This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

Be sure to test drive the car you purchase. I made the mistake of test driving one vehicle and during the paper signing process I decided to switch to a different color car. I did not test drive the new choice as I assumed the car would ride the same as the one I had already driven. I was wrong...the steering wheel shook and vibrated mainly between 45 and 65 mph. I took the car back 4 times and was given the run around. The dealership said they didnt know how to fix the problem so they kept balancing the tires. I went back and forth with Nissan consumer affairs and finally received a new set of tires that appear to have fixed the problem. Other than

I bought this car new in white diamond pearl with heated seats, Bose 6cd changer, sunroof, etc. This car made a rattling noise since about 30,000mi. Dealer claimed they couldnt hear it as always. Rear struts gone< 30,000 mi, tires worn @ 18,000mi despite rotating every 4,000 mi w/oil change. Gas mileage sucked until I got 100,000mi.then 25mpg. The Bose speakers went out and radio/ 6cd changer failed around 24,000 mi n was replaced with a so- called new 1. At $32,000, I expected better quality.warranty out 110,000mi had 2 replace another radio aftermkt now, tune up @$750, front and rear hub n barrens over $1200. New front struts @ $500.New tires every year at $700 set.no throttle now... Saddd

I got my SE with Elite package 10 days ago. I really like the design from the sleek exterior to the rocket ship interior. My father-in-laws observation is how futuristic in design it looks. It is fun to drive, and the car tends to want to drive faster than legal speeds and I constantly find myslf having to slow down. I have owned 3 other Nissans and an Infiniti so Nissan continues to impress me. Highly recommended!

Nice, solid car killed by cheap tricks in attemps to keep costs down. Next time will get Acura 3.2TL or like For this sticker price VDC ( taking on account horrible steer tork) MUST BE standard - hey, NISSAN - if you screwed something up - be honest - PAY FOR IT! Cheapest insterior materials Ive ever seen for this price! Suggested Improvements "SKYVIEW" made only to force pay more for "regular" sunroof - cheap trick Options - they put together to make you pay for the stuff you dont want! Warranty period - comeon guys - you (NISSAn) dont trust your car?

Well I have to say my experience has been very good with my Max. I have only had 2 recalls (both done at the same time) and no other issues. Im up in age so Im not incline to put this car through its paces, but I have had to step on it hard sometimes to avoid other drivers. The car really accelerates. It is way more safe than my last vehicle in this manner. I have confidence to pull out in traffic and know I can pull away from approaching cars.

My husband and I had our 04 Nissan Maxima for 11 months & 23 days. We bought our Max in Sept.03 we traded it in Sept.04. The first time we had a problem it was 35 degrees outside. Max had problems starting. The colder it got the more it would not start at all. I had about 15 mornings when the veh would not start at all. I missed 1.5 hrs of work one day. & it was 15 degrees I spoke w/dealer from where we purchased Max & they bring it in, but could not find anything wrong w/it. We started having quality issues in Apr04 grill began to bubble up, rear door weather strip had to be replaced 5x. Not happy with quality of veh. luv speed and exteior of veh not happy w/ many other things!

  • Could have been much better.... - 2004 Nissan Maxima

I love the power of this. Its very fun to drive espeically with the 3.5 liter power house. However, my biggest complaint with the car is the interior quality. Its all PLASTIC, and has a very cheap look and feel to it. After 1,500 miles my sunroof and front dash is already rattling. Im not sure what Nissan was thinking with this car when it came to the interior. The exterior is so-so. My biggest worry with the exterior the cheap front grill. I drive on the highway, and I usually get rock chips. Now my plan is to get rid of this car and get an Accord, at least the interior isnt made of cheap plastic.

  • 2004 Nissan Maxima - Fun To Drive - 2004 Nissan Maxima

The 2004 Maxima is an excellant compromise between fun-to-drive, performance, and usefulness. The Elite version has every possible feature I have ever wanted, from power folding side mirrors to an informative display screen that handles sound, climate and navigation issues. The 6-speed has excellent acceleration. And, finally, the 4-doors and large trunk means the car is still good for hauling people and things.
