This Year's Model Updates:

The 2010 Kia Soul is an all-new four-door hatchback/wagon with avant-garde styling and many customizable features.

Pros:
  • Loads of available features, highly customizable, user-friendly controls, ample passenger space, surprisingly fun to drive, low price, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Limited cargo room versus competitors, noisy and busy highway ride, unrefined manual transmission, silly trim level names.

  • 7 days of rental fun - 2010 Kia Soul

We spent about 1,000 miles driving mostly in Bozeman, Yellowstone National Park and Gardiner, MT, where roads can be very steep and very rough. The Soul accommodated ordinary luggage for two and handled all the terrain we encountered with ease. It also was peppy enough to give me no concerns on Interstates, including long hauls on grades. The looks are great and the handling is very good. Comfort was never an issue on the long haul from Bozeman to Yellowstone. I thought the fuel economy was a tad disappointing, considering the size of the vehicle. I think it should get at least 32 on highway, but it got about 27. Still, I am now considering buying a Soul.

  • Fun Car - Too Many Problems - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

Bought my Alien Soul + the day after thanksgiving. Been in the shop twice. ABS problems, shifter problems and on Monday morning the heat didnt work and it overheated. Towed in and they added coolant and are replacing the thermostat. Its very unfortunate that KIA still does not have sufficient quality control in their products despite all of the great reviews. I really like the car but am unsure how long I will keep it now.

I bought. It definitely worth its money but doesnt meet to my expectations. Almost everything meets my expectations except quality. Engine great styling is my fave. I wish it had more accessories thats all leather seats stuff for better comfort. The car is very sporty love it. But not for quality !

This is my second review of my + automatic in titanium. Just over 1k mi. and I really like this car. Yes the seats are still a tad firm but Im getting used to them. BIG omission. There is no light in the large two level glove box! I hate that. Sound system is great. Very happy with my lease.

  • Not without its compromises - 2010 Kia Soul

My wife really wanted a Kia Soul, so after a few days of research, we headed down to the Kia dealership. My other car is a MkV Volkswagen GTI, so my standards for the Soul were pretty high. The exterior styling is great, only complaint being the fake fender vents. The interior is attractive, roomy, and extremely well screwed together, but the materials are hard and cheap plastic. Handles well, but straight line acceleration is just acceptable. Not spirited but it keeps up with traffic well enough. The thermostat got stuck open at 700 miles, tripping the check engine light. Car was fixed same-day under warranty, which is all I could ask. Fun to drive despite lack of power.

  • 500 miles and DEAD NEW CAR - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

I bought a KIA Soul on 7/27/09. I had it about a week. At 11:00pm on 8/02/09 with less than 500 miles on it it had to be towed to the dealership with an engine light and oil warning light. The motor knocked and it was apparent it was holding low oil pressure. A total internal failure and yes - the dipstick said it was full of oil. Ive asked for a new vehicle and not a repair. Im getting grief and expect this thing to be a series of problems now the vehicle engine is screwed as no dealership Ive seen has the ability to put a motor back in and get it to factory specifications. Its junk that does not live up to the mileage claims as well. Look for something else.

  • Big enough for the Big Guys - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

When I first saw the Soul, i loved the appearance of the vehicle, but i was also concerned as i fail to fit in most Kias and i assumed this would be the case again. I test drove one and found that there was plenty of space for a big guy who loves being a big guy...as a 64" 415 lb ex-linebacker, fitment is a challenge for most cars, but since i drive over 20000 miles a year economy is a must. So far gas mileage is good at 28 mpg, considering i set my cruise on 72mph with the windows down and the sunroof open. This is my third Kia and the engines are always very tight for the first 12000 miles, after that they loosen up and the gas mileage gets even better. its a great little car.

  • Fun to Own - 2010 Kia Soul

This is my first "foreign car"; Ive been waiting three years for Chevrolet or someone to make a fun car that I wanted to buy and they didnt build one so when I saw the Soul I decided to buy. I have the molten sport with 18" wheels and I really like it. I get as many comments on the Soul as I get when I drive my Mustang Convertable. It is roomy and comfortable. Really like the Bluetooth and steering wheel controls. Ive had it about a month and havent filled the tank yet so cant comment on the fuel economy. I really like this car in every way and recommend it without reservation.

We bough a 7 year old 100K and are truly surprised: great interior space, compared to smallsuv like Ford Edge .

  • Weathered the Snowmageddon of 2010 - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

I waited for a really good snow driving experience before I reviewed. Our recent "Snowmageddon of 2010" provided more than ample testing and my molten red Soul+ made it every place I decided to go once I dug out of my driveway through 24+ inches. Some areas were like the wild, wild West and we plowed right through. I never skidded going behind several SUVs going sideways in front of me. I have stock tires but years of experience.
