This Year's Model Updates:

An industry-first seven-speed automatic transmission is now standard. The navigation system is now DVD-based, and the Keyless Go system is now built into the SmartKey. Newly styled 18-inch wheels are optional.

Pros:
  • Elegantly appointed and spacious cabin, feels nimble for its size, state-of-the-art safety features, strong resale value.
Cons:
  • Complicated COMAND system, not as athletic as some of its competitors, a few low-grade interior materials.

I used to drive E 300 before and I wasnt impressed at all w/ the comfort of driving it. I didnt like Mercedez not until I drove S 500 4 door sedan. The comfort and power is really good it gives the power I needed when I need it.Bose sound system is excellent and the heated/cooling seats I loved it.I also loved the size of it sleek not too wide.

This is the ultimate ride. You wont need antianxiety medication if you drive one of these. Its a totally relaxing experience - like riding in a very comfortable living room. Ive put the 4MATIC to the test, and it survived unbelievably well. The keyless entry is something that all cars should have - very convenient.

Not great with repard to service response from dealer or manufacturer, many delicery flaws not dealt with and neither manufacturer nor dealer take responsibiltiy -- a real frustrating catch 22 for a vehicle of this cost and supposed caliber.

  • Initial Impressons of the new S Class - 2004 Mercedes-Benz S-Class

This car replaced identical 2000 S Class which had numerous electrical and computer problems. New model is free from these glitches. Never had mechanical problem with Mercedes. Enjoy the quality of the burl walnut and interior appointments. New features that I like are the power trunk, keyless go start on the shift knob, voice control on nearly everything, power curtains, digital readout of tire pressures and a much improved navigational system on DVD. Car remains very responsive with sharp turning radius. I dont need AMG assist for my driving. It appears to me M-B has given us many innovations that are quickly copied by other manufactures.

The S55 with nearly 500 horsepower is as fun to drive as any sports car Ive owned. Its solid, comfortable, well built, good looking and enough room to carry 4 sets of golf bags or plenty of luggage in the trunk.

Have owned Lex-Porch-Ferr- This autio superior to all of those mentioned. The command center is fairly complicated and the location of the window controls is not conveniently located. The respnse to throttle is breathtaking. Please dont floor pedal if you are not ready .

I wrote a review 2 1/2weeks ago. Please revise. When you accelerate from stop you can hear a ping noise coming from the transmission. Two months ago the service dept. at Orland Mercedes corrected the problem for 6 weeks. Then the noise was audible again. When the car was returned for the same ping noise, I was informed that Mercedes declared the noise will not harm anything and it is acceptable. They were aware of the ping noise that was reported to them by others. I drove a new 2004 And no noise. For these 2 reasons: a) the mechanic corrected the noise for 6 weeks and b) the noise is on "some" other S55s. There must be a major defect somewhere.
