This Year's Model Updates:

Minor upgrades are in store for the Sedona in its second year on the market. On the outside, buyers will find new taillights, and in the cabin, you'll note a new audio faceplate and a remote fuel-door release. The LX model gets a CD player, while the EX now comes with two keyless remotes, as well as additional leather on the armrests and lower portions of the seats. A trailer hitch is now available for all Sedonas.

Pros:
  • Excellent value, lots of cupholders and storage bins, solid build quality, good crash test scores, lengthy warranty coverage.
Cons:
  • Hefty curb weight, below-average gas mileage, missing a few key minivan features, potentially expensive to repair in minor collisions.

I have a 02 Sedona EX, purchased 7/28/02 . I like many qualities about the vehicle but feel, that Kias quality control is non-existent. I have spent nearly as many days in the shop as in the driveway. Lumbar seat switch stuck on and depleted the battery, requiring using roadside assistance. Then power steering pump, A/C partial replacement, replacement of entire left rear trim panel, transmission irregularity and lastly, rust on the tailgate requiring repainting and 3 day tie up.(I live in Florida). Not a good experience at all. The mileage is horrific (which I knew when I bought it). Should have at least 16" wheels,

Love it....runs great responds wonderfully. We bought it because of the standard package items that were additional on most all the other vans and love it because of the things that are not standard.

Owned since September 2003 and have put 42,000 miles on it. The only time its been back to the dealership is for the 2 recalls. We dont baby our Sedona either. We regularly take trips of 400 miles (each way) towing a 2500 lb trailer, with a cargo carrier mounted to the roof rack. Its a little sluggish going up mountain passes fully loaded and towing, but that is to be expected. Swapped oil in engine and tranny to full synthetic after 15,000 miles and picked up 3-5 mpg on the highway. This van has never failed us, even in -30 degree weather. The only thing I dislike is that it has too much low end power when driving on ice, even with studded tires. Very easy to spin the tires on ice!

After the haggling, we paid $17500 after rebate with the optional abs and roof rack. How can you go wrong. Add in the warranty and its a no brainer. My wife and I laugh at the Oddessys on the road. We paid $6,000 + less for a very comparable vehicle. The Kia was as good or better than the competition. What some people will pay just have the Honda name, what a pity.

I really enjoy my Kia Sedona, its fun to drive and handles well. The fuel economy is fairly poor, however, the inexpensive price of the vehicle makes up for this fact.

MY 2002 KIA SEDONA PLEASES ME NO END,AS I PLAN TO KEEP IT A LONG TIME THE DEPRECIATION IS OF NO VALUE. ITS WELL CONSTRUCTED AS PROVEN BY ITS WEIGHT 4709 LBS. IVE HAD IT FOR A YEAR AND AM WELL PLEASED WITH ITS QUALITIES AND HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH IT,BOTH THE DEALER AND MECHANICLY.IT HAS ALL THE OPTIONS OF THE OTHER VANS BUT IS THOUSANDS* CHEEPER.

We have owned our Sedona for 1.5 years and came very close to the Honda Odyssey but in the end went with what would suit our budget best. The van has been reliable and easily fits adults and carseats without crowding. We have had to use the warranty a few times and had to shop for a dealership/service dept who would accomodate the repairs without hassle. If you have time for the occassional repair of a power seat or heater fan then it is well worth the extra effort for the extra savings.

  • So far so good - 2003 Kia Sedona

I have only had this van since May. So far its good. I am very unhappy with the gas mileage. I love the rest!!! It is our first minivan so I might not be helpful. I love it though. I love driving it. It is so easy to get a 3 yr. old and newborn in. I now have plenty of room for a double stroller after having a Kia Spectra previously.
