parking the car it is very easy. I would buy a versa again.
