This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, power sliding doors are an option for both the LX and ES trim levels. A towing package and a cargo organizer are two other new options. Also, an alarm and engine immobilizer are now part of a security package, and a cassette player is available on the ES trim level. The LX trim now rides on 16-inch wheels. Inside, floor and cargo mats are now standard on both trim levels, while outside, you'll see a new exhaust tip.

Pros:
  • Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in the sliding doors.
Cons:
  • Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

  • We should not have waited so long. . . . - 2003 Mazda MPV

After searching for about six months and researching all of the minivans, we finally decided on the Mazda MPV. Although its a bit smaller than the rest, it is still very comfortable. It has all the features we wanted at an affordable price, with a reliability record of above average. So far we love our van and so do our children!

The MPV is smaller than I expected. I had a small wheelbase 95 Voyager, and this seems like it has less room. From my point of view is built more for Asian and European roads than American. I personally like the smaller size and firmer ride. If you’re expecting a roomy, cushy American highway cruiser, this is not it. Handles well, acceptable acceleration, and relatively quiet. So far, no reliability problems of any kind.

We moved into a mini-van when my 3rd child was born. 2 yrs old and 24,000 miles. 5 yrs later still driving it, has been on many vacations, have done only routine maintenance, and have replaced the tires once. The transmission may be going, but up until now, it has been very reliable and a great vehicle for my family.

After 8 months, we are very pleased with our 2003 Mazda MPV. First of all the price was right. Very good compared to other main contender, the Honda Odyssey. The MPV has all the features of the Odyssey. I am slightly disappointed with the vrmmm vrmmm. Needs a bit more power. The trans is very smooth, but is slow to upshift once youve floored it to pass someone. The 16" wheels and sporty exterior are pleasing compared to most mini-vans, and make it bit nicer when dad has to drive it for a day.

Watch the transmission. Very annoying clunks, which make me worry it will fail in later years. Very cool looking. Small, but if thats what you want you wont be disappointed. I bought mine new and overall is a good value.

Many problems - Ill never buy Mazda again - - oil leak started at 70000; dealer "fixed" but fix only lasted 30000 miles - manifold cracked - very noisy on startup - catalytic converter needed to be replaced at 125000 - replaced 2 coils at $200 a piece. This is not what I call reliability.

This vehicle has constant high levels of sulphur dioxide odors which can even be smelled inside. Dealer cannot fix. Blames high suphur in gas. I understand there are a number of MPV`s which have this problem and Mazda disclaims responsiblity saying it is "normal". I hesitate to drive this van on any extented trip due to the excessive odor.My MPV is a loser!

  • Nice van for a small family - 2003 Mazda MPV

After looking at several different minivans, the comfort, styling and price could not be beat. Having recently had our first child and my wife moving up from a 2-door car, the size alone made it a no brainer. I would highly recommend this van for a new family.

  • Ze MPV Rocks !! - 2003 Mazda MPV

Quiet engine Smooth tranny shifts excellent acceleration gets to freeway speed seamlessly Does NOT feel like a mini-van Very carlike ride & feel Reversing & sharp turns felt very easy HUGE moonroof I could stand side facing through it with plenty of shoulder room, crisp audio sounds FM & CD Excellent visibility blind spot checks were a breeze due to the BIG slider windows which sit low Big side view mirrors HUGE windshield. The RPMs were impressive:700 rpm from idle till 50 mph. At freeway speeds they still stay below 2K.

Just purchased a new LX MPV. We were sold on the handling, reliability, quadruple 5-star safety rating, sporty look and all the cool features at a very reasonable price (22k with rebate). We bought one with power sliding doors, roof rack, 4-seasons package, fog lights, rear step plate, side airbags and traction control. Got it at invoice price and $ 2000 rebate. We were turned off by the attitude of Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna salespeople, who demanded MSRP or more. Mazda salespeople were much more polite and helpful. Mazda needs to market this minivan a lot more.
