This Year's Model Updates:

An industry-first seven-speed automatic transmission is now standard. The navigation system is now DVD-based, and the Keyless Go system is now built into the SmartKey. Newly styled 18-inch wheels are optional.

Pros:
  • Elegantly appointed and spacious cabin, feels nimble for its size, state-of-the-art safety features, strong resale value.
Cons:
  • Complicated COMAND system, not as athletic as some of its competitors, a few low-grade interior materials.

I had a s430 and it was a fine car. In the winter the traction was adequate. The s4304matic is much better in snow and rain. The newer model is improved but lacks a cassette player that was previously included. Fuel economy is slightly less. I average 17mpg

Drives very well for used car. Good mileage per gallon when carefully driven, or on highway. Good looks in gray. In sport setting transmission kicks at stops. Wiper not performing well at aouto setup - often too slow to react. Overall comfortable ride. Bit too high seatting position for driver. Once you learn all tech data it is very pleasant automobile.

WHAT AN AMAZING MACHINE. ALL YOU HAVE TO IS POINT IT AND HIT THE GAS. IF YOURE GOING TO DRIVE AN S, SPEND THE EXTRA MONEY. THIS ONE HAS EVERY OPTION KNOWN TO MERCEDES. THE V12 IS NOT ONLY FAST, BUT SMOOTH. ENJOY THE RIDE, FROM THE FRONT OF THE LINE.

  • SHIFTING IS ROUGH - 2004 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

I HAD THIS CAR FOR 6 MONTHS BEFORE TURNING IT IN FOR AN S600. THE S55 WAS A BLAST TO DRIVE, BUT IT WAS A BIT TO SPORTY FOR SUCH A LARGE SEDAN. IF YOU HIT THE GAS FROM A STOP, A LOT OF TIMES IT WOULD BUCK, AND THE SHIFTING WAS NOT NEARLY AS SMOOTH AS I FELT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN. JUST A PERSONAL OPINION. THE S600 IS AMAZING! IT APPEARS TO HAVE MORE POWER,( 2 TURBOS) SMOOTHER SHIFTING, AND EVERY TOY THAT MB MAKES. SUEDE HEADLINER, PHONE, 4 SEAT HEAT/AC/POWER, WOODPKG, KEYLESS GO, VOICE COMMAND...ALL STANDARD. IF YOU CAN SPEND THE EXTRA $20K, GO FOR THE 600.
