This Year's Model Updates:

Diesel fans, rejoice! After years of waiting, a Mercedes-Benz diesel is once again available in the States, as the E320 CDI joins the lineup. For now, this model is only 45-state certified, meaning that it's unavailable in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont. Beginning in March 2005, the base E320 becomes the E350 with the addition of a 3.5-liter V6 with 51 more horsepower. At the same time, a sport package will be added, which features upgraded suspension tuning and wheels, as well as steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. Complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  • Beware of Certified Pre-Owned - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I lost a BMW 528 in an accident and needed a car. Found this sharp platinum blue / parchment E320 with chrome wheels. After one week, the brake problems started. Ive had the car a year and the break problems went away for one week when something else broke. I took it in to have the other problem fixed and the brakes were bad again. The certified warranty is up and so is my luck. Ill not only never buy from this dealer, but wont buy a Benz again.

I purchased my 2005 CDI in March. Its a great car! Powerful, great mileage and range, and very quiet at cruise. I get bored with cars quickly, but can see myself driving this one for a while. I wish it had bluetooth - Mercedes needs to get busy with this option. I thought I would not appreciate the dynamic seats, but wow...they really help with support taking aggressive corners. If you are going to purchase an E-Class, this is the one to get.

  • After four months of driving - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Have had car for four months. Averaging 33 MPH at highway speeds of 80. Around 26 in town driving. Only had one computer update on console system. No problems. Love car, the acceleration, braking, comfort of drive.

  • What a car! - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

I went into the dealership wanting to drive a C class but drove the E320 CDI first and drove off with it. This is my second MB and I am impressed with the power, quietness, performance, and MPG. This is the most impressive car that I have ever driven. It will make hybrid technology extinct. You owe it to yourself to drive this car.

  • Still fast and a headturner after 4 yrs. - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

After leasing my 2005 E500, I decided to keep it. And I dont regret it. I love this car! Its black with chrome wheels and gets a lot of attention. I have not had any major problems. Other than the scheduled maintenance, I took it in for an AC glitch. I love the luxury equipments that came standard. From the GPS and satellite to the pulsating seats and xenon headlamps. And this bad boy gets excellent gas mileage. I averaged 29.6 mpg on the highway last month, on a trip to San Francisco. City epa averages around 18- 20 mpg. Ill be keeping this till the next E Class comes out.

  • Sleeper rocket wagon - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

When I first heard about the wagon, I ordered it immediately. I had hoped Mercedes would bring a high performance wagon to the U.S. but never had before, only the rest of the world had a performance estate wagon. While it is rather expensive for a wagon, approaching the price of an S55 (which I also have), I think the exclusivity and performance make the price acceptable. I was unable to order a power liftgate or parking sensors (two options the wife wanted) so she is less likely to use the wagon (ok with me) and cannot figure out why since both options are available on the E55 sedan but those options will probably be offered soon (the power liftgate should be standard). It handles like a sedan

  • 2005 E320 CDI Review - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

A fantastic car to drive! Great fit and finish. Love the acceleration...better than my previous Q45. Stalks on the left side of the steering wheel take some getting used to and the cup holder layout in the front is abominable. I would highly recommend this automobile! A lot of fun!

  • Finally - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

A sedan that sends most sports car owners running to their therapists. Just incredible to haul groceries in comfort, and humiliate most Porsches at the same time.

  • E55 Review - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

The automotive know-how that went into this car is simply amazing. It is incredibly versatile and user friendly. It will willingly comply whether you want to go slow and smooth or fast and hard. The fit and finish is superior and the outside looks elegant and powerful. The engine is scarily powerful. You will NEVER AGAIN wish you had more horsepower at your disposal, and braking is very authoritative. This is an everyday car, a super car, a family car and a commuter car all in one.

  • Why did I wait so long? - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

After waiting to compare the new BMW 545 to the E500 and other also rans, I went with the E500 and have not been disappointed. No quality issues with mine. Very few nits to pick on. Performance is OUTSTANDING, unless the 5.8 sec 0-60 isnt good enough for you (go E55). The three position suspension is very handy - dials in the three settings I like (cruising, everyday, and attack). The 7 speed is a joy, and the comfort/style is timeless. The headlights are great, always eliciting delight from passengers. Seats (adaptive) are spectacular. Seat/steering wheel adjustments combine for the best ergonomic setting possibilities Ive seen in a vehicle.
