This Year's Model Updates:

After a model-year hiatus, the 2009 Nissan Murano returns fully redesigned. Given its popularity, styling changes are kept evolutionary, while an upgraded cabin and key mechanical refinements further its appeal.

Pros:
  • Responsive powertrain, sporty handling and smooth ride, luxurious cabin in LE trim.
Cons:
  • Cargo space behind second row a few cubes shy of some rivals, compromised rear visibility.

  • Dissatisfied 2009 Murano customer - 2009 Nissan Murano

Push start flaw on the 2009 LE AWD Murano “Buyer be aware” although the 2009 LE AWD Murano is widely advertised all over in commercials, magazines and internet ads there is a major flaw with this vehicle. There are intermittent problems with the push start feature when the intelligent key is used or not used. During the first two weeks after purchasing my SUV I had problems with the push start where my car completely stalled. Neither the push start nor the key would work. The dealership has been unable to replicate the problem. I have decided to return my SUV for another model without the bells and whistles until Nissan perfects the technology behind the push start feature.

  • Very Disappointed - 2009 Nissan Murano

I was smitten with the Muranos good looks and equally good reputation. It hasnt lived up to my expectations. There is a rattling at the back of the vehicle (I think its the liftgate) that the dealer hasnt been able to fix in two tries. There is also a buzzing sound that comes from the center control stack of instruments. This makes my new car a constant source of annoyance. There was an electrical problem with a window that was fixed on my first repair visit. Id do anything to get out from under this car but it would be too expensive to do. Im also not pleased with my mileage, just barely 18 mpg for hiway and city driving (about 50-50). Dont get suckered in by the sharp looks!

  • Would not own another Nissan - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

I bought a 2009 LE on 4-1-09 and sold it on 5-15-08 I had a jerking/vibration at speed of 40 - 60 and they were giving me the run around that it was the gas. They wanted me to run 4 tanks for 93 octane this would fix the problem. Well it made NO difference. If you are thinking about buying one of these I would make sure that you do a hell of a good test drive, overnight drive at different speeds and on different roads. Selling it was the best thing for me to do to deal with it!

  • Drive train failures. CVT and Xfer case issues. Dont buy Nissan! No Manufacturer Support! - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

Its too bad Nissan wont stand behind THIER product. They did replace the CVT (now that they extended the factory warranty to 10yr/120K) but our transfer case was leaking too (as so many of them have) and we were told it couldnt be rebuilt since it was one that had been made with a bad part! What floored me was we got NO help from Nissan at all with the cost of the replacement part. I even contacted the executive offices in TN. $3K later, I still have a metallic rattle when the CVT is trying to kick out of the first "gear" and after reading about how many others had the same issue, I am VERY worried I will have to replace both drive train components again if we hang on to the car.

  • Rattles, Rattles, Rattles - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

I purchased this vehicle over a year ago. I have had horrible problems with rattles. On the left front of my dash to the left of the steering wheel, in the center council near the gear shift, on the right dash and the worst one is in the far front where the dash meets the windshield. It is very frustrating, because I have had my vehicle in for rattles several times and they cannot figure the far front dash rattle. My girlfriend has the exact same murano and hers just started with the same rattle at 20,000 miles. I thought they fixed it, only it came back after 3 days. I have read many sites where others are having the same problem. Breaks squeak bad

  • Uncomfortable Road Trip - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

I purchased this vehicle 11/08. I have owned 3 other Nissan vehicles and I have enjoyed driving them. The 2009 Murano has been a huge disappointment. I recently took this vehicle on a 6 hour road trip and I was actually in pain when I arrived at my destination. The drivers seat is rock hard and has very little leg and back support. If you have leg and back problems, please think twice before purchasing this vehicle.

  • Blown head gasket at 20,000 - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

The head gasket went with just under 20,000 miles. That is something that should last 200,000 miles. Nissan village fixed it under warranty and 2 days later it had to be towed in because almost all the oil leaked out all over my new garage floor because one of the gaskets was improperly installed. Then it had to go back in again because of check engine light. It was the oxygen sensor. This is my fourth Nissan and I will never buy another.

  • No Mo Murano - 2009 Nissan Murano

The Murano is a good looking vehicle, and really nice to drive. The seats are comfortable and the drivers compartment fits like a glove. Everything you need to control the car and comforts is within easy reach. I always enjoy driving it.

  • Disappointment for a High Dollar Vehicle - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

Ive owned the Murano LE for approximately 26 months and have not had any major problems with it except maintenance. Replacement of the air filter was $75.00 and I could not believe this cost. Tires only lasted 14,500 miles and I could not find replacement 20 inch tires for it. Dealer price for these tires was $350.00 each. Lots of intermittent electrical problems with the tail gate being found open in the morning when I came out of the house, my radio and almost all of my other electronic devices would die on occasion and then come back. Dealer could not find anything. Goes fine in up to 4 inches of snow but after that nothing. Being traded in shortly on an american vehicle.

  • My disappointments - 2009 Nissan Murano
    By -

Problems with leaking head gaskets, leaking transfer case (twice repaired), defective engine mounts and seat positioning number setting that never holds seem to be common with Murano 2009 owners and we are no exception. At 70,000 miles the car is showing all the signs of a Lemon. Up until now we were strong supporters of the Nissan line, but when the manufacturer does not stand behind a chronic problem I think its time to look at other manufacturers for better warranties and better quality
