This Year's Model Updates:

The 2010 Kia Soul is an all-new four-door hatchback/wagon with avant-garde styling and many customizable features.

Pros:
  • Loads of available features, highly customizable, user-friendly controls, ample passenger space, surprisingly fun to drive, low price, long warranty.
Cons:
  • Limited cargo room versus competitors, noisy and busy highway ride, unrefined manual transmission, silly trim level names.

Initially, was overwhelmed by style and appearance at first thinking this vehicle had everything I wanted, 18" rims, two tone interior, great audio, and even pretty good MPG. Was hoping it would turn my nightmarish 100 mile commute into something fun. Now, I dislike the Soul quite a bit. Its too big for me, 18" are too wide for superior snow, wet, and mud traction, ride too rough, road noise too loud, MPG is not up to par, seats are uncomfortable, the interior is cheaply made, not enough power, 4 speed auto transmission is horrible, and even the dealership was shady.

  • Not so happy Kia owner - 2010 Kia Soul

Purchased the Soul after getting info about high gas mileage - but never got over 25 mpg at any time which was a huge disappointment. My Ford which was 9 years old gave 28 mpg and I never intended to give up mpg. The road noise is heavy - although I paid extra for some kind of noise reduction something. Also been in the dealership a few times for an unknown noise - if I park with hand brakes up, when I am reversing, I get a knocking sound. No one at the dealership could tell me anything about the noise - except to not use the hand brakes. I seriously thought the car had hand brakes so it could be used - my mistake. The car is cute and all but Kia again- I really dont think so.

This car rides like an empty gravel truck!!! Roughest ride Ive ever had - - totally unexpected and unacceptable!!! I even lowered the tire pressure to see if I could soften the ride --no appreciable differance. Ill be trying to palm it off as soon as I can find a sucker to buy it. It is loud, thirsty, and uncomfortable. Ive put 4xxx miles on it in the first month, so I have enough seat time to make an accurate evaluation. Lots of hard surfaces in interior - nothing is padded or even a little soft. When the seat belt retracts, it mars the hard plastic door panel. Biggest mistake Ive ever made in buying a vehicle. Test drive over rough road before buying!!!

  • looks cool but build quality? - 2010 Kia Soul

Bought this car because of price and features. Both look great on paper. After less than 1000 miles of ownership, the rear suspension started rattling. The dealer took the car for one week of "evaluation and repair" and after replacement of a rear strut gave back the car still rattling with an explanation that "it is a characteristic of this vehicle". Not very reassuring assessment of build quality if the suspension with less than 1000 miles of use is rattling like a New York City cab!!

  • NOISE - 2010 Kia Soul

OK little car for work. I cannot stand the interior wind noise. I am preparing for a fight w/ the service dept over this. My 03 diesel V8 is quieter than this car. I should of stuck to my original plan to purchase a used Mini instead. $16000 regret!

We bought this car for the fuel efficiency and we got a good trade in as well. Got the base model but made them put in after market cruise control with the purchase. The cruise control looks and behaves cheaply. The dealership was shady and Im not sure they arent screwing us. It seems that after the last time i took the car in for its scheduled check-up some warning lights came on. Even after they did a diagnostic! Im going to get the equipment to run diagnostics myself. The check engine light comes on for a loose gas cap.

  • 146 miles and already in the shop - 2010 Kia Soul

I bought the Soul on June 23 after researching many car options. I choose the Soul based on the warranty and owner reviews. When I bought the car it had 20 miles on it. I drove it for 3 days and then the check engine light came on. It has been in the shop over 24 hours and they have no idea what is wrong other than the p0301 cyl. 1 misfire code. When I called the dealer who sold me the car about the fact that I had the car for 3 days and it was in the shop their response was "These are new cars so we dont work on them much so when they break down it takes us longer to fix." Really? After 3 days your cars breakdown?

  • Poor fuel Consumption - 2010 Kia Soul
    By -

Overall I like the car but Im very disappointed with the poor fuel consumption. After doing lots of research I was under the impression that I should get about 30 mpg on the hwy, which is were I do most of my driving, even the dealer told me 30+ mpg. Im lucky if I get 25 mpg, I would have never bought this car knowing this because I was looking for something with good fuel economy. Kia needs to step up and do something about the poor fuel economy on this car..

  • Not so happy with that - 2010 Kia Soul

Blinker does not turn off after turning, overdrive & interior lights not connected when purchased, bumper clips broken so bumper is falling off, brakes locked up and burned out brakes. Dealership does not know how to balance tires and claimed I was in accident that is why clips broke, but no front end damage. Like some features, but others not so much. Gas mileage not what they claimed either.

  • You get what you pay for - 2010 Kia Soul

Fun for the price, drives like what it is, a fancified econobox. Good sound system, nifty bluetooth. Seats not very comfy for short or tall drivers in our family. The fancy stereo distracts you from the VERY plain and basic everything else.
