This Year's Model Updates:

Diesel fans, rejoice! After years of waiting, a Mercedes-Benz diesel is once again available in the States, as the E320 CDI joins the lineup. For now, this model is only 45-state certified, meaning that it's unavailable in California, Maine, Massachusetts, New York or Vermont. Beginning in March 2005, the base E320 becomes the E350 with the addition of a 3.5-liter V6 with 51 more horsepower. At the same time, a sport package will be added, which features upgraded suspension tuning and wheels, as well as steering wheel-mounted shift buttons. Complimentary scheduled maintenance program has been dropped for 2005.

Pros:
  • Sleek and dignified design inside and out, pleasing blend of ride and handling, sophisticated safety features, all-wheel drive available on both sedans and wagons.
Cons:
  • More expensive than competitors, confusing control layout, electronically controlled brakes lack progressive feel.

  • Mecedes Getting It Right - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

In spite of the negative press MB has received of late, I do think they are getting it right in the 2005 and 2006 model years. In particular I have nothing but praise for my trusty E320. This is my third MB (2nd in the last 3 years) and by far the best. In fact, I think it outshines anything in its class. I now have nearly 15,000 miles and my only service has been for scheduled maintenance. Its been a trusty vehicle for over a year now, and I would not own any other brand for this type of car. My only complaint (and this holds for the 2003 models as well) is extremely poor wear on OEM tires. I have over 45,000 miles on my 2004 Acura MDX with less apparant wear than the MB.

One of the better cars I have owned. Not as good as the 82 or 93 M/B sedans I purchased new way back when, but very good compared with what ever else is out there. Audi maybe the only other better car. I had an S4 Avant before this M/B Wagon and it was actually finished better, also much faster. The MB e320 wagon can acheive 28-29 mpg if you stick to 65-70 mph. Electric rear tailgate is a must!

  • Best car Ive ever owned - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This is my second E-320. Both are fine cars, but the 2005 is clearly the superior machine. I think the best one-word description for this car is "precision". It is fun to drive and does exactly what I expect. In the first six months of ownership there have been no problems at all. Having suffered quality issues in recent years, Mercedes has returned to the high standards of old with a car which seems nearly bulletproof.

  • A Great, but Expensive Ride - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

A tight, well balanced ride. Like most Mercedes, I had electrical problems and needed to have batteries replaced 4 times in the first 2 months I owned it. On the road it has good pickup with responsive and crisp steering. All inclusive with the fairly loaded configuration I specificed it set me back $76,000 and although Im happy with the car, I feel I should have walked out of the showroom with at least another $10K in my pocket. Overall, the powerful engine combined with excellent handling makes for an exhibiliating and road worthy experience.

  • 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 - The Most Beautiful Car Ever - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Replaced a Ford Expedition with a CLK 430 then an E320. Huge improvement in quality, ride, fuel economy, etc.

  • Super Car! - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

Solid, smooth, handles well and is a wonderful alternatve to a bulky, poor-handling SUV! This wagon drives like a sedan, is comfortable like a sedan, yet has tons of storage space. My only complaint is the usual problem with the stupid headrest that travels upward, whether you move the seat back or forward. Mercedes needs to fire the engineer who designed this bizarre feature into the car! Other than this, the best car (wagons) on the road. Had an Audi Allroad and this is FAR superior in all respects!

  • 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320 - A Nice Business Car - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

As a 42 year marketing veteran who transports clients in his car, I needed a dependable business sedan that has an image matching my success and style. This cars performance and economics are there and its the passenger accomodations provide my clients with the comfort and pleasure to focus on their business decisions. This is my fourth Mercedes and we have been a great team!

  • a geat car - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

I have owned, in the past, BMW M3 and 540i, MB S500, etc. By far, this is my favorite car. Great balance of performance, luxury, size, and it is beautiful. I believe that the time of 5.8 seconds of 0-60 is accurate. The cornering ability, with maximum stiffness of suspension, rivals the BMWs. The fun factor is the tops. All in all, my favorite car of all times.

  • So far, so good - 2005 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
    By -

So far, so good- everything has been 100% reliable. Handling is outstanding. The 7 speed transmission is the best automatic that Ive seen. Economy is better than I expected (20+mpg).
