Overview & Reviews
After an extremely successful introductory year, Mazda's Tribute SUV receives only minor modifications for 2002. DX models get additional standard equipment in the form of alloy wheels, dark-tinted glass and remote keyless entry. After a short production run, however, the DX-V6 model will be discontinued. Midgrade LX models can be ordered with ABS as a stand-alone option (last year it was bundled with side airbags) and with a six-way power driver seat. Both LX and ES models get a new driver lumbar support feature. Side step tubes are a new option on all Tribs, and four new colors debut for 2002.
- Stout V6 power, rugged good looks, roomy cabin, attractive pricing.
- Weak standard four-cylinder engine, no low-range transfer case.

Mine was rolled and I walked away! - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By Heather Jones - October 22 - 12:06 amI loved my Mazda, I had it for 6 months, it was rolled in an accident and we all were in one piece! We walked away the Mazda wasnt drivable but it was also in one piece. They are very well made cars and I would definitely recommend one to someone I care about! I just need a new one!

So far so good - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By Jaddy - July 9 - 10:00 amI have had my Tribute for a year now and have no troubles. The ride is very smooth, and the drivetrain is surprisingly responsive, considering the low-end power package. The interior is very roomy for all five passengers, with plenty of cargo area as well. The only negatives I have noticed is in the transmission. It can be difficult to shift gears at higher rpms, and it has a tendency to spin the tires too easily when accelerating from a stop. But overall, Im very pleased.

Nice SUV - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By Freeway823 - June 25 - 10:00 amthe vehicle is good looking has a powerful motor and nimble handling. Has all the power equiptment that is to be expected in a SUV. The roof rack is nice but I dont think I will ever use it. The tinted glass is a nice touch.

An Easy Choice - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By Fasteddie - May 28 - 10:00 amWe had the chance to drive and compare the Honda CRV, Subaru Forester, Toyota Highlander and the Mazda Tribute 2WD V6ES. All things considered the Tribute was an easy choice. Compared to a similarly equipped Toyota Highlander, the Tribute came in at $6,000.00 less! The Honda and the Subaru did not have enough space and power (both had 4 cyl engines and no V6 was available) for our needs, and their prices were comparable, less for your money!

11K enjoyable miles - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By wooster - January 19 - 10:00 amPurchased our Tribute last October with the works. My wife and I really love how it handles and rides. We take turns driving it and often fight over whose turn is next. We did have the car in the shop once for warranty work on the passenger door lock. The power lock jammed and the dealer had to replace the lock mechanism and interior door panel after it cracked upon removal. I wont hold the problem against Mazda, so long as it remains an isolated incident. It was kind of a freak occurence. The dealer took care of the problem promptly.

Tribute - fun to drive - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By gapake - November 16 - 9:13 amI was one of the first to buy a new Tribute. It was fun to drive and easy to maneuver. The only problem I have is it hurts my toes to drive. I am 53" and when I have to drive in stop-and-go driving, my foot does not rest on the peddle so I have to use my toes. The seat is higher than my non-SUV car so I am thinking that is the problem. Does anyone else have trouble with the peddles?

My Tribute - 2002 Mazda Tribute
By Evelyn - October 27 - 3:56 pmAfter driving minivans for 12 years, I needed a change but did not want to drive an "ordinary" car. After alot of looking and comparison shopping, I spotted the Tribute and was sold. Ive only had it for 3 months but havent had as much fun driving a vehicle since I was 20 and had a sports car. I love it and it has lived up to my expectations so far. Only thing that gets in my way is the gear lever when I reach for the radio controls, and that is a minor point.
