This Year's Model Updates:

An all-new model last year, the Mazda CX-9 cruises into 2008 with a heavily revised engine that increases output by 10 horsepower and 21 pound-feet of torque. A blind-spot warning system also debuts on the Grand Touring trim level.

Pros:
  • Strong performance and handling, stylish and roomy cabin, easy access to third row, solid build quality, high crash test scores.
Cons:
  • Long rear doors can be hard to open in tight parking spaces, 20-inch wheels give a stiff ride on concrete freeways, stingy interior storage.

  • Nice - 2008 Mazda CX-9

I like the vehicle but Im not in love with it. I prefer my old Murano when it comes to handling; the CX-9 looks nicer though. The gas mileage on it is terrible. I live at the pump. I give it 7 stars.

  • Most reliable vehicle we have EVER owned. - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

We bought this car brand new in 2008. This has been the most reliable car we have EVER owned. It has not once left us stranded. Weve hauled some huge loads too. and it just keeps going and going. We took this car ALL THE WAY FROM LOUISIANA TO MAYNE. THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF MILES. In a period of 5 days. and not once did we think it was going to give up. We loved our cx9. Sadly, at a wopping 179,000 miles, we hydroplaned into a ditch and totaled it. Such a shame. We never had to do any major repairs on it. THe only bad thing is it was constantly having tire/wheel issues. it would need a brake job about every 16 months. And tire pressure was always low. Other than that. it was amazing.

  • Great crossover, needs better MPG - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

We have reviewed and test driven many crossovers before settling on Mazda CX9. We were just walking away from our Toyota minivan, we were looking for a car-like comfort, but more performance and fun, and Mazda made our shortlist. Excellent features and price, well loaded, and a great ride sold us. After 6 months we very happy with the car, but the mileage needs major improvement! We are getting between 12-15 MPG based on gas type. Premium gets us about 2-3 MPG more. Great car overall!

  • Better than any Minivan! - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

I just got this about two weeks ago, still w/ only 560 fun miles on it. I compared to an Audi Q7 3.2 which was out of my budget. The Mazda was better in rear passenger room and ergonomics for 2nd and 3rd row passengers. Power was also better because the Mazda was lighter, mine was a FWD CX-9. A lot of technical features for the money. Nice sporty alternative for a 7 passenger vehicle than buying a minivan.

  • Real seats for adults in the 3rd row - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

I needed a true 7 seater & CX-9 has a 3rd row seat that can actually seat full grown adults like myself (Im 511") with leg room. Since the second row of seating can be adjusted fore and aft, 3rd row riders can get enough leg room without compromising legroom for the 2nd row of passengers. For those more inclined to enthusiast type of performance, no other SUV in its class comes close. The CX-9 never feels heavy or ungainly.

  • Overall Great Car - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

Owner for 2 years. Overall very satisfied with this vehicle. Great acceleration and smooth ride. After driving it 1000 miles in 1.5 days, I was surprised that my back didnt hurt. I am very pleased with this cars performance, but cant say the same for the dealerships service. Love the Bluetooth and Nav system. Average hwy mileage at 75mph is 25. In town mileage could be better. Loads of cargo room. Down fall is that no daytime running lights and if you turn headlights on during the day, I cant see the speedometer very well even with my prescription sunglasses.

  • Beware of sunroofs and drainage flaws all years and models. - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

When we bought this car it was crossover of the year. I have always enjoyed the car until the on board computer went bad. We spent $750.00 to have a new on put in and one week to the day it went out again. My husband thought something was shorting it out and sure enough we were told by Mazda service that Mazdas with sunroof tended to have fir tree needles plug up the drain tubes and the water build up would short out the computer. I contacted Mazda corporate wanting to know why NO mention of this was available to potential or new car owners. I was told it was not a design flaw and the service folks should know about it. But no one ever told us so we are out approximately $1,100.00

  • Transmission Issue - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

Fuel mileage is poor. We have taken 2 long trips, one West to Yellowstone, Glacier, Tetons and the Black Hills. 2nd was to East Coast Fall Colors trip At the toll booths one needs to accellerate quickly after paying in order to merge with the other cars and we found that during this hard accelleration the transmission would not up shift beyond 4th gear even with pedal fully released, the only way to up shift was to maive the lever into the manual position then force the up shift manually. We have taken the car in to Morries on 2 occasions but was not able to dispaly the problem to the service people. We soon start another long trip and have concerns about the transmission failing

  • Sporty and Fun - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

I traded in a VW Beetle, so there isnt much comparison except from the test drives I have been on. We considered a Pathfinder, Pilot and the Highlander. The Pilot was too much like a car and not very responsive. The Highlander was too pricey for the amount of vehicle. The Pathfinder felt really bulky in comparison to the CX-9. I drive about 4 hours every weekend with my wife and great dane. We wanted a vehicle that would allow us to have room for children in the back along with our dog. The gas mileage isnt too impressive, but a vehicle this size just doesnt have that 30 mpg ability right now. The backup cam on the nav screen seems dangerous.

  • Great find - 2008 Mazda CX-9
    By -

This CX 9 is a replacement for my wifes 03 Highlander. We compared it to the 08 Highlander and the 08 Murano. When my wife first sat in the CX 9, we knew that we found her next SUV. We bought the GT, and even with the 20 inch wheels, it rides just fine with us. My BMW 540 with the Sports package rides firmer than this.
