This Year's Model Updates:

Improved manual transmission shift feel (thanks to a shorter shift stroke), black-tone brake calipers, additional chrome accents inside and new softer leather upholstery. Auto-dimming outside mirrors are now available, and a new 12-volt power point resides at the base of the center stack.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • So-so center stack ergonomics, premium price without the premium nameplate.

  • Lots of Power - 2005 Nissan Maxima

After 8 months of driving this car i have to say i don`t like it as much as i did when i first bought it,to many annoying things for example the wipers are terrible in the winter, the cd player died in week one, there are annoying squeaks and rattles from the dash area something you shouldn`t have in a car of this caliber. To much wind noise at highway speed i am constantly checking to see if a door is open.I like to drive with my front window open a crack not with this car though the water will pour in. There is also a terrible vibration in the steering wheel at highway speeds my dealer eventually got this fixed. The Honda Accord is a much better car and less money to bad it is so Blah.

  • Very unhappy - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I have had my maxima for quite some time now and Im just experiencing the problems. I now have to replace my transmission, which seems to be a common problem with this car. And the transmission is very expensive. We are trying to find a cheaper route than the 4,000 price the transmission company is charging. But before the transmission I didnt have any problems. I think its quite unfair that EVERYONE is having the same problem with their car. That means its a problem in the manufacturing of this vehicle..And to think I was going to consider getting another maxima! I dont think so! not a good buy!

  • GET THE MAX - 2005 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I bought the 05 having owned a 92 which was given to me, then passed to my cousin, and still performs well under my sisters ownership. The 2005 has classic maxima torque and acceleration. The maxima will accelerate as fast as you can put your foot down on the pedal. It corners and responds well. The exterior design turns heads. There is limited visibility out the back window and the controls on the steering wheel should have been illuminated for night driving. Otherwise im very happy with it. Its the most fun car to drive that ive had yet.

Bought the car second hand, just love it!!. Have had no troubles with it other than new rotors which is normal. The Maxima is SO QUICK off the line and can surprise Mustangs and other muscle cars. Shes good on gas too. LOVE IT!!

  • Couldnt Be Happier - 2005 Nissan Maxima

The reputation of Nissans engines are what drew me to the make. I originally set out for a Pathfinder, but after driving the Maxima about 2 inches, I was sold. The Maxima is the perfect blend of family sedan and sports feel/performance for me. I satisfy my familys needs without having to resort to a minivan or a pedestrian sedan. I love it.

  • Bang for the buck - 2005 Nissan Maxima

Best bang for the buck. I chose the SL over the Acura TL. The only things I gave up were better turning radius, blue tooth, and better cornering (I didnt get the vehicle stability system). However, low end torque is much better (watch the torque steer), and the amenities are much better as well. An example of this is the steering wheel audio control. Acura has the typical volume up/down, preset/track button. Nissan has a far more practical set-up w/ power on/off, mode (i.e. change btwn CD and the 18 presets), volume up/down and track up/down. Dont know why I need two subs, but the 320 watt Bose system rocks. Love auto-dim mirrors (three), ability to link seat/mirror set to keyfob.

  • Great Car - 2005 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I bought this car in April 05 and have put around 2000 miles of mixed highway and residential driving. I am getting around 25 MPG combined which I am satisfied with. The V6 engine is responsive, acceleration is always there when you need it. 80 MPH at the end of a highway entrance ramp is way too easy to accomplish. The car is very roomy. I am 6-1", 220 lb and I fit comfortably in the drivers seat and also in the backseat with plenty of leg room. The handling is great. The Maxima is rock solid and smooth on the highway, but its great on curvy back roads too. We have gotten numerous compliments on the car from family, friends, and strangers. Great car!

  • Believe the hype - 2005 Nissan Maxima

I bought a used 05 Max SE in July, black on black with 20,000 miles. For the money I paid, this car has really impressed me. Mine is black with black leather and the 18" chrome wheel package; with aftermarket window tints it looks awesome. Ive gotten tons of compliments on its exterior looks. My complaints with the car are the same as others..wide turning radius, some cheaper-looking interior plastic, etc. However, the car has much more upside than downside. Awesome acceleration, good handling for a car its size, great sound system, and better than expected fuel economy. Overall, a solid option for those looking for a blend of performance, practicality, and style.

  • THE BEST YET" - 2005 Nissan Maxima
    By -

I have had many cars in my life and the Maxama that I own now a 2005 Is the best car that I have owned yet. The performance is fabulous. The power is unbelievable and the outside design is the most beautiful car that I have owned Yet. A few times that I was in bumper to bumper traffic, I had some people roll down their windows and motion to me and then tell me how beautiful the car is. Nissan hit a home run with the Maxama and I will buy another one in a heart beat. Thank You Nissan. George Allen Eiring

Very disappointed with my first Maxima, expected much more. Quality is lacking. Overall, nice looks, but mediocre performance and rough drivetrain.
