This Year's Model Updates:

The Maxima has been fully redesigned for 2004. It now rides on the same underpinnings as the well-received Nissan Altima. This year's Maxima is longer, wider and more powerful than the previous version.

Pros:
  • Roomy interior, lots of upscale options, sweet V6, available with a manual transmission.
Cons:
  • Some small, oddly arranged controls.

Tested Volvo S80, VW Passat, and BMW 3&5 series. Liked the Maxima best. Most power, most gadgets, most interesting style, and the least expensive. Were thrilled so far.

Ive had my SL 4 sp automatic with Elite package (loaded with Navigation but no VDC)for a month and it is a great car. At first I did not like the new styling but I now realize that it stands out and is a quantum leap above everything else in its class. Gets looks wherever it goes. It is defintely the wave of the future. Performance and luxury.

Ive owned prestigious German cars ever since I could drive. I am now 43 years old and tried something different when I got the Nissan Maxima.I love it, It has been a great car all around. For the money that I saved by not buying the German car it makes alot of sense. It has great performance and styling all of its own. I would refer anyone who wants a car.

Have had the Maxima for approx 3 weeks and am awed by the comfort and power of this vehicle. Handles well on turns, good acceleration , gas mileage has been decent(booklet says 87 and above can be used). Told the dealer to add in the service manual for free.. which are 4 books in all worth 400 clams in total, and he would have a deal.Car was bought at 29K. Leather interior is great, Bose sound is outstanding, noise reduction is soothing.Safety features rival the benz and volvo s. Braking distance was a worry with the older model however the newer model does quite adequately with the abs system.

This is the greatest car I have ever had. It is so smooth to drive it and its extremely powerful and fast.

  • Satisfaction - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Best car Ive ever owned. I have owned two other Maimas and they did well for me. I have a 5 yr lease on this one and if it continues the same satisfaction, I may purchase it at the end of the lease. It handels like a sports car but with all the luxury of the German cars and for much less money. Even my friends who own "German" cars are envious of me.

  • More Pros Than Cons - 2004 Nissan Maxima

Saw this car while on vacation in Florida and fell in love with it. Its a very competent road car, with powerful acceleration and a roomy cabin. Styling (other than grille) is top notch. Had to replace front shocks under warranty and now there is a vibration in steering wheel. I hope can be remedied with tire balancing, but have read many complaints in the past about wheel/tire issues related to this. Overall, have been very happy with car and its the best one Ive ever owned.

  • That engine... the only reason I bought it. - 2004 Nissan Maxima

The engine in this thing ... dayyum! It was a very fast car! It was also superbly comfortable on long drives, and did surprisingly well on gas. I bought this used for a really good price. I was disappointed however in the transmission failures and overall build quality. The car was in good shape but felt like it was 10 years older than it was.
