This Year's Model Updates:

Besides the addition of a Special Edition package that bundles together desirable features, the M-Class is unchanged. The complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.

Pros:
  • Strong range of engines, extensive array of safety features, comfortable for five, surefooted in bad weather.
Cons:
  • On-road handling surpassed by newer crossover SUVs, expensive for what you get.

Were happy with our 2 M-Class Benz and were proud driving this car.

Id have to say that overall I am not that happy with this MB product. It is my first and probably last. The cost cutting features become obvious after the cache of driving a Mercedes wears off. Too many typical MB luxury features were cut out of the "special edition" which would have been more aptly named the "lower class" edition. More enjoyable to own and drive that the comparable ford explorer, but I have also experienced the quick wear of dunlop oem tires and the 25k mile brake job. Should not have to replace ball joint and drive train bearings/valve in under 50k miles. Reliability very disappointing for a $40K plus vehicle. Handling better than expected for a virtual road tank!

I just got a 2005 ML-350 Special Edition in pewter with ash interior. A beautiful car and drives like a dream. I have a 3rd row seat option and can seat my 3 kids in this car pretty comfortably. At the same time it is a mid-size car (I am not a big fan of huge SUVs or minivans). Navig. system is great. Overall I love this car. Everyone who has testdriven it is very impressed.

  • Great Car - 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I bought my ML with 35K miles on it and its been the absolute best car Ive ever owned. I love the solid feel (others descriptions of a tank are accurate) and I feel completely safe in this vehicle. It handles beautifully in the wet, snowy weather in my area. I too have had trouble with the flaking on the back windows but thats about it cosmetically. The car handles like a dream and has enough horsepower to get me out of a tough place if I ever find myself in one. Cant seem to find a phone that works thru the speaker feature tho...

  • What An excellent package - 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I recently purchased the ML-350 limited edition package and I truly love it. It is the most plush vehicle I have ever ridden in. Its new styling make it stand out and there is no car company with history and prestige like Mercedes-Benz. I truly love and would reccomend it to all.

We have really enjoyed our 350 ML. Great quality and reliabilty. First tires and brakes wore out quickly (25K) but second set lasted twice as long.

  • Love this SUV - 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

I bought this car in Early June when the car had barely been put on the market. I was one of the first to buy the Special Edition ML350. I love this car. It is a great car to drive when going out with friends as it is both roomy and has a great sound system. The power on the AWD 3.7L 6cyl is fantastic, as well as the easy handling I wanted to get a hold of one of the last 350s being produced since the 2006 is coming out soon. In my opinion, the 2005 ML350 is so much better then the 2006 since MB is deciding to make the ML LESS of an SUV (through body chassis, performance, etc) and more like a family wagon looking car.

  • All Wheel Drive Eats Tires in 10,000 mi - 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class
    By -

My ML350 ruined a set of tires in 10,000 mile. The dealer says I didnt rotate enough. They were rotated and balanced at 5,000 at 10,000 at 15,000 at 20,000. I think the all wheel drive is eating the tires. My dealer wont do anything, no other dealer will do anything. So, at 30,000 miles, Im losing $7,000.00 just to get rid of this lemon. Pretty sad. Ive had other Mercedes, but this piece of junk is my last. This vehicle vibrates like a piece of junk. Im embarrased for M.B. They should be ashamed.

  • ML500- Not a Lexus or BMW - 2005 Mercedes-Benz M-Class

Squeaky brakes, annoying rattle in the hatch, stiff and sticky gas pedal...all of which the shop foreman has heard before. To fix breaks they will apply an anti-squeal formula for free that will get me through the first year, then what? Check engine light that will not go off...all in the first 5000 miles. Gas mileage is poor but I expected that. Best part is I have to pay for the service intervals....a cost cutting measure in 2005. After seeing all the plastic/rubber on the new 2006 model, I am glad I did not wait. This is my first Mercedes!
