This Year's Model Updates:

Two new trim levels, the R320 CDI and the R63 AMG, are available this year. The R320 CDI has a diesel-fueled engine for enhanced fuel economy, while the R63 AMG is modified for high performance and comes equipped with a 503-horsepower V8.

Pros:
  • Wide range of engine choices, seating for six, functions much like a luxury minivan but without the associated mommy-mobile stigma.
Cons:
  • Long and heavy rear doors, gasoline V6 is short on low-end torque, high price for glorified minivan functionality.

Bought it in aug of 2009 at 7,300 miles from a private party. Window sticker showed $68k msrp (loaded with options). Personally dont think the car worth that much. But buying it used at less than half what it stickered, it makes it a great deal. My first MB. Have had 3 bmws, 2 Lexus. Was a little worried about reliability but so far its been bullet proof at 20k miles. Car rides nice and smooth (too smooth I think). Great on trips with 2 small children with dvd in back. Extremely comfortable overall. I just hope it stays reliable after warranty. Gets about 14.5 mpg with suburb driving and up to 19 if on hwy all the way. Not too bad for 5.0 motor

There is some turbo lag until 2000rpms. Transmission shifts sluggishly when using comfort mode. Sport mode is a notable improvement. Past 2000rpm, the R Diesel launches into a breath depriving shove! It will surprise nearby motorists. 398ft-lbs does make a difference. Try test driving the V8 gas version, see for yourself. Suspension and handling is typical MBenz firm but no a racer. Transmission shifter takes a while to get used to. Tried it on cold icy highway conditions. Computer stability and traction programs do work in a very subtle way.

  • Almost perfec except for the engine noise - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

This is an excellent crossover, which Mercedes named it the "Grand Sports Tourer" uniquely classified-like no other. Lets start with exterior and will work our way to the interior. Got the Premium Package 1 includes: panorama sunroof, automatic rear pop- out windows, dual shade sunvisors, pwr tailgate, TeleAid, harman/kardon Logic7 sound system, rear audio controls, Sirius satellite radio, hands-free communication system - bluetooth adapter..awesome clarity. Superb ride and comfort but the engine while inside the cabin was a bit loud and more noticeable but overall the R350 gets two thumbs up from me.

  • Emphasis on Ride/Comfort not Reliability - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

The R350 was a very good choice at the time of purchase because it was the first true cross-over that focused on room & comfort. The interior design is ingeniously ergonomic. The performance is quaite acceptable for a station- wagon type vehicle. Much to my surprise, there were quite a few intermittent reliability issues (i.e.; the rear hatch would drain the battery in wet conditions. MB did not figure this out until the hatch completely failed.

The automobile is a fine ride overall. The BlueTooth ranks with BMWs. It works great, not like Acuras that frequently disconnected mid-sentence. Sleek look and well designed cabin.

  • Quietest Diesel Yet! - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
    By -

The look is very similar to the Chrysler Pacifica. The diesel engine is quiet, but the 7 speed transmission can be a little slushy and stumbled changing gears during easy acceleration (needed a reprogram). Everything seems to be tied to the computer, from the radio to the taillights. Needs to be able to readily accept a trailer hitch and harness. Some of the driver controls need better ergonomics such as the seat adjustment, clock, radio. AND there are counterintuitive RED lights to indicate a climate control function is operating. Bluetooth should be standard in a car of this class. Parktronic is essential due to poor sightlines.

  • Love the Diesel - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

Wouldnt have gotten it except for the diesel - great mileage, quiet and plenty of torque for running around town or passing on the highway. Just took three teenagers to an amusement park 2 hours away and car was a pleasure to drive and everyone had gobs of room.

  • Plagued with problems. - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

Nice car, purchased it for the Diesel engine and 6 passenger capacity. Overall, experience has been poor during and out of warranty. Engine stopped completely at highway speed on 3 separate occasions. 1st time was fuel pump, second time fuel sending unit and third time was crankshaft sensor. Seems like this model has problems with electrical (replace light bulbs every 2 - 3 months), airmatic suspension goes into error mode. We have spent over 6K$ in repairs since the car has been out of warranty. Unfortunately this is one purchase decision that I regret making.

  • Almost 1 year old and still in love! - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class

I am one of those crazies who trades every year. This vehicle may finally be the one that passes the year mark for me. Perfect ride, perfect power. Still one of the freshest looks out there in the sea of bland auto designs. No, I still havent gotten use to the minivan stigma, but boy once they ride in it, the critics convert quickly. Interesting that other makers are rushing this look to market. Cant wait to see what MB does at mid-cycle to freshen the front end.

  • Gadget Mania.- Not your ordinary SUV - 2007 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
    By -

You name the Gadget - this thing has it. If you actually read the manual (500 pages)you will discover why a Mercedes costs more than most cars on the road today. Example- hold down the heater button after the key is out and the system continues to blow hot air for 20 mins. So while you run into the store for a few quick things, the car is still warm when you get back! The list goes on and on and on. This is an amazing vehicle if youre a gadget freak like me. If your not, you could foolishly mistake it as just another SUV
