This Year's Model Updates:

Jeep's Patriot compact crossover SUV enters its second year with a handful of minor changes, including standard air-conditioning, AutoStick manual shifting added to the continuously variable transmission (CVT), reshuffled package content and a few chrome bits to dress up the interior. Limited models can also be equipped with an optional navigation system.

Pros:
  • Affordable pricing, lots of headroom, Jeep styling, above-average off-road ability.
Cons:
  • Performance-robbing CVT, some mediocre interior materials, minimal cargo capacity.

  • Loving it still.... 5 years in - 2008 Jeep Patriot

Bought a 2008 Jeep Patriot in August 2008. It was a daily rental return that just under 20,000 km on it. Almost 5 years later and Ive had next to no problems with this vehicle besides wear parts. I got the extended warranty to 5 years / 100,000 km and the only warranty work that I needed was the fuel evap cannister that was hanging off (I probably ran over something) and there was minor work needed to be back end (sway bars and such) that was causing crunching noises when I went over bumps. Less than $600 warranty work in 5 years. I replaced the front brakes at 60 K and the back brakes (drums and all) at 95 K. 4 new tires at 60 K and Ill 4 new ones at 110K

I bought my Jeep used and I fell in love with it right away. The body style is great and the interior is roomy enough for my 6ft 3in frame.

I owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee for 11 years and wanted another Jeep. Decided to try a bare bones model instead and couldnt be happier. Great car with all the reliability I have come to count on with a Jeep. Its tight handling and good fuel economy have made driving it a real pleasure. I love the "Old School" look of the front of the car. I affectionately refer to it as my " Jeep Light" all the things I have come to love about the Jeep brand, at a lower price tag.

I enjoy driving my Patriot but the fuel economy is not exactly what the sticker promises. I drive 120 miles a day to and from work, all highway. My average MPG is 23, not the 27 or better. The armrest that the driver and passenger are to share could be larger. Overall, I like my Patriot. It reminds me of the Cherokee, just smaller. I will add my children ages 6 and 9 commonly refer to our new car as a "box on wheels". Unfortunately its too early to tell what problems will be in our future. Im hopeful that it will not follow the pattern of the last 3 Chrysler products I have purchased which at 80,000 miles needed a new transmissions. Overall I would recommend the Patriot. Happy Buying!!

  • Transmission - 2008 Jeep Patriot

At 7500 miles vehicle began grinding going into 5th gear and occasionally popping out of gear. TSB states this is a known problem with synchronizers. Took to dealer and they ended up replacing transmission. Besides this very happy with vehicle. MPG is 31-32 on highway 27 around town. Ugly rims, I plan to replace when I need tires with aftermarket. Interior is cheap plastic that scratches easily but I knew this before buying. I got a nice 4wd SUV with 4WD and upgraded sound system and trailer prep package and engine block heater and 26E group for under 18k out the door so I am still happy with my purchase.

  • Reliable...thats it - 2008 Jeep Patriot

If your looking for a car with no power and no flash than here ya go. I have the bare bones model because of the price, but wish I would have spent the couple K more for 4WD and added features. The car would be a great commuter and thats it. Far from trail rated (its a Dodge Caliber with a Jeep logo stamped on it).

I got my used 08 Patriot W/48k back in early Sep.09. For the first 3 months I did not have any problems with it and overall is nice to drive and gets good mpg. Then one day I was driving and a light came on and my jeep was slowing down and lost a lot of its power. So I looked it up and it was the (ETC)electronic throttle control. I kept having problems with it so i brought it in and found out that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. From my understanding this is something that a few newer jeeps have been having some problems with. overall I am happy with my Patriot but I,m uncomfortable with the ETC cause the mechanics said w/ ECT the accelerator has a good chance of sticking

We bought this new back in June 08 (barebones model) due to needing a new car and money being kinda tight. Ours has no frills except the "pleather" seats. Mostly the wife drives it/took it from me.. LOL.. As she likes the view and having a slightly higher view of the road. Its our first "new" vehicle ever and the lifetime powertrain warranty sold us as did the chassis Jeep look. Ours has the 2.0 and CVT and although its a bit slow its just fine for commuting and all the errands we run. We get 27-30 mpg 50/50 driving. We could not be happier with our purchase to be quite honest. Its very comfortable and has all the room we need, the mp3 stereo is a Nice touch and so is the great mileage.

The 2.4L 4 cyl. is a nice motor if underpowered. I am 6 foot 5 inches tall and fit very nicely in my Patriot with the height adjustable seat. While the wind noise is disturbing, the car does travel well and get pretty good fuel mileage for an AWD car. Overall on of the most entertaining cars I have owned.

This is the best bang for your buck in its class. Pure Jeep, no frills. Fun factor way up there. I bought 2.
