  • The bad side - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

After five years I have had many problems with my car i.e., headliner at rear window coming off on both sides, driver side visor broke, stereo has problems push CD changer and the A/M radio comes on, push change song on CD and CD ejects, lots of strange thing like that. The biggest problem is the transmission shifts really really hard like it slams into gear. Took it to a dealer they told me not a thing is wrong with it. One more thing the fan has a recall because it stays on long after car is off.

Just replaced the starter today, at 30K miles. Strange "whirring" sound after cranking was my tipoff that something was amiss. Luckily, I havent had any of the brake problems encountered by many on this site. My other big concern since owning this car has been intermittent problems with hesitation upon releasing the clutch, especially into second gear, when turning a corner. It seems like either my clutch is slipping, or my power is dropping precipitously. And of course, the dealer can never re-enact it when they have it (tends to be worse when the car is cold).

  • Must Have Fallen Off the Truck! - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

The overall design is very good. It is comfortable yet sporty, with a nice interior and a lot of nice touches such as the standard steering wheel audio controls. The 4-wheel disc brakes are excellent. Unfortunately, I have had a lot of problems with this particular car, everything from drivetrain to interior to the infamous "staining". Perhaps this car fell off the truck!

I bought my car in May of 2003. I loved the car since I first saw it, and of course it was my favorite color, Yellow! I got the car and had problems 3 months later. And still to this day I am having problems. When I am coming to a stop, and the gears are shifting from 4th to 3rd and 3rd to 2nd, it shifts really hard to where it jolts the car. I have taken it to the dealership at least 4 times and there is nothing they can do for it. One technician told me the car is suppose to ride like that... Which I highly doubt! So now to this day, I am filing the Lemon Law.

  • Poor reliability and durability - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

I had Mazda 6 and it was doing well till it hit the 50 k mark and then it became a problem. Once it had 65K and it became beyond repair. If you are looking for a durable car for sure this is not for you.

  • my nightmare - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

Several recalls which is normal for a new model. Had 13,000 miles on car and smoke started coming from exhaust pipes upon start up. Smelled like transmission was burning up. Been back to the dealer 5 times. First I was told I may have picked up plastic bag. Dealer cant find problem. It now developed coolant leak and Mazda suggested they replace radiator. Smoking occurs every 5 to 6 weeks and only once on initial start up. Anyone have a problem like this?

  • My Junk 6 - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

Well, my problems began at around 900 miles. First it was the brakes. Ended up they had to be replaced at 7000 miles. Next the paint began coming off of the black strips running up the doors. Then, my transmission was leaking. Next, the back passenger speaker works only when volume is turned way up. I tried numerous times to get these problems worked out where I purchased, they never could "duplicate the problem." Finally went to another dealership. Some problems have been fixed and some havent. Brakes are making a popping noise, car is surging, interior lights flicker, and car has been at dealer since Feb. 27. Theres always a problem. I have contacted a lemon lawyer and they took my case.

  • BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS! - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

I bought my 2003 Mazda 6S brand new. For starters, I had to get new rotors every 5K miles. They warped constantly. At 45K, I had a total of 8 new sets of rotors! They finally checked my calipers and found out I had a stuck caliper that was causing it. My transmission had to be replaced at 48K, as well as the transmission controller. The transmission started slamming from about 8K between 2nd & 3rd gear. This car has been nothing but a LEMON! I would NEVER buy another Mazda product. The dealership accused me of driving the car hard! I am not hard on a car. They could not figure it out so they tried to blame me.

First two years, great car, fun to drive, great looks, everything. Then the car starts to idle roughly, which triggers check engine light. Take it in for a diagnostics test, and it says to replace camshaft position sensor. Did that, only to have the car get worse. Take it into the dealer, who states that the cars engine has suffered a catostrophic failure. Oil burned up fast due to the cylinder head rings cracking. That resulted in the pulleys breaking off. Funny thing was, oil was replaced 4K before this happened, and no oil light ever came on throughout the entire ordeal. Fought with Mazda hard, but they never budged, so I got stuck with paying 3K left on a car that I dont even have.

  • good looks, many problems - 2003 Mazda Mazda6

I was drawn to the Mazda 6s because of the exterior styling and price, but after only a few months of owning noticed really bad front wheel brake dust followed by a bad sulfur smell coming of the engine; then noticed the colling fan was really loud. Most recently my right front speaker blew out and just this week my check engine light came on. Needless to say Ive been spending a lot of time at the dealership and theyre starting to be less sympathetic. I stuck with Mazda after owning a Mazda Protege for the last 7 years without any problems but this will be my last!
