The Sorento is an all-new SUV from Kia. Larger and more powerful than the pint-size Sportage (which is expected to return for 2004 after a 2003 hiatus, by the way), the Sorento straddles the emerging middle ground between small SUVs and midsize SUVs. And it does so while offering interested buyers true off-road ability. Key competitors are the Ford Escape, the Honda CR-V, the Jeep Liberty, the Nissan Xterra and the Toyota Highlander.

Garbage - 2003 Kia Sorento
By Joe - March 10 - 8:53 pmI own a 2003 Kia sorento and it is garbage. I cant count how many times I have had to replace a headlamp. The clock resets constantly on its own. I have blown fuses galore. Changing the rotors is impossible unless you own or can get your hands on a impact wrench. And most of all, their Service dept. has been horrible, rude and deceiving. Dont waste you money. I get 17mpg gallon highway at 65mph if I am lucky. And yes, I have completed all their recommended, bogus service schedules. I hate it. Hope I save somebody the headache of owning a pile of junk like this. 100,000 mile warranty is a joke. Be careful

By Joan & Loren - February 7 - 2:00 amAfter renting a Sorento while on vacation, my husband and I feel in love with it! I have always had Explorers and my husband has a Tahoe. We felt that the ride and handling of the Kia surpassed that of both of our other vehicles, especially my Explorer. Driving through the mountains with another couple, the four of us could not believe how snappy the engine was and how well the vehicle handled the curves. Our friends in the back seat were so comfortable after riding there all day and one has back problems! Also, we noticed that the four of us could easily converse due to the quiet ride. We love SUVs and this is by far the best yet!

By Sold on Sorento! - January 27 - 10:00 amThis is one great SUV! I traded my Xterra in on one, and when my wife drove it, she decided to trade her Lexus to! Most everyone here has mentioned gas mileage. My Xterra only got 15, and the Lexus was 19. The Sorento is averaging 16 around town. Another review by "Kia 4 Me" summed it up nicely. The better gas milage of the Lexus "saved" us $282 a year over the Sorento (gas here averages $1.91). But at that rate it would take just under 50 years to make up the difference! Thanks for the perspective Kia 4 Me!!!!

By sar34 - January 21 - 2:00 amBefore buying I tested the Nissan Pathfinder and Murano, the Infinity QX4, and Exolorer. The Sorento had the best ride, although the Murano was close. But a comparably equiped Murano is $7K more.

By Kia 4 Me - January 5 - 10:00 amAs promised, Im back reviewing the Sorento after the 15000 mile mark, and Im happy to report that the vehicle has performed flawlessly for the past year. Gas milage is holding at 19 overall (see previous post), and at that level, the cost savings averages out to $1100.00 per year over a Highlander and $1300.00 over a Lexus. By the way, I use those two as comparisons as they are the only vehicle close to the class that the Sorento truly competes in. Kia definately has a winner here, and Ill be back at the 30k mark to let you all know how things are going then!

Still Lovin it! - 2003 Kia Sorento
By Rozebud - November 22 - 10:00 amIve had my Kia for a year and a half now and I still love it! I wrote my first review in March of 03 and never imagined Id still feel the same farther down the road. It still feels like a new car. The steering and transmission is still tight and nothing has broken or worn out. The airbag light did come on recently and Im taking it in to get it fixed. Probably just a sensor gone bad? Im short and this vehicle fits me perfectly. My husband has a GMC Envoy, a great car too, but I hate driving it because of its size. It is a little hard to get in and out of, especially for my seven year old. I think I might buy the available running boards.
