This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, power sliding doors are an option for both the LX and ES trim levels. A towing package and a cargo organizer are two other new options. Also, an alarm and engine immobilizer are now part of a security package, and a cassette player is available on the ES trim level. The LX trim now rides on 16-inch wheels. Inside, floor and cargo mats are now standard on both trim levels, while outside, you'll see a new exhaust tip.

Pros:
  • Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in the sliding doors.
Cons:
  • Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

Compared the MPV (ES) vs. Honda Ody. Fell in love with the Mazda & wouldnt trade it for the world. Sporty, fun to drive and loaded with features. Great vehicle!

i really enjoy driving the car, the seats are very comfortable. I dislike the headrests, which cannot be utilized while on trips (they need to be extended forward). Service visits have been the minimum for almost 2 years that I have owned it.

  • Disappointing - 2003 Mazda MPV

I used to own used 1994 MPV that I was very satisfied with. it ran over 180k miles without any major problems. and that is main reason for buying an MPV again. The van drives like a sports car, totally satisfied the way it drives. I took in for service 3 times and I still have transmission hard/erratic shift problem (slightly better now), severe vibrating at more than 80 mph, and brake noise. Ive owned new Nissan, Acura, and Toyota cars and all had some problems initially but were fixed, and they were nothing major. but this MPV is different; either dealers mechanics are not capable or its just plain bad manufacturing.

I bought a new MPV in Nov 2002. It has been terrific. I am a manufacturers rep, So I drive a lot!!!!! Got the idea to get one from my employer, who has one with 100k on it. It has been flawless for him too. Pretty good performance, Just the right size. I practically live in mine. I dont think there is a better minivan for the money.

  • First and Last Mazda - 2003 Mazda MPV

Bought our 2003 MPV new. It only has 60,000km on it but it has cost us a lot of money and time to keep it on the road. PCV hose, TCM and various little unrelated things. The real pain is the dealer dings us $110Cdn every time they hook it up to the computer. We bought this van because we thought Mazda was a reliable and durable brand. NOT SO. This is our first and last Mazda vehicle...

200 hp and ft/lbs of torque in a minivan that is 7/8 the size of its competitors. Zoom Zoom. So it fits in the garage nicely next to the sedan, and I especially like the passenger side windows that go down. If passengers want to wait in the car while I run in for somethingn they can. And its really quiet inside on the highway. What remains to be seen is reliability. Im a little concerned that its a ford duratec V6 under the hood, so well see.

  • My Perfect Van - 2003 Mazda MPV

I bought the van for my wife, but I find myself always driving it. We got the LX with all the options. The only drawback is the interior noise, it can be loud when its windy. Other than that, its a great van for the price.

  • Nicely Built, Great Looks, Right Size - 2003 Mazda MPV

After 2 weeks of extensive research we settled on the Mazda MPV. We dont particularly like MiniVans, and did not like the idea of driving a dinasour like Odissey. Yet again we needed 7 seat capacity. We really liked the looks and the relatively small size of the MPV. The consumer report ratings are great and since the Odyssey seems to be so popular, Mazda dealers are really willing to bargain.
