The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

- Engine needs more power, subpar fuel economy, seat upholstery could stand improvement.

Just purchased - 2003 Kia Sorento
By Kwhite138 - November 20 - 2:00 amI just purchased my Sorento yesterday, so mileage, build quality, etc., cant be judged. However, I traded my 2000 Kia Sportage in for the Sorento (pur. 10/99). I never had any problems, so I think the quality will be good.

I have been looking for a 4X4 for over a year now, and could not find one that would fit my 6 2" frame for the money we could spend. Well this it!!!! Go test drive one, and if you are not serious about getting a vehicle this will make you think twice.

By Gilmour - November 9 - 10:00 amI bought my sorento 2 weeks ago..I cannot believe how good this vehicle feels,looks and rides for the money..I owned a Suzuki Grand Vitara but the KIA is better by far..I was a bit skeptical before buying it because of the KIA brand but the warranty is amazing and the vehicle feels extremely good in terms of quality..I would definitely recommend it for anybody looking a luxurious and capable off-roader and is not just a brand-seeker.

By sorento2012 - October 3 - 11:00 pmMinor problems like horn, clock not working. Had to replace the U-joint front and back. Everything else is fine and working. Minor leak in sunroof, was adjusted. Paint on side mirrors came off and the same for the tail hatch. Made out of plastic.

Kia?? they only make cheap cars dont they?? cheap is right the Sorento is $10,000 cheaper than its nearest rival. Sorentos are only available in Australia with every option except leather & sunroof which I opted for. Love the looks, ride, warranty & value for money.

By justme - May 21 - 10:00 amNarrowed search to Mazda Tribute, Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, KIA Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe. After driving, narrowed to 2 SUVs. Mazda/Ford rode rough and bad wind/road noise, also couple thousand $ more than rest. After drive Santa Fe and Sorento are best. Wouldnt you know? The choices basically from same company. After looking closely you see they shared some of same components. But, clincher was Santa Fe almost $4000 less than Sorento and that made diffeerence to us this time. However, both great and have reasons for choosing one over other. Bigger engine/flat-folding seats not worth extra 4 Gs so Santa Fe won.
