This Year's Model Updates:

For 2003, power sliding doors are an option for both the LX and ES trim levels. A towing package and a cargo organizer are two other new options. Also, an alarm and engine immobilizer are now part of a security package, and a cassette player is available on the ES trim level. The LX trim now rides on 16-inch wheels. Inside, floor and cargo mats are now standard on both trim levels, while outside, you'll see a new exhaust tip.

Pros:
  • Compact and maneuverable, confident handling manners, roll-down windows in the sliding doors.
Cons:
  • Limited maximum cargo capacity, lacks some features found in the other minivans.

It is fun safe, and spaces the kids out well to eliminate fighting! Manuvers great, love the looks, upohlstery is like a luxury car! I had Toyotas for a long time, and they kept getting cheaper, and breaking. So glad I investigated vans on this site and others for 6 months, and choose this one. The paint doesnt come off from bugs like all the Toyotas, and the ride is smooth

VERY HAPPY WITH THIS VEHICLE-TRADED IN A 99 WINDSTAR WHICH WAS NOTHING BUT PROBLEM AFTER PROBLEM. SO FAR AFTER 18,000 MILES HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS AND EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE HANDLING, FIT AND FINISH AND OVERAL RELIABILITY AND GENERAL BUILD QUALITY. WOULD DEFINATELY RECOMMEND THIS VAN AND WOULD NEVER PURCHASE A FORD PRODUCT AGAIN!!!!!

  • Do Not Buy This Van! - 2003 Mazda MPV

This is the worst experience I have ever had with a vehicle. Purchased used. One owner lease. Good price and had all I wanted. Well the engine started coughing. 2 coils replaced, transmission, fan cooling system, and then another enginge. That engine was coughing. Another lower mileage engine around 40,000 installed. Now that engine is coughing since it now has around 75,000 miles on it, the engine not odometer. New driver window motor, 4 o2 censons, and a new cadallidic converter. I have put more money in this van than its worth. Mazda is not coming clean on the engine problems and they should be recalled. Shame on you! Just paid off my van and cant afford another vehicle or more repairs!

  • fun to drive - 2003 Mazda MPV

Have enjoyed this van. Have gone from a short wheel-based Aerostar to extended Aerostar to Grand Caravan during the past 16 years, and this is by far the most fun to drive. Am a little concerned with the transmission, it shifts harshly when cold, and gas mileage, which has not been stellar (but better than my other vans). The power and handling have been intoxicating for this type of vehicle. And I enjoy the flat-folding rear seat.

  • Should have bought the Honda... - 2003 Mazda MPV

I have owned the MPV for 40,000 miles now. Just had the rotors replaced because of all the hotspots, warping and bad quality. While the fit and finish are good, the transmission feels like it is about to fall out when the engine gets heated up, and thats WITH the tranny cooler! Of course Mazda cant figure out (or admit) anything, nor will they help. Im sure that the dealer will be able to figure it out 1 mile after the warranty runs out. The DVD is junk. We have it replaced annually because the screen burns out. No replacement foam earpieces for the IR headphones just insures that we will be buying another make next time. Looks good, but its in the shop far too often!

We purchased this van with 62,000 miles on it in 2008 for a great price. Made me wonder if it was a lemon. We had to have a van and it was the right price especially compared to Toyotas and Hondas. This van has been a blessing! 25 ,000 miles later and it runs perfectly. Do all my own maintenance and the fluid levels are always spot on where they were before. Ours is decked out with all the modern options of 2003 and was way below the cost of comparable other vans. I would venture to say you must check this van out if you are in the market for a van. This seems to be a reliable used purchase flying below the radar thus a much more reasonable price.

  • Well designed compact minivan - 2003 Mazda MPV

Weve owned the MPV for just over two months and its been great. Very quiet on the inside, you can just about hear the horn. Love the third row seat and the sliding door roll down windows are especially popular with my kids. The well for the third row seat holds grocery bags excellently well. Fit and finish are excellent. The ride is relatively sporty - not in the league of my Ford Contour with its wide tires and stiff suspension - but there is noticable body roll in turns. The interior is quite ergonomic except for the fact that the column shifter partly hides the volume control and sometimes I have tried to "shift" the turn signal lever.

Excellent car for the price you pay. Very smooth and quit when running. Own it for 10 month and not regret for buying. I think it is best among minivans. Strongly suggest it.
