This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new model last year, the Mazda CX-9 cruises into 2008 with a heavily revised engine that increases output by 10 horsepower and 21 pound-feet of torque. A blind-spot warning system also debuts on the Grand Touring trim level.

Pros:
  • Strong performance and handling, stylish and roomy cabin, easy access to third row, solid build quality, high crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Long rear doors can be hard to open in tight parking spaces, 20-inch wheels give a stiff ride on concrete freeways, stingy interior storage.

  • A great family hauler - with style - 2008 Mazda CX-9

We purchased our CX9 after looking at the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, Ford TaurusX, Volvo XC70, as well as the Subaru Outback and Tribeca. We decided the CX9 had everything we were looking for; Room, utility, horsepower, great driving habits, and last but not least great looks - in and out. With the exception of a early stability control issue it has been trouble free. Surprised not see more of these on the road.

  • The Car Sold Me - 2008 Mazda CX-9

I purchased a new 2008 Mazda CX9 for my wife in Feb 2009. We were impressed by the look and ride of the car. We were blown away by the fuel economy of our car. We were expecting less than 20 miles per gallon. We are getting 22 to 23 miles per gallon. Our only sore spots with the car are the hood latch that broke very easily and the third row seat belt hooks that feld off while driving around town. Due to the great cars ride and comfort, those flaw are very minor in comparison. We will recommend and have recommend buying the CX9 to our friends and family. The power will blow you away.

Was completely impressed with the Cx9. After searching for six months, we narrowed it down to the Volvo XC90 and the CX9. We chose the CX9 because of the available technology, comfort and style.

  • Great vehicle - 2008 Mazda CX-9

After test driving the 08 Honda Pilot, 09 Honda Pilot, 08 Toyota Highlander, 08 Ford Edge, and the 08 Mazda CX-9 twice on two different occasions, it was clear to us the CX-9 was a great fit for our family. The storage behind the 3rd row is actually usable, and the leg room is great. The ride is more sports car like than the rest, and it is a sharp looking car with a superb feel behind the wheel. We think the CX-9 looks great! If in the SUV / CUV market, give the CX-9 a test drive and look.

  • Amazed and delighted - 2008 Mazda CX-9

This vehicle does it all. We can get 7 full size adults and teens in this vehicle; it is very well ventilated, creature comforts galore, drive is smooth and steering so easy, great acceleration. Never feels like a big car when youre driving. Its the ultimate trip and town vehicle, a true crossover. First tank was 18.9 mpg - amazing for such a huge and heavy vehicle. Bose sound system is first rate, kids love riding in it; tech features very easily usable; endless cup holders and lights are great for car homework. Cant recommend this one enough - its close to perfect!!

  • Best Crossover Value on the market - 2008 Mazda CX-9

Purchased as 3rd car to go with a Porsche 911. Ive always driven nothing but European sports cars, but am VERY impressed with this car. Steering is excellent for any vehicle. Handling is good for a car this big, but Mazda really needs to address the torque steer under hard acceleration in FWD models. It isnt fast, but quick enough for what it is. The interior is tasteful and well done. A few cheap plastic bits, but what do you expect at this price? This car looks and performs like a $45K car, and can be had nicely optioned for $35K. A steal at this price, it drives as well as some competitors costing $20K more. Perfect as kid carrier or a sporty SUV- - can do both well.

  • Zoom Zoom - 2008 Mazda CX-9

Mazda CX-9 replaced a Volvo XC-90 in September 2008. We have been very pleased - especially with the V6 performance (note 2008 is larger engine than 2007) and comfortable yet sporty ride (even with 19" wheels) . Nav is very good. Bose stereo is pretty good, but not as good as some other high-end factory audio systems. All weather mats from the factory sit flat on the ground and dont really catch the snow and water very well. Volvo is the king of seat design, and it is too bad that Ford didnt steal more of this technology to give to Mazda. Gas mileage is reasonable for a truck this size. Tons of room.

Much better looking than in the pictures. I got Sand on Black. Current car couldnt get three child seats across the back. Moreover, with 7 month old, wanted option to have adult in second row to administer bottle. Wife didnt want SUV, I didnt want minivan - perfect compromise. Whilst not quite BMW interior, its probably up there with Passat top of the line, with Passat pricing. Parked next to Q7 in city garage, could barely distinguish the two side-by-side.

  • Used CX-9 for family - 2008 Mazda CX-9

I bought this vehicle because my wife and I need a bigger car. I had a Toyota Matrix but with a car seat in the back made for a tight fit along with the stroller. We have had this suv for about 3 weeks now and love it. We have no complaints except for gas mileage. But cant do anything about that its an SUV not a four cylinder. Also big BLIND SPOTS but fixed it with buying a wide rear view mirror.

  • Awesome SUV - 2008 Mazda CX-9

We looked at Pilot, Highlander, Volvo C-90, Lexus and others. CX-9 Grand Touring, in my opinion, blew them away. Only have 200 miles on it, so there is still much to learn. It was immediately comfortable and familiar to drive. Very car-like, "zoom-zoom philosophy" is very evident. It is easy and fun to drive, and size is not apparent until it is time to park it, or wash it! Dashboard at night, for gadget-freaks, is like piloting the space shuttle. Nav is to a large degree voice activated, some dealers didnt seem to understand that. I currently own a 6 sp Acura CL- S and find every excuse I can to borrow my wifes CX-9. Do yourself a favor - test drive it!!
